Chapter 45: The Gathering of Geniuses
After finishing his announcements, the owner of the booming voice, a fierce-looking man with a mane as a haircut, sprang up like a broken coil. The ground around him spiderwebbed for thousands of meters as he broke the sound barrier to reach one of the highest points of the gorge from the depths.
Jin, who was blending in with the swathes of youngsters, narrowed his eyes.
’Strong...’
Using enhanced |Spiritual Sight|, he observed the lion-maned man now standing alongside several high-ranking Academy Teachers.
A series of illusory words revealed themselves only to Jin—a feature that he had augmented into the Skill himself.
"Target’s Cultivation: Grandmaster Mage (2nd Circle)"
’Equivalent to the 3rd Rank, somewhere between the 3rd and 4th Levels,’ Jin stated, realizing that this lion-maned man was a league above the other Academy Staff here. He was even stronger than the top-tier bodyguards that his father had arranged for him for this trip.
Since the very day he came out of the womb, some distant relatives and those yearning for the throne had targeted Jin. As the sole legitimate heir to the throne, he was the only thing standing in their way of succeeding the Moonshire Family’s right to succession.
And though the King, his father, knew of this unavoidable danger to his life, there was only so much protection he could assign to him.
Many times, assassins slipped through the net of security around Jin. The snakes vying for the throne often went all out, even inviting Grandmaster Mages to snuff out his life. However, by then, their assassination attempts had already been thwarted dozens of times, with several years having passed.
If Jin was already equal in strength to an Early Rank 3 Evolver six and a half years ago when he initially restored his cultivation, just how powerful would he be now?
It was sufficient to say that those Grandmaster Mages never returned from their missions.
Even now, the main conspirators behind the assassination attempts were puzzled as to what had happened to all the assassins they sent out. None of it made any sense; it was as if the young prince had a halo of good luck around his head, keeping him from harm.
Still, King Richard and his wife didn’t know this, so they had bodyguards in the Master Mage Realm secretly protecting him at all times.
Even during this big day, when his Elemental Affinities would be tested alongside millions of others, they were there. Ever-present. Ever-watchful.
Just then, whisperings echoed:
"Is that who I think it is!?"
"It has to be!"
"Eira, the Little Empress of Eternal Winter!"
Jin perked his ears at the clamoring of many, all of whom were watching fervently as a pretty young woman aged thirteen or fourteen took her turn on one of the Magic Affinity Balls. However, from how everyone was talking about her, it was clear that she had already uncovered her talents and even made a name for herself with them before this point in time.
’4th Circle Mage,’ Jin mused. ’I believe that’s exceptional for someone who has only been cultivating for a few years. Either way, she’ll definitely become a disciple of the Academy, as she’s one of the most promising youths here.’
He was only interested to see what her Affinities would end up being.
Luckily, he didn’t have to wait very long, as she soon placed her hand on a large tranquil orb. A brilliant array of colors clashed thereafter, exuding a vibrant brilliance far more prominent than any youth tested thus far.
Almost all the Academy Staff members had their eyes instantly fall on Eira.
"Ho?" The Academy Dean raised a brow. "This is rare. Rare indeed."
"That’s an understatement, Dean Lionheart! I mean, just wow! This only spells good things for our Academy!" One of the high-ranking Teachers was practically falling over in amazement.
All the other Teachers nodded their heads in agreement.
A genius at the level of Eira was rare within the Moon God Kingdom.
If given enough time to grow, she could possibly even touch upon the Grandmaster Mage Realm. For the Academy, this would mean an additional indispensable asset in the same tier as the Dean.
Meanwhile, down in the canyon gorge, a few lines of words magically appeared on the Affinity Ball that Eira had touched. What those words read served as a shocking eye-opener for many of those present.
"Primary Elemental Affinity(s): Ice (Highest), Air (Highest), Water (Highest)"
"Secondary Elemental Affinity(s): Glacier (Highest), Tundra (Highest), Frostbite (Highest), Sub-Zero (Highest), Cyclone (Highest), Tornado (Highest), Tsunami (High)...."
The crowd was gobsmacked.
"T-This... 1, 2, 3, j-just how many Secondary Elements does she possess a High Affinity for!? And a Triple Highest Affinity for Primary Elements?? What is this blasphemy!??"
No one could believe what they were seeing. Only those high-ranking Teachers above, who had determined her Elemental Affinities the moment she touched the Tester, remained unaffected seeing Eira’s results. fre.eweb novel\.c om
"...."
Eira didn’t have a change in expression. Her long eyelashes merely fluttered for a second before she turned around and walked back toward the group of youths.
Jin stared unblinkingly in her direction.
’From the way everyone is reacting, that girl is even more of a genius than I originally anticipated.’
For him, this was a good thing to know.
Now he knew how much he needed to hold back to benefit just enough not to acquire the attention of the 42 gods.
Nevertheless, after Eira retreated into the sea of people fawning over her, a different girl stole the limelight. This one received a peculiar look from Jin, as she was not an... unfamiliar face.
"It’s Merida! Brave! The Vermillion Princess!!" someone shouted, his excitement through the roof.
"I can’t believe I’m able to see actual royalty in person! My luck is insane!"
"Please pinch me; I have to know if I’m dreaming or not!!"
In recent years, Merida, the only other child of Queen Isabella, had made quite a name for herself. Known for her bravery and beauty, she had protected many a fisherman from the terrors that lurked in the ocean. And as she continued using her highly proficient Water Elemental Skills to cull these Sea Monsters, a fanbase naturally built up.
Countless citizens of the Moon God Kingdom knew of her name and feats.
"Just last week, at the tender age of fifteen, Vermillion Princess Merida slew a 100-foot-large Kraken that wanted to flatten the Coastal Village of Oceanus!"
"So amazing!"
’Little Merida?’ Jin thought to himself, wondering what sort of Affinities the famed genius of their family had.
The moment Princess Merida approached the Affinity Ball closest to her, one could sense the aura of oppression emanating off of her. Any other person might assume this oppression to be something natural, but Jin knew better.
