Chapter 912: Chapter 60 Punishment Rally_2
Wang Bo lay on the ground, operating the Howling Reaper, ceaselessly scattering a barrage that immediately caused a swarm of insects some ten meters away to cry out and collapse in pieces, shattered by the impact.
Seizing the opportunity, Shen Qingshuang began practicing her shooting, launching Thunderball after Thunderball, always hitting an insect.
The Conquerors took out ammunition and placed it within easy reach of the soldiers. As for the female newbies, they were not idle either. To acclimatize them to the killing, they all had to stand behind the lines, firing their weapons even if they missed.
In less than twenty seconds, the insects that poured from the Teleportation Gate had filled the Hotel front on Long Street to the brim, a massive, densely packed bunch, looking utterly disgusting.
These were Yak Beetles of the leaf-armored class, with hard shells and thick skin. Seeing them charge within eight meters, Dantai grabbed a loudspeaker and bellowed.
"Fall back from the line, Tanks take over the defense, carpet bombing the Beetles!"
Upon hearing the command, the newbies began to retreat immediately, some soldier wanted to kill a few more but was pulled back by the sleeve by Platoon Leader Gao.
Boom, two Leopard Tanks positioned at the Main Entrance, having aimed at the Teleportation Gate in advance, fired. Enormous incendiary bullets shot out, plowing a trench through the swarm of insects. Any bug brushed by them was scorched, rolled over, and then with a loud bang, slammed into the Teleportation Gate.
Six vehicle-mounted machine guns, changed to 12.7mm caliber, also began to show their power, sweeping out a barrage.
Tang Zheng slammed down the launch button, the Beetle’s Bullet Nest opened, and with a hissing sound, rocket shells with trailing flames howled out, hitting right in front of the Teleportation Gate amidst the dense explosion sounds, the whole ground was plowed over once.
The soldiers were not merely standing around; they opened fire, killing any insect within range.
"Take down the Teleportation Gate," Dantai commanded, standing atop his Beetle, wielding a Thunderstorm gun with great composure, displaying a general’s demeanor.
The two Tanks unleashed their might, but the firepower was still not enough. The Warhammer team lacked the heavy weapons needed for assaults.
"Let’s just activate our abilities and take it down in one second," Ruan Feifei grew impatient, watching endless swarms of insects spewing from the Teleportation Gate, a blue electric arc dancing between her fingers, ready to use a range-wide area kill to end them.
"No need, we still have twelve hours. Everyone should conserve their Life Energy for emergencies. Besides, with only one gate, it’s a good chance for everyone to practice," Dantai refused, as after the initial panic, the newbies had finally calmed down, even the women were capable of fighting now.
"The kind that can fly and self-destruct haven’t shown up yet," Lu Fan sat atop a Hummer, counting off the types of insects she had seen on her fingers, "Maybe there’s Insect-Humans too. By the way, should we plan an escape route in advance, set traps?"
"Definitely," Dantai nodded, "I was planning to check the enemy types before arranging that. Qin Yan, this task is yours."
"No problem, Jing Xiang, Yang Wei, Li Guaizi, come with me," Qin Yan was reliable, which was why Dantai entrusted these tasks to her.
"Zuo Yi, you go too," Tang Zheng called out to Zuo Yi, having him assist Qin Yan.
"Will the punishment squad change?" Pang Meiqin had other worries, "I don’t think the bugs will be stupid enough to attack only from the front."
"Certainly, so we need to use this time to find and fix any weaknesses, perfecting our tactics," Dantai patiently addressed every issue, providing answers that eased the minds of the newbies.
Tang Zheng took out the First Bow of East Sea Road and swept out two rounds of Light Spot Arrow Rain before stopping, leaving the smaller skirmish to the newbies.
After ten minutes, the Teleportation Gate was destroyed, the swarm of insects vanished, and a brief respite arrived.
"Please make an effort to perform well; those who excel will be rewarded with Level A weapons," Dantai had Yao Feng distribute food while using supplies as an incentive, "For the few who stand out, we’ll give them seeds to activate their abilities."
The soldiers were excited, filled with a boiling will to fight.
The night was peaceful, the cry of crickets even audible, but the newbies had no time to enjoy this tranquility, all anxiously awaiting the next wave of insects.
Dantai told the newbies to sleep, but it was clear their mental toughness wasn’t up to par. Even someone as carefree as Wang Bo couldn’t fall asleep and had no choice but to chat with his combat mates.
Dragging on like this was a huge mental strain, better to have a good fight. Just as everyone was getting impatient, wanting to take a brief nap, the second wave of attack began without warning.
Four Teleportation Gates appeared on Long Street, spewing out insects. Using the Yak Beetles as a meat shield vanguard followed by small acid-spitting bugs, the sky was filled with Phosphorus-winged Flying Insects, dense enough to cover the moonlight. That wasn’t all; a huge Overlord Beetle emerged from the last Teleportation Gate, and then another crawled out.
Without waiting for Dantai’s reminder, the Conquerors unleashed their greatest firepower, having witnessed the might of the Overlord Beetles, no one dared to take them lightly, but they were still half a step slow.
"Dodge!" As Dantai shouted, bullets struck near the Overlord Beetles, but a shield of air immediately intercepted them. Their mouths gathered energy, shooting out light beams that cut into the Hotel entrance, carving a deep trench as the walls began to crumble.
The newbies screamed, scrambling to evade, while the Conquerors released their most powerful firepower in the shortest possible time.
Ruan Feifei’s chain lightning slashed through the black night, dazzling and resplendent. With a loud crash, it struck one of the Teleportation Gates and continued assaulting, destroying it within a dozen seconds.
