Chapter 909: Chapter 58 Absolute Advantage
"The remaining three are definitely trash," thinking of how his team had taken out a few key members of the Wanderers team, Huangfu Xiong felt reassured. The three who had left were nothing but Crawlers, which could be ignored. So now, the situation was that ultimately, two Chinese teams would compete for the title of the Fearless.
"Hey, Captain Xu Changtai, you’re not dead yet, but it looks like you’re in a tough spot, have all the newbies died? Do you want to hitch a ride?" Dantai signaled for Pang Meiqin to stop the car, then opened the door and jumped out.
Dantai was also observing Xu Changtai. He had certainly received the new intelligence from Blue Trojan. Seeing this smiling Fatty appearing fearlessly by his side, he estimated that Fatty had achieved a victory, and perhaps even took out the most valuable Fleischer.
"No matter what, we need to stabilize them with our momentum in negotiation or else we may have an infight," Tang Zheng, noticing Dantai’s calmly arrogant expression and negotiating with the others, let out a quiet sigh of relief. His gaze then passed through the car window, scanning over Xu Changtai’s body. The guy was seriously injured, and Huangfu Xiong wasn’t in much better condition either; clearly, they had been through a tough fight. Their hurried appearance was probably because their side had killed Landeck, exceeding his expectations, and he wanted to probe the situation.
"Hehe, you guys are quite lucky, hardly reducing in number. Then I’ll be blunt." Xu Changtai’s grim expression suddenly faded as he burst into laughter, looking like a Maitreya Buddha, showing no sign of hostility.
"Then come on up," Dantai tilted his head. "The last car."
"Thank you!" Xu Changtai held his fists in thanks, gesturing amiably toward everyone.
"Wait a minute," Li Xinlan stepped forward at Qin Yan’s signal, "Hey, Dantai, why carry them? Tang Zheng needs peace and quiet to recover!"
Qin Yan, Ruan Feifei, Bai Guo, Xu Liangmao, as well as Yu Manli, Xu Biyun, and the other lightly injured got out of the car, with unfriendly expressions staring at Xu Changtai.
As the car doors slammed shut, Xu Changtai’s heart skipped a beat and he began to roar inside. How could there be so many Conquerors; how did they win? Weren’t they supposed to be both heavily injured?
"By the way, where is your team captain?" Xu Changtai, always cautious, now beat a retreat but not seeing Tang Zheng, he couldn’t set his mind at ease, "He isn’t dead, is he?"
"You’re the one who’s dead!" Lu Fan jumped out, wielding a Vampire Curved Knife fiercely against the Hummer’s armor, staring fiercely at him, "What? Fancy a one-on-one challenge?"
The gaze of Xu Changtai and Huangfu Xiong instantly sharpened at the sight of the SS-Class Weapon, which was very eye-catching.
"I have to say, your command skills are terrible, only leaving Huangfu Xiong from your team members. Tsk tsk, I really feel sad for those newbies who followed you," Lu Fan continued to heckle, provoking Xu Changtai.
"So, you killed Fleischer? Must have been a big harvest, huh?" Dantai asked casually, but he was actually targeting Xu Changtai’s cautious nature. This would make the captain think he had already earned enough and should back off.
Tang Zheng knew that if he spoke up, he might change Xu Changtai’s mind, so he deliberately flashed his snake-like eyes at him, then concealed them again.
"Hehe, fortunately won a game, I was actually hoping to move together with everyone for mutual support. But it seems you all don’t welcome me, so let’s part ways here," Xu Changtai smiled and saluted with a fist, stepping aside from the highway, "I wish you all good luck."
"That’s quite coincidental since Landeck just died too!" Dantai returned the salute with robust spirit, "Get on the car, let’s depart."
"We’re just going to let it go?" Watching the fleet of eight Hummers speed away, Huangfu Xiong felt a sense of reluctance, "They must have captured a wealth of spoils."
"That’s inevitable. But we can’t handle it; that team captain is not easy to deal with," Xu Changtai thought of Tang Zheng’s emotionless eyes and felt a chill down his spine. Not being able to read one’s opponent was too awful, "Never mind, once I recover from my injuries, it will be easy to take care of him, right?"
Xu Changtai was too cautious and did not want to take the risk.
"During this time, I can easily capture a captive and figure out their process of killing Landeck as well as everyone’s abilities, defeat them one by one, which is better than facing them head-on, right?" Xu Changtai, cunning and shrewd, although not weak, always preferred deceitful tactics. He said this to intimidate Huangfu Xiong, preventing him from having other cunning ideas.
"Dantai, distribute the unborn Bug Eggs first, it’s almost noon," Tang Zheng leaned against the rear of the car, reminding him.
"Don’t worry, I’ll handle everything," Dantai noted the route, and ten minutes later, everyone saw Chen Hong’s battered corpse quietly lying on the abandoned highway.
Qin Yan sighed, helping Tang Zheng out of the car, with Lu Fan quickly following to serve as his support.
"Cheng Cheng is also dead!" Lu Fan cried, knowing that this day was inevitable, but not leaving even a complete corpse behind was very distressing to her.
Tang Zheng’s gaze swept over the abandoned district and then looked up at the sky, which was azure and clear, as if even the breeze carried the laughter of the girls.
"Are you going to resurrect them?" Dantai approached Tang Zheng; he didn’t hurry him to move on, as Bai Guo and others were distributing the Bug Eggs.
"Resurrect them for what? To die again?" Tang Zheng smiled bitterly. In a certain sense, this was also a release for Chen Hong and Cheng Cheng since with their caliber, it was impossible for them to score ten thousand points and leave.
"As long as you understand," said Dantai, clapping Tang Zheng on the shoulder. "No need to be sentimental, there might be even more tragic experiences in store for us."
Listening to Dantai’s words, Tang Zheng scanned his team members. Everyone had dismounted from the Hummer, holding their guns at the ready while looking at him with concern.
"Haven’t you resolved to end this game? If you don’t mind, count me in!" Dantai extended his hand towards Tang Zheng.
"The honor is mine, just no regrets!" Tang Zheng clasped his hand, both men’s palms were equally long and powerful, as if wrapped in a shared conviction.
"Fanfan wants in too!" Lu Fan also added her hand, having long since made up her mind not to leave and to always be with her uncle.
"Hey, Tang Zheng, don’t forget about me. I may be just an old soldier, but hey, I’m still here!" Worried about Tang Zheng, Lin Weiguo had stepped down from the Hummer, but now seeing him alright, he smiled and teased him.
"Of course I didn’t forget. I remember your first awkward tumble at the Oasis Hotel when you were floored by zombies," Tang Zheng replied with a smile, easing the heavy atmosphere with his jest.
"Tang Zheng, how could I miss out on such a fun game!" Xu Biyun joined in, the usually brash gamer girl showing a rare delicate side to her emotions. She didn’t want Tang Zheng to worry, so she purposefully framed it as fun.
Bai Guo also raised his hand, then looked left and right, his face flushing red.
Qin Yan and Li Xinlan didn’t speak, but their concerned expressions spoke volumes. Pang Meiqin shrugged her shoulders nonchalantly; she realized that even if she survived and got out without Tang Zheng, life wouldn’t mean much anymore.
Xu Liangmao was a straightforward and honest man, usually reserved and not good at expressing his feelings, but that didn’t stop him from regarding Tang Zheng as a close friend. Since Tang Zheng had helped him so much, he also wanted to contribute.
"Once Bai Chuan is revived, my husband and I will repay your kindness," Ai Yixin firmly decided, despite knowing that this road was filled with death.
Ruan Feifei looked at Tang Zheng’s popularity within the team and felt a sudden pang of depression, regretting having had a fallout with him.
Yu Manli expressed solidarity and began to reflect on her own attitude.
"Alright, let’s find a place to hide and recuperate for now, and also distribute the spoils of war. This has been a big harvest indeed!" said Tang Zheng, moved. He took a deep breath to stop himself from crying, but his eyes moistened nonetheless.
Twenty minutes later, the Zhongzhou Warhammer team left the battlefield. After confirming there was no pursuit, they found temporary refuge in the lobby of a derelict hotel and held a spoils-sharing meeting.
"The deadline is up. Congratulations to the Warhammer team for completing the task to collect bug eggs before hatching. The punishment time is canceled!" At noon, the Blue Trojan made the announcement on time.
The newbies breathed a sigh of relief, but the Trojan’s next statement caused their hearts to jump to their throats.
"Latest battle report: Three survivors from the West Lake Longjing team, two Conquerors and one newbie; the Star team is wiped out; the Fleischer team is wiped out; the Warhammer team has 48 survivors left, which is more than the Trojan expected. As a reward, a 12-hour rest period is awarded, during which there will be no attacks from monsters."
"The game has been going on for three days, with a total of 147 deaths, leaving 51 survivors!"
"Current scores, Tang Zheng is the highest, Xu Changtai second, Dantai third, Qin Yan fourth, Huangfu Xiong fifth, Bai Guo sixth. Base people, please try harder."
Just moments ago, the three fleeing German flight attendants met with bugs, were torn apart, and ingested into their bellies, where in a few days, they would become excrement.
As the newbies heard this narrative, their faces turned pale. They were immediately overwhelmed by the death rate and then looked to Tang Zheng. Only then did they realize how lucky they were to have joined his team.
"Huh? There’s still a newbie in Xu Changtai’s team? Lucky indeed," teased Yu Manli, lightening the mood.
"That’s right, it’s Yang Wei. She’s in our group," Lu Fan pointed to a female university student squatting in the corner. "A scumbag like Xu Changtai would never care about the lives of newbies."
Heard by the Trojan announcement, Xu Changtai was infuriated, questioning his own competence. He was relieved that he hadn’t troubled Tang Zheng earlier, or else he might have been the one to fall.
"Coward!" cursed Huangfu Xiong silently, but then marveled once again at Tang Zheng’s strength. Even after Xu Changtai had killed Fleischer, he didn’t score as high as Tang Zheng, an indication that Tang Zheng’s overall quality was simply superior.
Outdoor stoves were lit, and the aroma of meat porridge wafted out, causing the newbies’ stomachs to rumble. Yet, their eyes were still fixed on the powerful equipment laid before them.
The captured space wristwatches had been unlocked, and all valuable spoils were taken out, waiting to be distributed. (To be continued.
