Chapter 782: Chapter 45: The Union’s Dependency

When Tang Zheng was heading to the Students’ Union stronghold, they were in a heated argument, making plans for the future. Although Li Han was morally bankrupt, he was adept at persuading others to his side. When he left, the team was on the verge of collapse.

Because some of the men had a crush on Song Huiqiao in high school, they elected her as the Group Leader. The women paid no mind, waiting to see her performance. However, the results were disastrous.

After all, Song Huiqiao was a woman. Merely having a pretty face and figure wasn’t enough; she needed to lead the team into battle. While she tried her best despite her fear, her teammates weren’t supportive. The Shadow Demon Warrior used the Bronze Cannon to blast them away.

Even if they had guns, the members of the Students’ Union couldn’t become warriors. If they fought individually, they might have fought with all they had. However, witnessing the gruesome death of their classmates made them hesitant.

"This can’t go on, we must establish a reward system. Those who contribute more should get the Soul shards first." Said Zhao Feng, trying to unite the team. But no one responded.

"It’s been several days, and we haven’t gotten a single shard. We’re doomed." Zhang Mei was crying softly in a corner, her hands hugged her knees. She was desperate and clueless.

"I say we split up. If no one wants to fight, we can’t possibly kill the Shadow Demon." Said Zhang Teng, the disapproval evident on his face.

"What do you mean by that? You suggesting only you have fought while we did nothing?" Liu Qian could not stand this accusation and mocked Zhang Teng.

"Come with me. I will protect you. If I get soul shards, I will give them to you." Zhang Teng did not waste his breath. He saw through their true nature and invited Song Huiqiao to leave with him.

Song Huiqiao hesitated, and all eyes were fixed on her instantly.

"Ha, it’s hilarious that you’ve forgotten your nickname—Coward. Who was it that wet his pants in front of the whole class during a field trip?" Liu Qian’s words triggered everyone’s memories. A few men laughed out loud. They resented Zhang Teng’s blatant attempts to win Song Huiqiao’s favor and decided to sabotage him.

"Huiqiao, come with me. I’ll stake my life to protect you." Zhang Teng ignored his old classmates, only looking at Song Huiqiao sincerely.

"Zhang Teng, don’t do this. Let’s figure out a solution together. There must be a way." Song Huiqiao didn’t want to make hasty decisions. When problems arise, she preferred to delay and wait for a turn of events.

"Bitch! Get lost!" Having seen the once deemed useless man, pursuing Song Huiqiao under public gaze infuriated Liu Qian. He started yelling furiously. In high school, he often bullied Zhang Teng which gave him a psychological advantage.

Zhang Teng remained silent and walked over to Liu Qian.

"What? You want to fight?" Liu Qian was about to teach Zhang Teng a lesson when a clenched fist hit him right in the chin.

Liu Qian staggered back a few steps, just as he stabilized, Zhang Teng attacked again. Enraged, Liu Qian began to fight back.

"Stop it." Song Huiqiao was almost in tears. The women were anxious and wanted to stop the fight but both men were so fierce that they were afraid of getting hurt.

"Somebody pull them apart." Liu Liu shouted. But before she could finish, her voice turned into a piercing scream. She saw a Shadow Demon Ninja descending from the ceiling, heading straight for Zhang Mei who was hiding in the corner.

The Shadow Demon Ninja always attacked singled out prey.

"Zhang Mei, dodge." Du Kang saw it too. He warned Zhang Mei loudly, picking up a submachine gun and shooting at the ninja. In the past, Du Kang was not attracted to the popular beauty, Song Huiqiao, but Zhang Mei, the girl who shared his desk.

Zhang Mei instinctively looked up and tilted her body. However, it was no use. The ninja swooped down and its Ninja Blade plunged into her shoulder.

"Ah." Zhang Mei screamed in pain, so panicked she forgot to call for help.

"Zhang Mei!" Du Kang cried out in pain and started shooting at the ninja dressed in dark blue tight clothes, quickly emptying his clip. He then unsheathed a Samurai Sword and prepared to charge.

"Du Kang, save me." Zhang Mei, pinned to the ground, saw Du Kang’s reaction and clung onto the hope, reaching out for him. But the next moment, the ninja pulled back its blade, cutting her shoulder and then her neck. Her decapitated head, with eyes wide open in anger, rolled onto the floor.

"Zhang Mei, die!" Seeing the blood gushing from her severed neck staining the floor in bright red, Du Kang was enraged and pounced towards the ninja to attack.

"Du Kang, don’t be stupid, run!" Said Liu Yu, who was on good terms with Du Kang. He then ran, followed by the other members of the Students’ Union, dashing off without looking back. When the ninja first appeared, a few of them thought about fight back. But as people started running, their courage faltered, especially after they witnessed Zhang Mei’s decapitated body.

Du Kang calmed down and turned around to run. He had just seen his first love being killed and was too angry. He had not thought of dying with her, or seeking vengeance.

Why would the ninja let such weak prey escape? It launched itself at an angle close to the ground and threw a shuriken.

As Du Kang was the furthest back and had attacked the ninja earlier, he was chosen as the first target. The shuriken pierced through the back of his heart. Soon after, it exploded.

Du Kang was tossed around by the shock wave, and the wound on his body began to decay. He endured the pain and got up, but before he could run a few steps ahead, he saw the ninja charging at him, swinging its Ninja Blade at his neck.

"Get lost." Du Kang swung the Samurai Sword with all his strength, aiming at the Ninja Blade.

Clang, the sound of metal collision, a spark erupted, and Du Kang joyously discovered that his own strength was only a bit weaker than his opponent, he might even win the fight.

"Bac..." Du Kang tried to shout the others back into battle, but he felt a sudden pain in his abdomen before he could finish. Energy drained from his body all at once, and he fell to his knees on the ground.

The Shadow Demon Ninja grabbed Du Kang’s hair and jerked his head backwards, drew his knife and slashed it across Du Kang’s neck.

"Come on, let’s fight." Suddenly, Du Kang let go of his blade, tightly hugging the Shadow Demon Ninja, trying to immobilize him and create an opportunity for the others.

However, most of them, having witnessed this scene, did not have the courage to provide assistance, instead fleeing for their lives.

"You idiot." Liu Yu’s eyes were moist, and he cursed, feeling that his friend’s death was truly unworthy. In the last scene, he saw his friend’s throat being slashed by the ninja blade while his head was held aloft by his hair in the ninja’s hand.

The headless corpse spurted blood, and quickly collapsed. The floor was soon stained red.

When Tang Zheng entered the department store lobby, he saw that the remaining nine members of the students’ union brushed past him, chased by the Shadow Demon Ninja, running in panic like a group of lost dogs.

"Tang Zheng." On seeing Tang Zheng rushing in, Zhao Feng immediately cried out with joy.

Without any hesitation, Tang Zheng broke into a run. Seeing the Shadow Demon leap towards Liu Liu twenty meters away, he immediately raised his gun and started to shoot to control the situation.

The crisp sound of gunfire echoed, as bullets hit the ninja’s upper body, forcing him to fall from midair.

Tang Zheng didn’t have time to reload his clip and instead drew out his samurai sword, promptly rushing towards the Shadow Demon Ninja.

Seeing Tang Zheng run by with a calm demeanour, not showing any panic, Song Huiqiao suddenly felt that this was how a man was supposed to act. Upon seeing herself and her classmates and classmates, she felt embarrassed.

Dealing with this agile monster, Tang Zheng directly activated his gravity suppression. As the shadow demon ninja, infamous for its flexibility, suddenly slowed down as if moving in a swamp. The next moment, Tang Zheng’s samurai sword came swinging towards its head.

One blow, sure kill. Seeing the head tossed in the air disintegrating into a cloud of black mist, the nine remaining members of the students’ union were left dumbfounded. The event took place so quickly, they had barely reacted and were still running away when Liu Qian accidentally crashed into a glass door, resulting in a large bump on his forehead.

Tang Zheng grabbed Liu Liu’s chest clothes and retreated abruptly. He didn’t want to get injured by the ninja’s self-destruction.

First, Liu Liu was under the pressure of gravity and was unable to catch a breath when Tang Zheng grabbed her chest. His grip was so tight that her left breast was squeezed in his hand, causing her sharp pain.

Tang Zheng felt a slick sensation in his grasp but he didn’t want to overstep, so he let go after quickly retreating by five meters.

The nine members of the students’ union looked terrified, but at least they stopped running.

"Be mindful of Yao Feng." Tang Zheng picked up the soul shard and walked towards the door. These impractical newbies didn’t even motivate him to recruit.

"Wait, I’m going with you." Song Huiqiao grabbed Tang Zheng’s arm and suddenly made a decision. "I would like you to teach me how to fight."

She saw how pretentious the campus belle could be but she also saw how hopeless their team was during the slaughter. To survive, she had to rely on a strong person and at the very least learn how to battle.

Would she be offering herself? Song Huiqiao hadn’t thought about it but she didn’t believe Tang Zheng was that kind of man or else there wouldn’t be a virgin in the team.

"Thank you for saving me, I want to stay with you too," Liu Liu also saw through everything. These people couldn’t be relied upon. "I will fight hard, please give me a chance."

All the women came forward. There were no options other than Tang Zheng – they couldn’t rely on people like Liu Qian.

"Being with me will only get you killed faster," Tang Zheng frowned. Having a bunch of women around him would be too much of a burden.

The women didn’t seem to mind and decided to cross the bridge when they came to it.

"Tang Zheng, add me too. I want to learn how to fight," Zhang Teng felt despondent when he realized that Song Huiqiao wasn’t paying him any attention.

"If you really think so, then come along. Right now, we need to find a car and go," Tang Zheng seemed reluctant but deep down, he thought it wouldn’t be so bad to have more newbies to distract the monsters during battles. Cheng Cheng’s safety would also increase multifold. As for characters like Liu Qian with ulterior motives, they could be used as cannon fodder.

The former principal ran into Dantai and avoided danger. Mei Jueye controlled a group of hooligans like puppets, and there wasn’t much risk. Li Han was lucky; he didn’t encounter any ninjas. Gu Xueqi relied on her activated seed ability and directly crushed the Shadow Demon Ninja.
