Chapter 745: Chapter 8 Group Brawl
Dongzi’s voice wasn’t quiet, all the high school students heard it, but they all remained detached. Except for a few curious ones who kept watching the fight, the rest of the students were glued to their monitors, fully engaged either in chatting or playing online games. Two or three of them even ignored everyone else, singing songs into the microphone for their own amusement.
"Let’s reduce the time then, until next June before the college and high school exams, I don’t want to see underage kids coming to the internet cafes near here." Tang Zheng compromised. He was not a savior, he just felt a bit frustrated seeing these students wasting their lives every day.
"Alright then." Dongzi wasn’t confident, planning to gloss over the issue for now.
"I won’t let you guys work for nothing. Yao Feng, give each of them twenty thousand." Tang Zheng glanced at the fresh blood on the baseball bat, shaking it twice, "I’ll come by occasionally for inspections. If you do well, there will be an extra reward after next year’s exams."
Instantly, the spirits of the seven hooligans were lifted. Even the one with a broken leg had a joyful expression. Twenty thousand yuan was what they could make working hard for a year, and now they had to do nothing more than watch some middle school students. It was too easy.
Watching Yao Feng handing out stacks of hundred-yuan bills to Dongzi without any hesitation, many onlookers felt envious. This money was earned too easily.
"Aren’t you just bored and idle? Throwing away tens of thousands just to stop students from surfing the internet?"
"Sponsoring a university student would make more sense than what you’re doing. If they have given up on themselves, why bother?"
"You should have donated the money to children in impoverished mountainous areas. I know several of these students. They lie to their families every day to skip school and come to the internet cafe. They have wasted their lives."
Those coming to the internet cafe were all young people. While they thought Tang Zheng had a good intention, they felt it was not worth the effort. Meanwhile, some felt pity, thinking that if there had been someone to care for them when they were young and driven them out of the internet cafes, their current lives might have been different. Although they were not sure if they would be happier, their lives must have been much better than now.
The high school students were still unresponsive. Some were ashamed, but the rest continued to lose themselves in their digital enjoyments, completely oblivious to what was happening.
"What are you still doing? All of you, get out." A youth with a fiery temper couldn’t stand it anymore. He shouted loudly to echo Tang Zheng.
"Right. Go to school. No more playing." The youths began to make a racket and even started dragging the students out of the internet cafe.
Dongzi also joined them and was more forceful, switching off the power directly. Those who resisted got a slap in the face immediately. In front of the hooligans, those middle school students who dared to shout at their parents, now didn’t dare to say a single word. One by one, they left with their heads down.
"Idiot, go and turn off the electricity." Tang Zheng watched the chaos in the cafe and couldn’t help but get a headache. He didn’t want to cause a big incident.
"You can’t do that. It’s a crime." A few network administrators looked worried. If the boss found out about today’s incident, getting their salary cut was the least of their worries. Most likely, they would be fired.
"Allowing minors into an internet cafe is what’s illegal. And by the way, this is an illegal internet cafe, isn’t it? I haven’t seen your business license." Dongzi was quite the talker and blamed them.
The network administrators were left speechless. Indeed, this internet cafe was not regulated. How could they make money if they ran things by the book?
Five minutes later, the internet cafe was empty. The youths gathered by the door, excited and feeling accomplished, pleased with their actions.
"Thank you, everyone. I’ll treat you to lunch today. Dongzi, make sure they are well taken care of." Tang Zheng handed out twenty thousand yuan to Dongzi. After all, they couldn’t go unrewarded after all the work they had done.
Touched by Tang Zheng’s sincerity and generosity, the youths cheered. They liked this kind of generous man.
"Alright, boss." Dongzi was rather astute, changing his tone immediately, and decided to get to work earnestly. Maybe after half a year, he could get a position under Tang Zheng. With such a wealthy man, a slight favor would be enough for him to live comfortably for a lifetime.
Yao Feng was extremely excited. The boss was indeed the boss, the way he handled things surely had a different impact. He couldn’t help creeping closer to Tang Zheng, puffing out his chest, wishing he could tell everybody he was Tang Zheng’s follower.
Just as Tang Zheng was about to leave with Yao Feng, three minivans sped up and screeched to a stop in front of the internet cafe. The doors opened, and seventeen or eighteen disgruntled youths jumped out, either holding crowbars or baseball bats, glaring at Tang Zheng and his group.
A middle-aged, obese man got out, the minivan shaking from his weight. His face fell immediately at the sight of what was going on.
"What are you guys doing here? All of you, get out!" He yelled and hurried into the internet cafe to check for any damage.
"Boss, this kid smashed your internet cafe, drove everyone away and said he wouldn’t let anyone use the internet in the future." An exhausted high school student with bloodshot eyes from staying up all night was aggrieved about being driven away. He still had six yuan of unused internet time and started stirring the pot to get the boss to beat Tang Zheng.
"Where are you from?" The middle-aged man turned red in the face when he heard someone had caused trouble. Especially when he saw the bloodstains inside through the glass, and the six despondent network administrators, he became furious.
"Watch your mouth." Seeing this as an opportunity to prove his loyalty, Dongzi immediately shouted at the middle-aged man.
"You little brat, don’t want to hang around here anymore?" The middle-aged man rushed over when he received a phone call from a network administrator about someone causing trouble. The admin only mentioned a disturbance and didn’t mention that they arrived in a fifty million yuan luxury car. Besides, Tang Zheng dressed modestly and really didn’t look like a rich man.
"Boss, everyone’s cleared out, but that’s not our gig." The female cashier complained, subtly hinting that she didn’t want to get her wages docked for this.
"Beat ’em, beat ’em to death for me." The middle-aged man didn’t give it much thought thinking his competitors had sent people to create trouble, besides with the young crew blocking the entrance, led by the local hooligan Dongzi, who obviously didn’t have any strong backing, prompting him to order his eighteen hooligans to spring into action.
Immediately, a group brandished their crowbars and baseball bats, ready to pounce on their targets like wolves and tigers, aiming for the substantial reward today’s task would bring in.
"We can’t just free-load off our Boss, tackle up guys." Dongzi, quite persuasive, didn’t show any hesitation or retreat, leading the charge, unarmed.
Yao Feng, being impetuous, was excited and impulsively rushed out to brawl against the opponents.
Everyone had seen Tang Zheng’s high spirits, thinking about the twenty-thousand-yuan lunch, the usually competitive youngsters hollered, slamming into the opponents’ brawl without a second thought.
"Everyone Rebels, really rebels, Huzi, get the choppers." The middle-aged man was infuriated. Even though he brought a considerable number of people with him today, they were outnumbered, despite being unarmed. A prolonged standoff would likely lead to a distress call, requiring a swift conclusion. Hence, he shouted for Huzi to wield the choppers.
Huzi was a tall and muscular man and looked like a polar bear. Swinging his baseball bat around like a fierce wind and knocking out two opponents with practiced ease, clearly very experienced in brawling.
Upon hearing the boss’s orders, Huzi swung his baseball bat a couple of times, pushing back the surrounding enemies, rushing to the minivan, opened the door, and drew two choppers, each blade over a foot long.
Wielding dual choppers, he charged into the crowd, sending the youngsters scattering in different directions. After all, everyone was willing to lend a hand, but no one wanted to get injured or end up with stitches in the hospital.
Five more hooligans managed to free themselves and promptly ran towards the minivan, drawing their choppers. Tang Zheng’s side momentum dwindled instantly.
Despite being an unruly mob, they couldn’t handle the stress. Dongzi though, displayed no fear, which left Tang Zheng surprised.
Huzi wasn’t the kind of hot-headed youth who would mindlessly chop anyone in the way. He repelled a group of youngsters and headed straight towards Dongzi, slashing his chopper at his chest.
The oil-stained down jacket ripped open, scattering low-quality grey fluff everywhere. Dongzi’s face didn’t falter. He became more aggressive, lunging forward, intending to engage in close-quarters combat.
Huzi had a few years of Sanda under his belt, showing impressive combat power, kicked Dongzi’s chest, knocking him down, before setting his sights on Tang Zheng and charging towards him.
Tang Zheng tightened his grip on the baseball bat, taking a step back when his phone rang. He stopped and pulled out his mobile phone to answer the call.
Who’s this sharp? The young men were dumbfounded, wanting to ask Tang Zheng if he was aware of any impending danger, with a rugged man wielding dual choppers, coming for him.
Huzi’s eyes were filled with murderous intent, and his face twisted with aggression. Was he being disrespected?
"What are we having for dinner?"
No sooner had An Xiuru asked the question, the chopper was already descending on Tang Zheng’s shoulder.
Tang Zheng casually swung his alloy baseball bat as though swatting away a fly. But in the eyes of the spectators, the steel knife crashed into the baseball bat, creating a chilling sound that gave them goosebumps. The knife went flying out of Huzi’s hand, landing far off.
Huzi couldn’t believe it, he raised his left hand holding the chopper, but it too was knocked away. Instantly, the baseball bat landed on his shoulder with a loud crack; his arm was broken, twisted at a right angle.
Thunk, Tang Zheng kicked Huzi away, afterwards hurling his baseball bat which flew away like an intercontinental missile, exiting everyone’s field of view, grazing past the middle-aged man’s head and struck the minivan parked by the side of the highway.
Clink, the shrill sound of metal hitting the vehicle resonating on the main street as though the van was struck by a siege hammer, the force of the impact, tilting it forty degrees. Pausing for a few seconds before resuming, due to inertia, it rocked back and forth with a creaking sound.
Everybody froze, breaking out into a cold sweat, staring blankly at Tang Zheng. The middle-aged man’s face was breaking into a cold sweat too, the gust from the flying baseball bat almost tore his face apart.
"I’m fine" Tang Zheng assured An Xiuru, who was concerned, "am fighting at an internet cafe near Yuguang Middle School on Heping Road."
"Are you disadvantaged? Shall I call the police?" An Xiuru’s voice turned stern with concern; she was worried about Tang Zheng.
"I can handle it." Tang Zheng stood chatting with An Xiuru, a crowd watching them silently, dare not speak too loudly. After a strike like that, only a fool would still want to fight.
