Chapter 711: Chapter 53 Arrogant and Dominant

The Resistance’s secret base was established in a canyon. Perhaps due to frequent sieges, the lack of supplies and time mean that the defensive fortifications here weren’t quite perfect. From a bird’s-eye view, it was a scene of complete ruin and disarray. However, the faces of the native residents were filled with smiles, and figures of children playing and chasing each other could be seen everywhere.

By evening, the whole base was filled with the sounds of human activity, the delicious scent of dinner lingering in the air, wafting a scent of happiness.

After the truck convoy passed the soldier patrol, it drove into the base. The members of the Trojan Squad immediately grew tense. After all, they’d kidnapped a Lieutenant Colonel, which was not a small matter.

"What’s there to worry about? If the sky collapses, Tang Zheng will uphold it." Chen Hong never missed a chance to flatter Tang Zheng. As far as she was concerned, this was reality. If their Squadron Leader couldn’t handle it, who could?

Dantai was indeed shrewd, but his personal strength was somewhat lacking. Chu Baichuan had the strength, but he was too impulsive. As for Lin Weiguo, he was basically just a hardworking scavenger. This was the common consensus of the squad.

Just as the convoy halted at the center of the base, groups of fully armed soldiers quickly surrounded them with serious expressions, guns at the ready. Clearly, someone had sneakily reported the conflict that had taken place in the convoy.

"Move it, why are you zoning out?" The washed-up star wasn’t thinking straight. He kicked the Lieutenant Colonel and planned to have him disembark first to assert dominance.

"You damn dogs, I’m going to execute you." The old-fashioned Lieutenant Colonel hadn’t learned his lesson, instinctively reaching for his handgun at his waist. Unfortunately, it had been confiscated earlier.

"You old fossil, dare to talk back." Chen Hong found she liked the feeling of tormenting people. She raised her hand to slap him.

"Forget it, let’s give him some dignity." Tang Zheng stopped Chen Hong, walked up to the Lieutenant Colonel and assessed him. "If you parade him around as a captive, you’ll undermine the dignity of the entire Resistance base. That could complicate any future attempts to establish our presence here."

Dantai nodded. They expected to spend at least four or five days here. It would be quite troublesome if someone were to cause trouble every day. What they needed to do now was prove their strength to the base commander, secure a safe place to stay, keep a low profile, and wait for an opportunity to assassinate the queen.

"Good thing you know your place." The Lieutenant Colonel snorted, straightened his back while fixing his collar, and looked down, attempting to look down on Tang Zheng. However, all he saw was a broad chest.

Tang Zheng, towering over one meter eight, cast a large shadow over the Lieutenant Colonel, akin to a steadfast mountain blanketing him in its shadow.

"I don’t like looking up at people; it’s best if you lower your head." The Lieutenant Colonel thought Tang Zheng had softened, and he immediately took on a hardened tone. He shouted at Chen Hong, "My gun, give it back!"

Bang, Tang Zheng drew the Beretta M9 pistol and jammed it into the Lieutenant Colonel’s mouth. The force resulted in his lips breaking.

The Lieutenant Colonel felt his entire dental structure loosen. His face was a mixture of shock and rage as he glared at Tang Zheng, who he hadn’t expected to actually resort to violence.

"I don’t like looking up at others either, nor do I like it when others speak loudly. It’s annoying." Tang Zheng forcefully pushes the muzzle further into his mouth. He liked the Beretta thanks to its large magazine. Although its power paled in comparison to the Desert Eagle, it would blow off the top of the skull if it hit the head at close range.

The Lieutenant Colonel saw Tang Zheng starting to pull the trigger and couldn’t keep calm anymore. He quickly nodded to show agreement.

"Good, I hope no one bothers us during our stay at this base. All right?" Tang Zheng pointed at Bai Guo, "You’ve seen our invisible girl. If you don’t want to be killed in your sleep, behave."

The Lieutenant Colonel nodded, but in his heart was resolved that as soon as he regained his freedom, he would arrest these folks for espionage and have them executed.

"I really don’t like that dog-eat-dog look in your eyes." Of course, Tang Zheng won’t blindly trust this stubborn old-fashioned man. He took out a capsule the size of a fingernail and flaunted it in front of the Lieutenant Colonel, "A miniature remote control bomb. I hope I don’t need to use it."

The Lieutenant Colonel was relieved when Tang Zheng pulled away the muzzle, but then puzzled. When he realized what that ominous object could be, his face turned pale with fear. He wanted to scream, but Tang Zheng suddenly reached out and grabbed his cheek, silencing him.

"You’re indeed a smart man to become a Lieutenant Colonel." Tang Zheng shoved the miniature bomb into the Lieutenant Colonel’s mouth, forcing him to swallow it.

"You bastard!" The Lieutenant Colonel turned as white as a sheet and clung tightly to Tang Zheng’s arm. He felt a sudden discomfort in his throat and stomach, began to cough violently and squatted down to throw up.

"Oh right, don’t try to throw it up. If it comes in contact with even a bit of air, it will detonate." Of course, Tang Zheng didn’t mention that it was just ordinary cold medicine.

The Lieutenant Colonel, who had already thrown up the lunch he had eaten, closed his mouth, forcing it back down his throat after hearing this.

"How disgusting." Chen Hong gave him a disdainful look while Pang Meiqin filmed the whole thing with interest using a DV camera.

Chu Baichuan appeared somewhat eager, also wishing to interrogate him.

"I think you know how to respond." Tang Zheng patted the Lieutenant Colonel’s shoulder with a smile, "Alright, let’s not keep them waiting. Let’s go."

"Uncle, you’re amazing." Lu Fan rushed over and grabbed Tang Zheng’s hand, walking out of the command vehicle with him. The fearless little loli, with a rifle on her back, was quite fierce.

The first contact between both sides was cordial enough, thanks to Tang Lu and the native chief’s testimonies in favor of the Trojan Squad. Besides, with the intervention of the Lieutenant Colonel, Tang Zheng and his companions were spared the ordeal of being interrogated in a small dark room. Instead, they could enjoy dinner in the camp and move freely.

"Looking at the poor strength of the Resistance, I wonder how many years it will take to kill the Queen Mother." Lu Fan was leaning against Tang Zheng, touching her belly, sucking on a lollipop, and absently gazing at the starry sky.

"At least we can have a few good night sleeps." Pang Meiqin threw another log into the campfire. Her demands were not high; she could rest as long as she could. After all, it was Tang Zheng who had to worry about the boss-level battles.

"I’m afraid that won’t be possible." Dantai saw a group of generals and a team of soliders coming towards them and let out a laugh, "I guess they’ve finished their investigation and are about to announce the results."

"Hello, everyone. I’m the base commander." The weary, 60-year-old man with white hair and a face full of wrinkles looked stressed out, likely from the concerns of keeping the base running. "Thank you for rescuing Tang Lu and the others, and for your contributions to the base."

As the Commander extended his wrinkled hand, Tang Zheng shook it, saying, "I’m willing to give everything for the survival and continuation of the human race."

Looking at Tang Zheng’s sincere and clear eyes and his distinct facial features, the Commander was pleased with his reply, and his impression of him greatly improved.

"I am willing to be the pioneer in attacking the Queen Mother." Killing the Queen Mother was a necessary task in clearing the game. Since it couldn’t be avoided, Tang Zheng proactively took up the mission, hoping to exchange it for some preferential treatment. Besides, everyone can bluff; one just needs a thick skin.

As expected, upon hearing Tang Zheng’s words, the generals murmured among themselves, deeply moved by his dedicated spirit.

"My God, what if we become the cannon fodder?" Chen Hong was shocked and asked Yu Manli in a low voice.

"That wouldn’t happen. Tang Zheng must have thought of that." Yu Manli didn’t believe Tang Zheng would make such a mistake. He would definitely demonstrate his power, forcing the Commander to take him seriously, and perhaps even using him as a trump card, making him safer than an ordinary soldier.

"Hmph, I fear he might have overrated his abilities. Pregnant woman, little girl, and an amputee; how useful could they be?" A General, who was on friendly terms with the Lieutenant Colonel, sneered at Tang Zheng to defend his friend.

"If you’re not convinced, we can compare ourselves with each other." Tang Zheng was in need of a few targets to aim at.

"You said it." The middle-aged General’s complacent smile flashed across his face, fearing that they would refuse, and quickly said, "Lieutenant Parker, take your Power Armor squad to compete with our heroes."

"Isn’t this unfair? They are civilians, they haven’t learned how to use Power Armor." A young General, who was opposed to this method, raised an objection.

Upon seeing those armors, Tang Zheng realized they should be referred to as crude mechanical exoskeletons. They were nearly four meters high, with a steel structure, exposed wires, and not even wiped-off black engine oil; everything about them shouted ’cheap’. Yet these power armors, which seemed inferior to Iron Tyrant, were considered trump cards by the Resistance.

"Yes, sir." Lieutenant Parker, flushed with excitement and anticipation, challenged Tang Zheng as he was afraid of his refusal, "Wear them, and you can fight a mechanical squid alone, even two. Of course, the controls might be a bit difficult for you. Just getting used to the 300 or so buttons for basic movement could take a few days. So, those who can control these are all elite."

"How tough can this piece of junk be?" Lu Fan curled her lips in disdain. She thought that they would be green with envy if Tang Zheng showed the Hellfire, "Doesn’t even have a smart control, yet dares brag about it?"

"It’s too bad." Bai Guo shook her head because she didn’t understand where their confidence came from.

"The Power Armor wields two 30mm caliber heavy machine guns, firing 3000 rounds per minute. The backpack-type ammo bin holds 40,000 rounds, with firepower strong enough to shred any enemy before it. For close combat, it has a nanometal military knife, capable of slicing through the armor of mechanical squids." Lieutenant Parker introduced the advantages of Power Armor. Suddenly hearing Bai Guo saying ’it’s too bad’, he paused, then his face turned red and he was on the verge of challenging her.

When Bai Guo received an intimidating stare from the soldiers, she felt a bit scared and looked towards Tang Zheng.

"Indeed, it’s too bad." Tang Zheng sprinted a few steps, jumped, and grabbed the Power Armor’s handrail with one hand, jumping into the cockpit three meters high, without even bothering to step on the stairs.

The soldiers gasped for breath. Just this one move displayed by Tang Zheng showed his excellent physique, leaving them in awe.

"Did he just jump a meter and a half effortlessly?" Lieutenant Parker felt demoralized. Every time he got into an armor, he needed to climb the steps with the help of a handrail. It would take him at least two steps to get on.
