Chapter 662: Chapter 9: Log into the Game
The Silver Trojan started its countdown, and a sense of tension once again filled the room!
"Sister Xin Lan, what’s wrong with you? You had a falling out with Tang Zheng?" Bai Guo looked puzzled as Li Xinlan had stayed in the corner since she teleported into the room, remaining silent.
"Trojan, what’s this mission and the conditions to clear it?" Tang Zheng had also noticed Li Xinlan’s unusual behavior, but with limited time, he had many other questions to address.
"The mission is the Mechanical Labyrinth, and the condition to clear it is to kill the queen!"
The Japanese tourists, upon seeing the firearms on the hollow steel rack, rushed straight towards them. Holding the guns in their hands, they warily observed Tang Zheng and the others. Only with firearms could they feel safe in this foreign land.
The Japanese were very united. To get their hands on the weapons early, a few of them spontaneously formed a human wall to keep the other Chinese newcomers at bay.
The young mother with her daughter was being jostled by the crowd. Probably to avoid hurting the child, she didn’t try to fight for the weapons. Eight female bank employees in uniforms also stood aside, falsely calm, watching the frantic crowd, sharing their thoughts and preparing to choose a representative to negotiate with Tang Zheng. In a strange environment, familiar people were bound to stick together.
The elderly couple supported each other and didn’t join the chaos. The male of the young couple rushed towards the steel rack like a hungry tiger, with the sole intent of getting a weapon first no matter what.
Three high school students, their eyes lighting up at the neatly arranged variety of weapons, went wild and dashed over. They shouted at others to get out of the way and pushed and shoved people from behind to get their hands on the firearms faster, causing a greater commotion.
"Stop pretending to be ladies! Go and fight for it, or you will have nothing but death without equipment!" The man in the jacket sneered at Tang Zheng before focusing his attention on the eight female bank employees. Seeing their skirt-clad buttocks, he swallowed and reached out to pat one of them.
The female employee he was eyeing sidestepped promptly, avoiding his groping paw.
"Hmmph, in three days, you’ll come crawling to me without me having to lift a finger!" The man in the jacket spat sulkily.
No longer acting aloof, the female employees dove into the crowd. A kid who had acquired some equipment smelled the perfume wafting from behind him, and also felt the soft bodies of women brushing against him, causing his heart to throb with exhilaration. As he turned around and saw a woman, he deliberately blocked her way, while the other two joined in the ’fun’, purposefully stirring chaos in the crowd.
Three Japanese men in the human wall, growing frustrated by the jostling, cursed and were about to smack the high school students but were held back by their compatriots.
"Those who’ve got their equipment should leave the steel rack, don’t linger around here!" Bai Guo shouted twice, but no one paid any attention—everyone was grabbing equipment in a frenzy. Two Japanese men who grabbed eleven ammo clips were punished and shocked until they fell down. This instantly quietened the frenzied crowd, causing a collective retreat.
"You’ll get shocked if you take more than your fair share of ammo clips!" Bai Guo added, and repeated the instructions twice in both Chinese and Japanese before addressing the young mother with her daughter. "Don’t stand still, go take your equipment first, or you’ll die."
The three high school students were not willing to leave. Instead, they wanted to join the commotion around the female employees. Irritated, Chu Baichuan marched right over, grabbed one of them by the collar, and slapped him across his face. Immediately, his nose started to bleed.
"We’ve got guns too—let’s take him out!" One of the students, emboldened with his AK74 in hand, imitated the pose he saw in Counter-Terrorism Elite OL games, pulled the rifle bolt back and aimed right at Chu Baichuan. Without any hesitation, his finger was on the trigger and he pulled it.
The other guy wasn’t that impulsive; he hesitated.
Chu Baichuan didn’t touch the rifle, to avoid getting shocked. He just lifted his leg and gave a heavy kick to the student’s lower abdomen, causing him to yell out and roll away, too incapacitated to get up for a long while.
"Do you really think playing FPS games for a few days qualifies you to handle a gun? If you wanted to shoot someone, at least remember to switch off the safety!" Chu Baichuan scoffed in irritation, feeling particularly annoyed by the youths who were even more narcissistic than Mei Jueye; they just did whatever they wanted without consideration.
"Xinlan, come here and grab your equipment!" Lin Weiguo and Dantai pushed through the crowd and gave Li Xinlan some space.
"Thank you!" Li Xinlan thanked them and picked up her share of the equipment, but didn’t hurry to put it on. Instead, she efficiently checked the firearms.
"Didn’t Tang Zheng give you the Thunderstorm rifle?" Lin Weiguo also noticed that something was off.
"Trojan, pay twenty points and provide me with a general idea of the clearing information!" Zhuo Lie glanced at Tang Zheng indifferently, unfazed by the possible gains and losses.
"Look, Group Leader Zhuo is so considerate. Alright, I’ll tell you the first step. This time, you need to protect five people. No matter what, you must bring them to the rebels’ base. Although there’s no mandatory teaming up, I must remind you—the more of them you can keep alive, the greater your chances of defeating the queen. So, it’s best to form teams. As soon as you enter the game, they will start facing attacks."
"Alright, time’s up. Teleportation begins!" Trojan didn’t give them any opportunity to ask questions. Flashes of white light flickered as they were teleported into the game.
This was a pier with numerous shipping containers docked. The sea breeze blowing in from the azure sea carried a hint of fishiness, making one feel refreshed.
Everyone was scanning their surroundings. It was dusk at the moment. The last glow of the sunset fell on the sea, casting a layer of gold. A fishing boat, laden with tuna, was returning to the harbor!
"Xinlan, here’s your wristwatch. The weapons are inside!" Tang Zheng hadn’t had time to give these items to Li Xinlan who left in a hurry a few days earlier.
"A space wristwatch?" The woman with purple nail polish’s eyes lit up. She licked her lips, her face full of envy. In her team, only Zhuo Lie and the boy he was taking care of had such premium gear. The others still carried space backpacks. Though only the size of a crossbody bag, it was much lower in rank than a wristwatch.
"These are Wasteland Potions and eyeballs from the Hundred-Eyed Demon Lord. Eat them!" There was only one potion left, which Tang Zheng had saved for the young woman.
"Sister Xinlan, these were deliberately saved just for you by Uncle. Each can double all your physical indicators!" Lu Fan was beaming as he explained to the young women, building up Tang Zheng’s praise.
"Great stuff!" Two strong men wearing beanies scanned it with a wristwatch. After seeing the description, they immediately became excited and turned to Tang Zheng, "Brother, do you have more? We can exchange items with you!"
Zhuo Lie was also staring at Tang Zheng, his intention clear. The two items, though unimpressive, had a value of fourteen thousand points. If they hadn’t estimated Tang Zheng’s strength, they would have been tempted to seize them by force.
"Boss, do you have more?" The purple nail polish woman sashayed provocatively toward Tang Zheng and leaned against him,
"Respect yourself!" Tang Zheng pushed the woman away and turned to Zhuo Lie, "Sorry, I need to save them for my companions."
The purple nail polish woman was rejected and looked a bit embarrassed. However, she proceeded to cling onto Tang Zheng, "Boss, don’t be stingy. I will exchange good stuff with you."
"Brother, don’t refuse just yet. How about this Level A artifact?" Zhuo Lie tossed a Level A artifact to Tang Zheng. It was his spoils of war. Everyone had to keep some trump cards in the Trojan Horse Game. "It’s worth more than seven thousand points."
"Come on, our Boss is not a fool. Unless you can bring an S-grade artifact for exchange. A-level things aren’t worth anything. You can’t even sell them below price to the Trojan. Even if you keep it, it’s junk." Chu Baichuan blurted out without thinking and got elbowed sharply by Ai Yixin.
"Our boss using A-class items? It’s too much of a loss of status!" Pang Meiqin tutted twice - not to mock Zhuo Lie but to warn him. Tang Zheng was very strong, and if he became aggressive, their position would also improve.
"Hah, someone without an S-grade Firefly dares to brag? Not afraid your tongue will slip?" The man in the jacket was bitter that Tang Zheng had beaten him, so he sarcastically retorted. Just as he finished, Zhuo Lie shot him a sharp look.
"Shut up, our boss is wearing a Tyrannosaurus Protective Clothing, SS class!" The woman with purple nail polish reached for Tang Zheng’s waist, openly flirting with him. However, she was rejected by him.
Old Zhou and Old Li were also taken aback. They glanced at Tang Zheng’s neckline, surreptitiously scanning it. It indeed was of SS level. They exchanged a look - no wonder he was at the boss level, his equipment was way above theirs.
"Enough chatter, the newbies need to put on protective clothing. The rest of you come here. We are going to plan our next move!" Dantai didn’t disturb Tang Zheng, who was busy with the radar. He proactively took over these chores. They would first discuss and then let him decide.
The radar given by the Trojan was similar to a pen, it was a rod-shaped object fifteen centimeters long. By pressing the green button on the left side, a book-sized virtual screen popped up, displaying a map.
In the upper left corner was a short-haired girl, her frame green, and in the upper right corner of the map was a green triangle.
"This girl must be the target we need to protect, and the triangle on the map must be her location. It’s pretty easy to find!" Lu Fan leaned against Tang Zheng, voicing his observation. Then, he turned on the radar and after scanning, he pouted in frustration, "How come it’s not the same girl?"
"Everybody, press the green button to open the map and see who your target is." As soon as Tang Zheng finished speaking, he fixed his gaze on Mei Jueye, who was about to make a break for it. "If you dare to escape now, I will break your legs."
"Who said I was escaping? I was just scouting the terrain!" Mei Jueye replied defiantly. Nevertheless, he didn’t dare to act rashly. Although he was mad, he was still somewhat self-aware. Besides, now was not the time to make trouble.
"Bai Chuan, Bi Yun, keep an eye on him!" Tang Zheng didn’t have time to deal with him right now.
"Group up according to the targets displayed on the map!" Zhuo Lie wanted to seize the conversation to bargain with Tang Zheng about trading one eyeball. But as soon as he finished speaking, he was met with collective opposition from a group of women.
"No way, I will not separate from the boss!" Chen Hong spoke up before anyone else could react. Without Tang Zheng, she was definitely heading on a one-way trip to death.
"I also disagree with this grouping. I want to be with Tang Zheng." Pang Meiqin didn’t care about anything else. She staked out a position for herself first as she knew she can’t pretend to be reserved or aloof at this time. She could only have one life.
