Chapter 556 - 29 Tomb

Chapter 556: Chapter 29 Tomb

"Tang Zheng, I was wrong." Ruan Feifei struggled in her last attempt to resist, not wanting Yu Manli to strip her clothes. However, thinking about Tang Zheng’s Seed Ability that rendered her completely helpless like a lamb to the slaughter, she dared not electrocute Yu Manli but could only weep and plead to Tang Zheng.

Yu Manli grabbed the female host’s fingers, almost breaking her wrist, causing her to cry out in pain, no longer able to clutch Tang Zheng’s calf.

Boom, Yu Manli didn’t want another competitor. Since she had already made an enemy, she might as well be ruthless. Fearing that Tang Zheng would soften again when hearing Ruan Feifei’s crying and pleading, she quickly grabbed her hair and smashed her fiercely onto the ground.

Whimpering, Ruan Feifei’s cheeks buried in the yellow sand, eating a mouthful of sand grit, she couldn’t utter a word.

"You should thank Tang Zheng for his mercy in not breaking your legs and leaving you in the desert!" Yu Manli huffed, chastising Ruan Feifei, loyal to Tang Zheng like a faithful dog.

"What is your ability?" Seeing how Yu Manli easily dealt with Ruan Feifei, Tang Zheng was somewhat curious.

"Dragon’s Strength!" Yu Manli picked up a rock, her fingers crushing it to pieces, her powerful fist landing on Ruan Feifei, "I can easily overturn a tank now."

Clasping her fist, feeling the surging power flowing through her heart, the mature woman’s face flushed, her breaths hurried, even tasting the long-lost thrill of climax. At this moment, she felt that she had become ten years younger in an instant.

"That’s a very useful ability. Let’s go, we’ve lagged too far behind." Tang Zheng walked toward the pickup truck. Chen Hong was regaining her strength, leaning against the truck panting, a hint of satisfaction flashing at the corners of her mouth when she saw Ruan Feifei’s miserable state through the car window.

Yu Manli hesitated for a moment, but she didn’t finish Ruan Feifei. It wasn’t because she feared Tang Zheng’s reproach, but she was cautious about what restrictions might be in the game’s rules. She sought not to take credit, but to avoid blunders.

"Tang Zheng, you said you would spare me if I apologized." Ruan Feifei with a face full of sand thought Tang Zheng was joking. After all, she was young and attractive, appealing to men. But seeing him really leaving without even glancing at her almost naked body, she was genuinely terrified.

Being stripped of her protective clothing, without water and food, without weapons and ammunition, without knowledge of surviving in the desert, Ruan Feifei knew she was destined to die in the desert.

"No need to let it get to you. At least you’re not fighting with the queen and playing the rest of the game. Maybe we will all die and you’ll still be alive." Tang Zheng said indifferently and instructed Chen Hong to drive. "Oh, here’s an advice for you. If the punishment troop finds you, don’t flee. Kill as many enemies as you can because, in the Trojan Horse Game, not being able to score 200 basic points means you’ll be annihilated even if you make it to the room."

The engine roared and the pickup truck sped off, raising a swirl of sand dust.

A disheveled Ruan Feifei struggled to her feet, exerting all her strength to chase the pickup truck. Fear and worry consumed her, tears rolling down her face.

"I was wrong, I was really wrong." Ruan Feifei collapsed on the ground, her hands buried in her hair, crying out in regret. Soon, a surge of anger and defiance flooded her. Suddenly, she jolted up and dashed forward like a madwoman. She scooped up two rifles and seven ammo clips thrown out of the pickup truck window and hugged them tightly to her bosom.

"I can survive this!" Ruan Feifei kept muttering to herself though her mind was a complete mess, entirely clueless about what to do next.

"Why did you give her a gun?" Chen Hong frowned, her dissatisfaction with Tang Zheng evident in her voice. "Such a woman who brought all this on herself deserves to die."

"Don’t forget, you were once a newbie, too, desperate for a chance." Besides this reason, the more important thing was that Tang Zheng wanted to see if Ruan Feifei knew how to repent. After all, she was a newbie who had activated her ability. Dying without contributing any value would be a huge loss. He wasn’t afraid of the woman host’s resistance or revenge. In the face of absolute power, she was indistinguishable from an ant.

Before entering Gala small town, Tang Zheng caught up with the fleet. After a brief rest, they set off again and arrived in Siwa by 3 p.m., which was earlier than expected, thanks to the curse.

As soon as they got off the truck, the workers rushed to Jasons’ RV without even taking a mouthful of food, urging him to find the Golden Scarab.

Siwa is a large town with approximately seven thousand people. Due to its proximity to Libya, a border defense force of five hundred people is stationed here.

It has the only oasis nearby and contains temples and ruins from the Ptolemaic Dynasty and the Roman Era, so it is bustling with tourists and merchants. There are also foreign adventurers who come to prospect for gold. The townspeople make a living by growing date palms. The dates are sold to merchants; the leaves and trunks serve as building materials, and the leaf axils are used to make handicrafts like baskets and covers. In short, life here is tolerable, unlike in Gala village, which is more than twenty kilometers away, where they don’t even have electricity.

"How long are we going to stay here? It’s so dirty." The sweltering heat was unbearable. Seeing someone feeding a camel by the well, Lu Fan lost his appetite. To prevent wasting water, the camel’s mouth was placed right over the well. Hence, a lot of water touched by the camel dripped back in.

The newbies noticed the absence of Ruan Feifei, but they kept their queries to themselves, acting oblivious. Chen Hong triumphantly recounted the events, making the newbies behave even more obediently on the surface.

"Did you make up your mind this time?" On the way to Marou’s house with the guide, Dantai asked Tang Zheng honestly with a smile.

"I say we should’ve just broken their legs and abandoned them, they dared to attack me, they’re sick of living." Lu Fan was very angry at these ungrateful newbies.

When it came to dealing with newbies, the Conquerors couldn’t agree on an approach— helping them, letting them self-destruct, or using them as cannon fodder, the views varied.

In front of a stone house, Jasons met Mai Lu’s four wives, and learned that he had gone to a tomb to the west of the town because they had discovered another hidden tomb beneath it.

Mai Lu’s main job was to repair ruins and tombs, and occasionally he would dabble in tomb robbing, so no one was surprised.

"Golden Scarab? I don’t know, you go ask him." One of the Egyptian women, after receiving a tip of a thousand Egyptian pounds, immediately decided to take the exploration team to find her husband.

Mai Lu, a middle-aged man with dark skin and a large beard, was not surprised when he saw Jasons and heard the purpose of their visit. Instead, he directly inquired about the price.

"Scarab? I have it. One million US dollars? No, that’s too little." Mai Lu was very cunning. Seeing Jasons’ interest in this artifact of Ramses II, he immediately asked for a huge price, "At least 50 million."

"Sir, could you show some sincerity?" Victoria, dressed in explorer’s gear, was slightly displeased. She looked down on such greedy people.

"I am very sincere. I dare say no more than 10 people in all of Egypt have seen this artifact. If you hadn’t found my friend, I definitely wouldn’t have given you the time of day." Mai Lu was deliberately taking advantage of the situation. As a tomb robber, he was looking for money that he could use to enjoy life, not an exhibit to be displayed in a glass case, "Alright, 45 million, not a cent less."

Not caring about the haggling, everyone’s attention was on the excavation site—a gigantic stone cavern propped up by six colossal columns—where several pits stretching ten meters deep had been dug, leading to the tomb. The workers were going in and out, hauling soil out in leaf baskets. Occasionally, they would cheer excitedly when they dug up a piece of rotten silverware.

In the distance, two men wrapped in red turbans were arguing with the security guard, their expressions and tones very unfriendly.

"Who are these people?" Lu Fan asked Mai Lu’s wife standing nearby.

"They are a group of self-proclaimed guardians, natural preservationists. They preach things like not allowing the desecration of our ancestors’ tombs, or else punishment will follow. They came to stop us as soon as they found out about the tomb excavation."

"Ignore those fools. How can we go on living without these tombs, by planting a few dates?" Mai Lu spat, laughing "They even claim to protest by fasting, but my people have caught them sneaking off to eat roasted camel several times."

"Fanfan also wants to eat roasted camel." Lu Fan touched his stomach, feeling hungry.

"You will regret it." The protesters were still making a fuss, but the members of the exploration team took them as a laughingstock and didn’t care at all.

About ten minutes later, a stone coffin was carefully lifted and brought out. Those who had been digging the tomb immediately surrounded it, chattering excitedly, all discussing what might be inside.

As archaeology students, Chen Jiarong, Cai Nan, and Sister Shan Shan were quite excited. After a quick glance, they began to squeeze to the front, as opportunities to observe such a scene were rarely available.

"Wait, be careful." Tang Zheng shouted a warning, but it was drowned out by the noisy crowd and the three university students did not hear it.

Before the stone coffin could be opened, commotion arose within the crowd. Two townspeople hired to dig the tomb suddenly fainted and were carried out of the tomb.

"It’s alright, they’re just exhausted." The person in charge inspected them briefly, then announced that they should be sent home while he resumed the task of opening the coffin. After all, everyone wanted to see what was inside, so the excavation halted and the workers started to leave the big pit.

After a man, presumably a priest, mumbled something around the coffin, the head of the team gave the order to open it. Six professionals stepped forward with brushes and shovels, carefully cleaning the cracks of the coffin. After almost twenty minutes, they finally announced that it could be opened.

As the coffin lid was slowly lifted, the breathing of the crowd around it involuntarily slowed down as well. Everyone’s eyes were staring intently at the mummy wrapped in bandages. The bandages were not only light yellow but also showed signs of decay—probably due to their antiquity.

The crowd was whispering quietly, discussing the identity of the mummy. Its hands were folded across its chest, one holding a scepter and the other a pure gold serpent. However, more people’s eyes were fixed on the gold mask on its face. Without a doubt, this was someone of considerable importance.

"We’re rich." Sighed the person in charge internally, and bent over to get a closer look, and then something unexpected happened. (To be continued. If you like this work, please come to Qidian (qidian.com) to vote, your support is my greatest motivation.)
