Chapter 1380: Chapter 49: The Fierce Strength of the Group Leader_2
The Indigenous person dodged, but Tang Zheng exerted force from his feet, surged forward, and thrust a knife into his heart, stirring it sharply to achieve an instant kill.
Five Indigenous people, not lasting even five seconds, were beheaded by Tang Zheng, with severed limbs scattering across the ground.
As Tang Zheng sprinted, he brushed past the body of an Indigenous person, using brute force to yank a backpack off, pulling out a javelin and hurling it.
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh—the javelins, tearing through the air, nailed the Indigenous people with precision.
Several cautious Indigenous dodged, but many more, confident in their martial prowess, attempted to block with their knives. However, Tang Zheng’s strength was immense; the javelins deflected their short knives and pierced their bodies.
The Indigenous’s evasive maneuvers, though lasting less than two seconds, were enough for Tang Zheng to break through the encirclement.
"Gu Xueqi, I hope your luck isn’t too bad!" Holding a short knife, Tang Zheng leaned forward and sprinted like a cheetah, appearing at the spot where the school beauty was gathering vines.
"No signs of a struggle, no blood; she must have been captured," Tang Zheng didn’t pause, he recalled the surroundings and then traced towards the left front.
To his right was a stream, the Indigenous couldn’t have caught up from there. As for behind, Tang Zheng trusted his ability; if anyone were tracking him, he would have noticed, thus indicating the enemy came from the untraversed fan-shaped area to the left front. Tang Zheng chose the central axis to pursue.
"They took Gu Xueqi, what could be the intent?" Tang Zheng could have stopped to carefully search for footprints, which would certainly leave some traces, but that would have led to being encircled by the Indigenous people catching up, losing the initiative.
"They didn’t kill Gu Xueqi immediately; they probably want to use her as a hostage, waiting for me to fall into their trap. That means I must keep moving; they should come to me!" Tang Zheng considered from a different perspective.
The Indigenous possibly anticipated the tactics Tang Zheng would adopt; he, in turn, did the opposite. Once the Indigenous saw their prey deviating from expectancy, hesitation would surely arise, potentially exposing flaws and striking a blow to their confidence.
Indeed, Tang Zheng’s actions could also lead the Indigenous to see Gu Xueqi as worthless and kill her outright; in that case, the school beauty would be terribly unlucky.
Tang Zheng’s running indeed caused a gap in the Indigenous people’s ambush circle. They had initially positioned themselves in the tree trunks near where Gu Xueqi was captured. They planned to attack once Tang Zheng, their prey, paused and distractedly searched for traces. However, unexpectedly, he fled.
The Indigenous people howled, signaling warning to their companions, each agile as a cheetah, dropping from the trees in pursuit of Tang Zheng.
"Heh, not too many!" Tang Zheng glanced back effortlessly. Ahead of him, several Indigenous also jumped down to intercept, though in fewer numbers.
Based on Tang Zheng’s strength, a fierce charge would certainly break through, but with Gu Xueqi to worry about, he had to resort to some tricks.
"Can’t reveal my superpowers yet; otherwise, the Indigenous will be on guard. Save them as my trump card to rescue Gu Xueqi!" Tang Zheng leaped, grabbed a vine forcefully, and swung across.
An Indigenous threw a javelin, which Tang Zheng deflected with his short knife, then he landed, stepping on the Indigenous’s chest. His blade plunged into the head.
Without delaying, with one sure kill, Tang Zheng used the corpse to jump, breaking through the defenses before the Indigenous could encircle him.
"Better not confront them head-on!" Tang Zheng sprinted at full speed, and in less than a minute, he had shaken off the Indigenous. After estimating the time, he suddenly leaped onto a tree, using the vines to move a hundred meters away, then stealthily hid behind a tree trunk.
Tang Zheng didn’t return the same way, as that would most likely not deceive the Indigenous, accustomed to the jungle. After all, the branches and bushes were too dense. Running past them would disturb them; the direction of the branches and fallen leaves could clearly indicate one’s path.
The Indigenous reached where Tang Zheng had climbed the tree, suddenly stopping and starting to search around. They also continually sniffed around like hunting dogs, tracing the scent of their prey.
Tang Zheng gripped his short knife tightly; the Indigenous had a good sense of smell. Following his hiding direction, just as he was prepared to unleash a massacre, the indigenous charged past.
"If you really were like hunting dogs, that would be troublesome!" Tang Zheng didn’t act rashly, still patiently ambushing while also contemplating tactics. He could turn hunter himself and stealthily attack them from behind; killing these Indigenous and then keeping a few alive to extract information.
Tang Zheng didn’t wait long before the second wave of Indigenous passed him. He moved nimbly through the branches, spotting then the two Indigenous dragging Gu Xueqi.
Gu Xueqi was in a dire condition; to the Indigenous, she was just food stock, so they pulled her along by her ankles, her body dragging on the ground covered with dry leaves, scratching her cheeks leaving numerous bloody marks.
Luckily, she was stunned by a poison needle, otherwise, given Gu Xueqi’s strong character, she might have sought to perish together.
"Could this be a trap?" With Tang Zheng’s caution, he didn’t attack rashly. Having seen Xueqi already, a little more time didn’t matter.
The two Indigenous dragging Gu Xueqi walked beneath Tang Zheng; watching the school beauty’s head knock against the tree roots on the ground surface, Tang Zheng could feel the pain himself.
Without waiting any longer, Tang Zheng let go of the tree branch, using momentum to swing 180 degrees downward and then powerfully kicked off the tree trunk. His body, like a released crossbow arrow, shot towards the ground.
Hearing the wind, one Indigenous looked up, but the short knife had already slashed across his face, severing half of his head. As the other opened his mouth to alert others, Tang Zheng swung his arm, throwing the short knife, which pierced into his eyeball and pinned him down.
