Chapter 1366: Chapter 41: Shadow Strike

Black Shadows in the passage filled with pale white light seemed thin and fragile, like wisps of smoke. As they attacked, they brought no sound of wind, making them unpredictable and hard to defend against.

"Be careful!" Mu Nianqi’s vision was sharp, but her warning came too late. Like a cobra, her own shadow detached from the ground, sprouting dozens of sharp spikes aimed at her head.

Qin Yan deployed her shield and dodged by tilting her head, but the shadow, rooted at her feet within the shield, relentlessly pursued her throat like an incurable disease, with the speed of a bullet.

The older sister was hit, the shadow’s spike flattened into a blade-like shape, razor-sharp; it slashed, attempting to behead her.

"Over there!" Qin Yan hadn’t actually seen the enemy; her claim was a bluff. Her firearms spit out spheres of energy, sweeping the area.

The older sister’s neck was like liquid; it rippled, leaving not a single scar.

Lin Weiguo was also attacked by his shadow. The shield was ineffective, but luckily he had his abilities. Though the shadow’s spikes were sharp, slicing on metal armor, they only produced mottled sparks.

Mu Nianqi didn’t resist head-on. A clone appeared beside her, and her real body swapped places, letting the clone take the attack. She swung her curved knife, slashing at the shadow.

The female musketeers, agile by nature, dodged swiftly by jumping. As the shadow stabbed repeatedly, they moved their heads from side to side, drawing their rapiers and thrusting, creating a myriad of sword shadows.

Half of the Conquerors at the front of the team were caught by surprise. Their shadows beneath them turned into deadly assassins, striking silently and suddenly, causing some to panic.

The Newbies weren’t affected, but they were so scared that their legs shook, hastily retreating, further increasing the team’s disarray.

The Conquerors deployed various methods to save and defend themselves. In such a situation, even if others wanted to provide support, they first had to survive the initial assault.

Tao Ran opened the Sigh Wall. A translucent black sphere instantly covered a four-meter diameter, and time seemed to freeze, slowing down the shadow attacks enough for easy evasion.

"Quick, get in!" Tao Ran called to his teammates. Time-space Blackfish shot out, tearing at the shadows non-stop, shredding them and swallowing them up.

Gu Xueqi flicked her fingers, shooting out several Young Phoenixes. They collided with the shadows, blasting them apart. Pang Meiqin instantaneously armed herself with the Angels, deploying an energy barrier. With a loud blast, she radiated energy outwards, shattering the shadows.

Ruan Feifei’s body burst with blue electricity, dazzling in the passage. The shadows that collided with it were blown to pieces.

Dong Zixuan was in a bit of a disarray, her neck nicked, but upon entering Tao Ran’s defense circle, she could comfortably deal with the shadows. Lin Fachan and his girlfriend, following behind Black Long Straight, were spared much trouble.

Tang Zheng waved his hand, gripping the shadow firmly before crushing it with force. He then burst forth with great momentum, heading out. Two female musketeers, before dying, spotted the enemy’s hiding place, informing their leader.

The energy sphere shot out by the Queen’s roar obliterated the wall. Amidst rising dust, Tang Zheng entered a house several meters away; his vision was dark, the enemy invisible. As he was about to pull out a glow stick, Qin Yan had already considerately fired several shots over.

The dark shadows, like a tide from all directions, surged towards Tang Zheng, suddenly forming spikes, a barrage piercing his heart.

Tang Zheng released his potential, Gravity Suppression descended, and the shadow spikes immediately veered off course. Though slowed, they still bombarded his shield.

"Quick, decisive battle!" Mu Nianqi shouted. The enemy wasn’t attacking but hiding like a rat, merely to delay time. Their previous surprise attack only targeted a third of their number and wasn’t with full force, indicating the enemy was conserving life energy, saving it to deal with stronger opponents. Otherwise, none of the Newbies would escape.

Tang Zheng shifted position. The shadows coiled around him like ropes, then converged their spikes into a sharp spiral, stabbing at him.

Zzzt, the shield collapsed, but the 3S Black Suit shield popped out to endure the next attack.

Tang Zheng was entangled, the enemy clearly recognizing his strength and giving him extra attention.

Freed from her predicament, Qin Yan, worried for Tang Zheng, entered Hero Mode, liquefying and merging into the ground. Mu Nianqi and the Old Soldier also charged in.

The flare revealed every detail of the room, yet the enemy remained unseen.

"Zixuan, Ruan Feifei, attack those shadows!" Mu Nianqi’s Northern Wind Ring fired randomly, slicing through the shadows.

The ground shook and cracked, red magma surged out, intertwining with the black shadows. Ruan Feifei’s hair stirred without wind, tiny electric arcs flickered, then intensified, and exploded, filling most of the room. The shadows were torn apart, but soon gathered together again.

The enemy could control the dark shadows, a bizarre ability that allowed them to integrate and shift within them. Though their individual attacks weren’t strong, harassment, assassination, and entanglement were highly effective.

The enemy wasn’t rushed; they were waiting. Once their prey grew agitated and exposed a flaw, that would be the moment for the finishing blow. However, the adversaries’ area attacks put considerable pressure on them. Although they could dissolve into shadows to mitigate the damage received, intense attacks would still inflict harm.

Tang Zheng frowned deeply. Though the enemy’s shadow spikes couldn’t harm him, not seeing the enemy made it useless, even if he could overpower his opponent.
