Chapter 1365: Chapter 40 Assassination_2
Alien Species mustered all their strength and pounced, with more than half of its body breaking free from the ice coffin, but it was soon entangled by sand dust and dragged back.
"Zixuan, it’s your turn." Tang Zheng illuminated the Alien with the Magic Mirror, launching Energy Gathering Combustion and ignited its body, "Fanfan, Xin Lan, just tie it down, give the policewoman a chance to strike."
"You burn it from below!" Lu Fan pouted, allowed the sand dust to disperse, taking charge only of imprisonment.
The ground cracked open, magma appeared, engulfing the Alien Species. The Scarabs burst on a large scale but remained on the periphery, ready to take their place at any moment.
Tang Zheng’s Steel Sky was also summoned, bombarding the Alien Species. However, after a few shots, they dared not to attack anymore since the Orbital Cannon was so powerful that it evaporated the magma, inadvertently reducing the damage to the Alien Species.
"Sha Ou, Brother Lin, go help Bi Yun!" Seeing the situation under control, Tang Zheng directed Group Members to clear the small town of scattered foot soldiers, "Xueqi, go heal the Newbie."
The Sanitation Worker, in a bid to escape with his granddaughter, sprained his foot and now rested against a Wall, his head covered in sweat from pain. The siblings survived as well; however, the brother got shot while protecting his sister. While it wasn’t fatal, their chances of future survival had been reduced.
Together, the young lady and client totaled up to twelve survivors, plus Gao Liangcai and Ran Mei was the last of the Newbies. The severely injured Yu Liben couldn’t hold on and died in the carriage.
The captive in black hit by a stray bullet died and, along with the Newbie Corpse, was burned to ash. Being from another world, Tang Zheng would always try to erase traces of Trojan Squad’s existence.
The Alien Species lasted less than five minutes before burning to nothing, bursting forth a Star Seed and an S-level alien Shield.
"Don’t divide it, you take it!" Lu Fan wouldn’t hear Tang Zheng’s protest, snatched the Shield and stuffed it into his Wristwatch.
Qin Yan and others also urged Tang Zheng to keep it, while Mu Nianqi simply shrugged her shoulders, indifferent.
"You don’t seem to care about Equipment?" Lu Fan was curious, not believing Queen Mu would be so generous.
"In Hero Mode, even an S-Level Shield is just good for a few more rounds of attacks. The strength of a fearless one relies not so much on equipment, which only accounts for thirty percent, but combat skills, experience, and real-time response are the comprehensive strengths that determine a strong individual." Mu Nianqi scanned everyone, speaking bluntly.
"Not necessarily, right?" Ruan Feifei disagreed, disliking Queen Mu’s self-assurance.
"In the Warhammer Squad, besides freaks like Tang Zheng, I’m most optimistic about Gu Xueqi. Her level isn’t high, but her intelligence is more than enough to compensate for everything else. With a bit of Luck, she is definitely the one who will live the longest, of course, Bai Guo is the most likely to die off first." Mu Nianqi glanced at the female anchor, "As for you, if you hadn’t been lucky enough to meet Tang Zheng, you’d already be dead."
"Bai Guo is very diligent!" Qin Yan frowned, sticking up for her young friend.
"Can hard work make up for the lack of skill? That’s merely consolation for the weak." Mu Nianqi didn’t deny the effects of diligence, but at a certain level, its degree of improvement is too marginal.
"Star Seed activation is the stimulation of the body’s potential. If we compare Bai Guo’s qualities to a bucket, then Gu Xueqi would be a lake—the difference is too great. Before both can fill their buckets, Natural Stupid can catch up, but once they overflow, the school beauty will leave her behind."
Mu Nianqi’s words were harsh, but no one could find a reason to refute them, so they turned their gaze to Gu Xueqi.
The school beauty remained calm, unfazed by praise or criticism. On some level, she had a lot of room for growth.
"Ladies and gentlemen, talent and potential are what’s most important!" Mu Nianqi liked the diligent Bai Guo, but unfortunately, in the Trojan World, there was no such thing as fairness; she was a grunt till death.
After taking care of the aftermath and resting briefly, Warhammer Squad hit the road again, arriving at the outskirts of the ruins by nightfall. For safety, Tang Zheng arranged for camping.
The Punishment Squad didn’t appear, and as the sky just began to lighten, Tang Zheng called everyone up and moved towards the ruins.
The ruins were a palace built underground. Before Tang Zheng and his party could enter, they saw a dozen mutilated Corpses, traces of bombardment everywhere. The Camel Thorns and Cactuses within a two-kilometer radius had been scorched, and the sand on the ground had turned into a molten glassy color—it was clear that a great battle had taken place.
"It looks like the work of Nuclear Flame’s abilities." Mu Nianqi frowned, knowing that their opponent, such a strong figure, made it hard to play the third party for advantage, possibly resulting in a total loss.
"You stay behind; everyone else goes in!" The entrance to the ruins was damaged and easy to find. Tang Zheng ordered the grandfather-grandson pair to stay behind, and all the rest to enter.
The newbies hesitated, unsure whether to proceed. Ruan Feifei and Pang Meiqin directly urged them on, grabbing the male newbies by the collars and throwing them in.
Tang Zheng held a tactical flashlight in his left hand and rested the rifle on his left arm, advancing slowly. The entire environment was oppressively tense.
Shen Qingshuang deployed the Scout Dragonfly, and the images it captured were relayed back to her wristwatch screen. Bai Guo’s ability was suitable for scouting, but being a bit of a natural ditz, there was a risk of her stumbling into traps.
Qin Yan and the Old Soldier took the lead. The defensive-type abilities would buy enough time to react to sudden situations.
The underground palace had been severely damaged, with cracks everywhere. Debris and dust from the ceiling kept falling, with the constant threat of collapse.
Nuclear Flame had indeed entered the ruins before the Warhammer Squad. Every so often, they could see traces of the Solar Fire melting the environment. Such potent devastation unsettled Sha Ou and the others.
"Stop, we’ve hit a fork," Shen Qingshuang called out to everyone, preparing to send the Mechanical Dragonfly ahead to scout. But with a fizz of electric current, the screen went black.
"All alert, we’ve got enemies!" Shen Qingshuang reacted quickly, whispering a warning and sending the rest of the dragonflies for support.
The enemy was more cunning than expected, lying in wait like a venomous snake, waiting for the prey to take the bait.
"Damn it, we’ve been spotted," Lu Fan felt frustrated. This meant they couldn’t play the cuckoo bird. "How about we take a different route? Following this path, we’ll definitely hit traps."
"It will delay us too much. Force our way through!" Mu Nianqi refused; Pang Meiqin made a face, about to say: If you’re not afraid, then lead the way, but Queen Mu had already moved to the front.
Queen Mu’s clone advanced swiftly with Qin Yan and the Old Soldier following on either side in a triangular formation, ready to support.
"Slow down, you two!" Tang Zheng, not reassured, summoned the Female Musketeer, following close behind the clone.
Boom! Suddenly, a violent tremor passed through the ruins; walls started to crumble, signaling that a battle was taking place in the depths.
If the enemy was cautious, they definitely wouldn’t have set an ambush right where the Mechanical Dragonfly had been destroyed, and they would have notified their companions.
"They’re probably laying an ambush about three-quarters of the way in!" Mu Nianqi gauged they had covered enough distance and alerted everyone.
"Why?" Sha Ou didn’t understand.
"Their goal should be to prevent the enemy from getting in the way. After destroying the Mechanical Dragonfly, they would inevitably move towards us. If they had companions, they would wait for them to arrive. Plus, conserving their strength and setting up the ambush, advancing a quarter of the way would be most appropriate." Tang Zheng roughly explained. In truth, a lot could be deduced from the enemy’s response; if they hadn’t done so and instead retreated, that would indicate they were not in a favorable position in battle.
Those slow to grasp Tang Zheng’s words were still thinking it through, while a battle had already erupted upfront.
As Mu Nianqi’s clone ran, her neck suddenly gushed with blood, followed by her head rolling away; the Female Musketeer met the same fate.
"Raise shields, be on guard!" Mu Nianqi hadn’t even seen the enemy’s attack, which made her all the more vigilant.
Qin Yan and the Old Soldier quickened their pace, wanting to rush through the distance, forcing the enemy to show themselves and potentially forming a pincer attack.
Tang Zheng quickly surveyed his surroundings, memorizing the environment. He wasn’t overly concerned. The enemy had struck first to gain the upper hand, killing the leading scouts instead of waiting to target the most valuable ones. This indicated their mission was to delay, and their numbers were likely few.
Qin Yan drew her handgun and fired flares. The ghastly white light filled the passage. The enemy didn’t appear, but the attack came regardless. Her shadow, like a venomous snake, sprang into action and slashed towards her neck. (To be continued.
