Chapter 1262: Chapter 16 Chaos and Accidental Injury

Lin Weiguo blocked the path of the wild cat, while Tang Zheng stretched out his long arm, grabbing at its neck.

The wild cat landed, rolled swiftly, and climbed up, but before it could dash away, Tang Zheng caught it squarely and lifted it into the air.

"Now, how many souls are you planning to take?" Seeing the wild cat struggle, Tang Zheng shook his wrist, and its orbits started swirling like a mosquito coil.

The newbies had never seen a talking cat before, and seeing that it posed no danger, they all gathered around, while the Conquerors remained calm, always wary of their surroundings.

"Respected lord, I am just a poor cat passing by, please spare me!" After failing to escape, the wild cat took off its hat, held it to its chest, bowed, and extended a gentlemanly greeting with its two big, tearful eyes pleadingly looking up at Tang Zheng.

"I’ve been needing a new pair of gloves, and your fur seems quite nice, how about I make a pair out of it?" Tang Zheng pulled out a dagger, pressing it against the wild cat’s belly.

"Smell me, I stink, I would dirty your hands, milord!" The wild cat said with a grimace, extending its furry paws towards Tang Zheng.

Smack, Teng Yuangxiang slapped away the cat’s paws—who knows whether the wild cat had some weird method of killing? It was better to keep a distance.

"Alright, I’ll give you the map out of the forest!" The wild cat reached into the torn pocket hanging on its waist and suddenly grabbed a handful of black dust, throwing it towards Tang Zheng’s eyes.

Tang Zheng was on his guard, and seeing this, he swung his arm, preparing to slam it to the ground.

"Don’t, I surrender!" At a height of less than a centimeter from the ground, the wild cat stopped, looking at the dry leaves, smelling the earth, it sighed in relief, but soon Lin Weiguo took over, pressing it into the dry leaves and stripping off the small bag.

Sand dust for squinting, a blood-stained sharp rock that obviously had smashed some unlucky guy’s head, and a piece of moldy rotten cheese—the wild cat truly had nothing.

"Don’t kill me, I can lead you out of this forest," the wild cat appeasingly looked at Tang Zheng, continuously begging for mercy; this guy had some insight, knowing who the group leader was.

"We’ve lost two companions, can you find them?" Lu Taijiang was directly ignored by Tang Zheng.

"I am a cat, not a dog, I like fish and gold coins, I don’t track people!" The wild cat continued to babble, being pressed by Lin Weiguo into the soil again, and when pulled up, it behaved.

The wild cat was disarmed, its hands tied behind, and was led by the Old Soldier to clear the way.

"Why do you want souls?" Because of her abilities, Jing Lan was very interested in this topic.

"Taxes, this is the territory of the Ghost Bride, every month, every subject must hand over a portion of a soul, otherwise, they’ll be eaten. To survive, we have no choice but to target passing travelers!" The wild cat lay on the ground, sniffed, "Go this way, the forest is enchanted, ordinary people can’t leave at all, they will sooner or later have their souls sucked by the servants of the Ghost Bride."

The wild cat’s words made everyone glance at each other, but after experiencing the Magic Mirror and the Cyclops, no one treated it as a joke, and morale dropped.

"What do the servants look like?" Tao Tao asked worryingly, apparently she stepped on some sort of bone.

"You’ve already seen them!" The wild cat shrugged its shoulders, and while everyone was puzzled, a bone arm, resembling a snake striking, shot out from the ground, grabbed Tao Tao’s ankle, and furiously yanked her down.

Ruan Feifei leaped forward, kicking the arm and breaking it, while Gu Xueqi snapped her fingers, launching a spark that exploded mid-air, turning into a phoenix the size of a fist, which burst open a skeleton head just emerging from the ground.

Crash, crash, like bamboo shoots after a spring rain, scores of Skeleton Warriors, armed with round shields and short swords, rapidly emerged from the ground, attacking the survivors en masse, with numbers reaching into the thousands, crowding the area densely, leaving no gaps.

The newbies completely panicked, especially a few who were grabbed by the ankles, overwhelmed with fear.

"Newbies close up, remove the skeletons from our ranks, Conquerors establish the outer defense, Brother Lin, Meiqin, take the lead, Dantai Squad, Mu Nianqi, cover the rear, Qin Yan Squad, defend the right, Xin Lan Squad, defend the left, Gu Xueqi, you and Song Xin provide support from the middle!" Tang Zheng kicked aside a nearby skeleton, pulled out the Terminator Machine Gun, and unleashed a barrage of bullets, but the bullets, as if going through air, passed through the skeletons without causing any damage.

"Only melee weapons work, ranged attacks are immune!" Mu Nianqi’s reminder floated above the team; her Devil Flame Pistol was also ineffective.

"I’ve got this!" Pang Meiqin grabbed the Demon Ripper, and with a horizontal slash, several Skeleton Warriors rushing towards her were cut in half at the waist, falling to the ground. Like taking the head of a commander in the midst of an army, she carved a passageway through the Skeleton Group, with bone fragments flying everywhere.

These lifeless creatures, even if only their upper halves remained, still desperately swung their weapons, slashing at their enemies.

Two female university students fell in terror, unable to run into the defensive circle quickly enough, and were knocked down by the skeletons. Thanks to their Primary Protective Clothing, they didn’t die.

"Don’t panic!" A short-haired male student, wielding a war axe, was remarkably fierce, actually taking the initiative to rescue them.

Several skeletons approached, and the remaining one slashed at the neck of the female student, her head rolling away. The short-haired male, lacking combat skills, was merely swinging the war axe wildly with brute force. He didn’t notice that the skeletons cut down to the ground weren’t dead, which resulted in his ankle being injured when they struck back, distorting his movement. Taking this opportunity, other skeletons rushed forward, ready to chop him to pieces.

Ten little phoenixes screeched out, striking the skeletons precisely and spreading instantly to burn them completely into ash. The purifying lotus flames cleansed all sins and filth—it was the bane of demonic creatures.

"What are you dazing off for? Get back here!" Gu Xueqi had quite the captain’s demeanor, far stronger than Xu Biyun.

The man with short hair sighed and limped back to the team. He ultimately couldn’t save his classmate, and during the delay, another female student lay dead on the spot.

"These monsters are immune to magic and ranged attacks. Only melee can kill them!" Wild cat didn’t think of escaping; she ran over to Lin Weiguo immediately, clutching his collar tightly.

Tang Zheng’s Moon Blades flew out, creating six pathways like the arms of a fan. He charged in like a war chariot, brutally plowing through and leaving a trail of bone fragments.

"Still harboring resentment? Look, if it weren’t for us, do you think you could survive this kind of attack?" Teng Yuangxiang mocked the university students. "Even if Mu Nianqi is strong, she is just one person. Without a team, she would die too. Here, survival depends on listening to Tang Zheng."

Most students remained silent, accepting the fact, but Teng Little Three’s words made some rebellious boys even more uncomfortable, deepening their hatred for her and Tang Zheng.

Although the battle was chaotic, it wasn’t dangerous. Tang Zheng and two others cleared a path, charging out twenty meters. The skeleton soldiers weren’t foolish either and kept close on their tails, elongating the battle line and continuously besieging them.

Whiz, whiz, two Gravity Bombs grazed a skeleton’s head, shooting towards Teng Yuangxiang.

"Shen Qingshuang? What are you doing?" Like a cat that had its tail stepped on, Teng Little Three bristled, sweat pouring down. If not for her quick reaction, her head would have burst open from that hit.

The others also shifted their gazes over.

"Sorry, that was a mistake." Shen Qingshuang apologized, still wielding her Level A Tang Sword and felling a skeleton.

"I told you ranged attacks are useless, what are you firing for?" Teng Yuangxiang was just complaining. She wasn’t really going to challenge Shen Qingshuang over this minor issue. Besides, Shen Qingshuang had a good standing within the team, as An Fei and Xu Liangmao promptly stepped in to speak well of him.

"Be careful next time!" Teng Yuangxiang threw herself back into fighting, wanting to kill more skeleton soldiers while they were weak and score more points.

"What’s that sound? Cavalry?" Before they could finish off the skeleton group, Lin Weiguo heard the thundering hooves.

"How can there be cavalry in the forest?" Ruan Feifei found it somewhat ridiculous, but she glanced toward the sound and froze.

An entire knight group of three hundred spurred their warhorses, holding lances in a V formation, charging forward. They were ghosts, translucent like smoke, passing through the dark forest.

"Biyun, puppet, others fall back!" Tang Zheng and his armed compatriots immediately stood on the front line. There was no time to deploy the Steel Sky or the Kai Cavalry—they had to withstand it.

Tang Zheng entered a frenzied state, pulling out his Chainsaw Knife, swinging it like swatting flies at the approaching knights.

Bang, a knight was struck, and together with his warhorse, was thrown backward. The war marshal’s warhammer also toppled a group, curtailing the momentum of the cavalry charge.

Metallic alloy liquid flowed from Lin Weiguo’s Wristwatch, enveloping his body in a glowing brilliance, resembling a steel beast. With a single punch, he exploded the head of a horse in front of him.

The riding cavalry cleverly diverted, charging past from both sides. The Conquerors tried their best to stop them, but still, six horses broke through into the team.

About a dozen unlucky university students were knocked over, and three were even worse off. As soon as they fell, they watched helplessly as horse hooves crushed their heads and bodies, fracturing their bones and killing them.

"Who the hell fired that shot?" Teng Yuangxiang got hit by a Gravity Ball, losing a chunk of her left leg, blood and flesh a mess. "Shen Qingshuang, was it you again?"

"Not this time, it was Li Xinlan!" Shen Qingshuang quickly clarified.

"Sorry, I didn’t mean to!" Li Xinlan explained in a cold, indifferent tone.

"Damn it!" Teng Yuangxiang muttered under her breath, not daring to swear out loud. She knew of the woman’s relationship with Tang Zheng and didn’t dare provoke her, but she started to suspect and grow wary. Why was it that every misfire targeted her?

It wasn’t just Teng Little Three who was hit; Jing Xiang was also struck.

"Sorry, I was just trying to help block the knights for you!" An Fei apologized profusely, pleading for Jing Xiang’s forgiveness.

"It’s okay!" Jing Xiang, more experienced than An Fei yet unfortunately too meek, had been hurt but only harbored resentment inwardly, not daring to voice it.
