Chapter 1217: Chapter 86: Chasing Crossfire

Watching the departing Chevrolet, Tang Zheng waited again; this time, even Kong Licheng didn’t dare to respond. Everyone kept silent.

The two who seemed like Eastern Europeans didn’t attack or slow down. They fled like quails that had their courage shattered, desperately seeking escape.

"Huang Long, catch up," Tang Zheng’s expression turned solemn. Regardless of the situation, the opponent was a formidable enemy, and he had to be prepared for various countermeasures.

The middle-aged driver didn’t have time to wipe the sweat from his forehead as he focused on the road, fearing that a careless move might lead to a collision with other vehicles.

"Group Leader, you were right; they really came after us again. These people are very cautious," the grenade-toting man turned to look at the trailing Greyhound bus and howled his praise for the leader. "Amazing, they are being played like puppets on a string."

"Quit babbling and find a chance to leave. Lipstick, because of her ability, can blend in, but what about you? Do you want to get caught in the crossfire?" The Curl-tongue Captain was very dissatisfied with the grenade man’s behavior. He hadn’t followed the plan to leave; after all, he held a Howling Reaper. It would be a great loss if he died.

"If it weren’t for grenade’s cover, I might already be dead," Lipstick pleaded on behalf of her partner. Then, the car shook violently as the rear window was shattered by a bullet that penetrated it and cracked the windshield as well.

The shattered glass shards scattered everywhere, and some lodged in the face of the grenade man, with blood flying.

"What happened?" The Curl-tongue Captain, in pursuit of the American team leader, heard a low exclamation over the walkie-talkie, along with the sound of tires suddenly changing direction and scraping the ground. He promptly inquired, "Under attack?"

"Are these guys insane? How will they find out about Eve’s whereabouts if they kill us?" The grenade man muttered as he emerged through the car’s sunroof and sprayed a barrage of gunfire towards the bus sixty meters away.

Bullets whizzed by like fireflies on a summer riverbank, affecting some cars, which dodged to the sides, with those less skilled hitting objects.

"Get down," Tang Zheng, who had been monitoring the situation closely, yelled. The newbies ducked in unison, with even Huang Long taking a crouched position.

The rattling of bullets that flew past hit the metal sides of the car, clinking and pinging, and a few struck the windshield, creating spider-web cracks. Bullets also flew inside the carriage, but luckily, everyone had ducked in time, and no one was hurt.

"What do we do? We’re going to get shot," Huang Long moved his eyes to glance at the bullet holes, his legs trembling non-stop. He feared the next round of bullets would end his life; he didn’t believe he had the courage to dodge every time.

"Don’t worry, they won’t have the chance to shoot comfortably anymore. Besides, with such high speed, it’s not easy to aim accurately," Tang Zheng wanted to follow the Chevrolet to find out Eve’s location. However, there was another method—capturing a captive for interrogation.

It was clear that Lipstick and grenade were experienced in actual combat and had blood on their hands. Even if Kong Licheng faced them alone, he wouldn’t stand a chance; it was better to kill them in advance. Moreover, Tang Zheng coveted their weapons, capturing them in advance to arm his team was absolutely necessary.

Upon hearing his team members’ reports, the Curl-tongue Captain also thought of this solution and cursed himself for the oversight. He urged them to speed up to lead the target towards the bait.

"This is so frustrating." The grenade man clearly had the chance to blow up the bus, killing a few newbies, but it was already too late. Tang Zheng began firing, bullets coming in waves, suppressing them from raising their heads.

"Don’t be disheartened. Let them wear each other down and then we make our move. We’re approaching the subway station. You’d better get lost and regroup with the Group Leader," Lipstick heard the intel from her partner over the walkie-talkie, scolding grenade to "act more convincingly."

"Be careful then." Grenade felt the car slowing down. He didn’t waste time, opened the door, and started shooting. Then, at the best jumping point, he pretended to lose his grip and tumbled out of the Chevrolet.

"You guys kill that man." Tang Zheng didn’t even glance over, his attention undivided, as he furiously attacked the Chevrolet. He didn’t want to waste his powerful ammunition, but even ordinary bullets, enhanced by the Howling Reaper, had a terrifyingly strong attack. The tail of the Chevrolet was left battered and torn, then burst into flames with a loud explosion.

"Faster!" Lipstick had the accelerator floored. If it weren’t for the training she had received and driving skills comparable to a professional racing driver, she would’ve been turned into a fireball by now. Despite this, seeing the Chevrolet getting hit frequently made her heart icy cold.

Dong Zixuan and the others immediately aimed and shot at the grenade man. He sprang up after several rolls due to inertia and dashed towards the nearby supermarket, thirty meters away. The heavy foot traffic there made it easy for him to dodge among the pedestrians.

The policewoman accidentally shot an ordinary person, the bullet tearing away half of his stomach, lying on the ground wailing in agony. This unexpected incident caused her to instinctively stop firing.

Kong Licheng and the traffic police did not hesitate, continuously firing and bringing down many people. Under their leadership, other newbies also shot at the grenade man. The number of unintentional casualties quickly reached twenty, mingling screams of agony with gunshots, like a living hell.

"No use, can’t hit him," Rong He complained. The speed of the bus quickly overtook grenade before he entered the supermarket, increasing the distance and making it even harder to aim.

"Tao Ran, fire the rocket shells at the Chevrolet," Tang Zheng swung his muzzle, shooting at the grenadier who was stepping onto the platform stairs.

Although the Howling Reaper was a machine gun, with suppressive firepower, it was also equipped with Level A prop, its accuracy not to be underestimated, with negligible recoil.

Citizens in front of the supermarket, after being strafed, were either lying on the ground to take cover or had already scattered and fled. Tang Zheng’s field of vision was exceptionally broad as he shot at the grenadier who was running up the stairs with large strides.

Bullets whizzed past, smashing the steps to pieces, sending shards of rock flying everywhere.

The grenadier pursed his lips, evading according to the tactical maneuvers he learned in the military, narrowly escaping danger. Just as he stepped onto the platform, seven meters from the main entrance of the market, a bullet hit his arm.

Bang, the grenadier felt a pain in his arm and saw it explode, flesh splattering everywhere. Then his vest was hit by another bullet, and his view suddenly elevated and spun. He saw his own lower half severed at the waist. After running a few more steps, he collapsed to the ground.

The upper half of the grenadier’s body skidded far across the smooth floor, leaving behind a streak of blood.

"Huang Long, open the car door, Liu Guohao, go pick up the gun, it’s yours," Tang Zheng’s voice had just fallen, and the door had just opened when Kong Licheng had already jumped out without a word. After being rejected by Tang Zheng, he had thought of capture; he would not entrust his life to someone else’s promise.

"This guy is too selfish, always looking out for his own interests, disobeying orders and acting on his own," Xiu Yingjie complained loudly, rallying more support for Tang Zheng.

"You grab a car quickly and catch up," Tang Zheng yelled into the walkie-talkie, and Kong Licheng had one too.

"Don’t worry, it won’t take much time," Kong Licheng assured, and he also dared not stay away for too long. Alone, his chances of survival were not great.

By the time Tang Zheng aimed at the Chevrolet, there was no opportunity to shoot anymore. Lipstick performed a beautiful drift, parking the car at the entrance of the subway station, disturbing the nearby crowd, turning it into chaos, panicked people scattering to avoid.

Lipstick opened the car door, with a package on her back, jumped out, and sprinted into the subway station while also opening fire, creating further panic among the pedestrians to slow down her pursuers.

"Zixuan, traffic police, Dong Tao, Rong He, Zhao Xiong, Qin San, Zhuo Yijie, Qian Wen, Xiu Yingjie, you chase with me, others follow orders," Tang Zheng called names rapidly. As Huang Long stopped the bus, he jumped down. No one hesitated, and Rong He even shouted, "For the points, kill them all," charging in second place, now brimming with confidence.

Tang Zheng sprinted down the steps, seeing Lipstick Girl halfway turn, raising her muzzle towards him, he fired first. The unlucky natives beside her were hit squarely, turning into corpses, but Tang Zheng no longer had the luxury to care.

Lipstick Girl was even more ferocious than Tang Zheng. Seeing that the subway had not yet arrived, she took cover behind a pillar, slipped her hand into the backpack behind her, and when she drew it out again, she was holding an AT-4 rocket launcher. Flashing out of cover, she fired at Tang Zheng.

Tang Zheng pushed off with his ankle, lunging to the side with all his might. The rocket shell with an orange-red tail smashed into the ground, sending shrapnel flying in all directions. The chasing team behind him was thrown into disarray – although not hit by the blast, the shockwave of the explosion still left them shaken and terrified.

Lipstick, holding an AK74, specifically suppressed Tang Zheng. In her eyes, other newbies were nothing but trash, disposable at any moment, but this guy was tough to deal with, she had to hold out until the subway arrived.

"Lipstick, be careful, the grenadier is dead," the Curl-tongue Captain’s voice had a chilling tone. He had already given up on chasing the American team leader, that guy was slipperier than an eel, managing to escape even with serious injuries. Meanwhile, here the plan wasn’t even fully implemented when they had lost a powerful new member, and a Howling Reaper to boot, which grieved him immensely. He gritted his teeth in anger; evidently, plotting against the team leader had its price.

"I know," Lipstick responded, her expression grim as she opened another walkie-talkie. Before she could speak, hasty shouts erupted.

"Natasha, where did you go?"

"I ran into a group of Chinese, and they’re after me," Lipstick’s voice became sharp, deceiving her ’teammates.’ "The walkie-talkie was damaged, I just found a new one."

"Where are you now?" the one speaking was a man who adored Natasha.

"I’m at the subway station," Lipstick casually reported a station name. "Where are you guys?"

"What a coincidence, we’re on the subway; wait, I can see the platform already," the man sounded excited. "You’re really lucky."
