Chapter 1209: Chapter 81: Fight
"When we get back, I’ll give you a Roaring Death Machine Gun, and you can distribute the ammunition to others," Tang Zheng said to Tao Ran, frowning. Black Long Straight still hadn’t kicked the interface out.
"What’s going on? Isn’t it working because you didn’t hit it hard enough?" Black Long Straight had followed Tang Zheng’s instructions, but the vending machine showed no response.
Tang Zheng patted it again, but it still had no effect.
"Could there be a usage limit?" Rong He rubbed his stomach. Although it was painless, he always felt something was off.
"I guess so." Tang Zheng sighed in disappointment. It looked like his plan to bring the newbies to buy equipment fell through. "Alright, let’s head back and wait."
Tao Ran was very disappointed, and Rong He kept pestering Tang Zheng, asking about what kind of firearms the Howling Reaper was.
Susan, looking around nervously, suddenly stopped and grabbed Tang Zheng’s clothing.
"What is it?" Tang Zheng turned around and saw a hesitant expression on Susan’s face as she covertly glanced at the nearby McDonald’s.
Tang Zheng’s brow furrowed slightly as he followed her gaze and immediately noticed two men who attracted his attention. They were extremely cautious—one buying food and the other standing at the door pretending not to care but continuously sweeping the area with his eyes.
"Do you know them?" Tang Zheng immediately guessed the reason and shielded Susan with his body, not wanting his compatriot to be seen by his mates.
"Yeah, I have some recollection that they were soldiers," Susan licked her lips and finally spoke, "Can I go talk to them?"
Even though Tang Zheng was amiable, being with a group of strangers from China made Susan feel alienated and lonely. Though the compatriots were also strangers, she still yearned to return.
"Of course, you can." Tang Zheng’s pupil contracted imperceptibly, effectively hiding his hostility. He remembered at the laboratory when this girl did not lend a hand but only cared about escaping herself.
"Thank you." Susan thanked him and was about to call out to her companions when Tang Zheng quickly covered her mouth.
Susan’s eyes widened in puzzled fear.
"Don’t worry, I won’t kill you. I just think it’s reckless to approach them without confirming their identities, which might lead to danger. Let me help you confirm their identities first?" Tang Zheng said with a smile. He knew it was futile to ask Susan to keep a secret; even if the group leader was a fool, he would ask why she was alive. Sooner or later, everyone’s details would definitely be exposed. Besides, asking Susan to lead the way was clearly out of the question.
Susan shook her head in refusal, sensing something ominous.
"Rong He, keep an eye on her. If necessary, be ruthless," Tang Zheng whispered into Rong He’s ear, put down three gift bags, and after making sure there were no vehicles around, he ran across the street and followed the two large, imposing American soldiers who hurriedly left with a lot of food.
Tang Zheng quickly followed them, not minding orchestrating a major cleanse if he could find their hideout.
The two soldiers were very cautious, frequently looking back. Tang Zheng kept his head down, not daring to blatantly watch them, only occasionally lifting his eyelids to keep an eye on their figures.
"Buying food? They must be based nearby. Is their target also Eve?" Tang Zheng switched on the walkie-talkie, and amidst the buzzing of the electric current, he called Dong Zixuan. He had bought this communication equipment long ago.
"What’s up?" Dong Zixuan, who was leading her team cautiously forward, asked confusedly.
"Be careful, you might encounter members of the American Team," Tang Zheng paused. The two soldiers, no matter which team they were in, definitely had combat power. Thus, if they were out buying dinner now, it only suggested they had succeeded, "No, in that case, they should have left early and delivered it to Simpson to complete the mission."
"Got it," Dong Zixuan, who had superpowers, was somewhat conceited.
"Let Nie Jianhua lead the way, and try not to get your elite harmed," Tang Zheng reminded again. Thinking about these wasn’t necessary; following the soldiers would clarify everything.
"Don’t worry about it. I need to focus now," Dong Zixuan ended the communication.
"Conceited woman, even if you have abilities, it wouldn’t be hard for me to kill you," Tang Zheng was not boasting. Any Fourth Order Group Leader had this kind of confidence, not just because of their strength but also because their IQs were not low. Of course, no group leader would be foolish enough to fight a survivor who had activated their superpowers in direct combat.
Following the two soldiers and observing their anxious behavior, Tang Zheng figured something out.
"Could it be that all the ordinary people are dead, leaving only some soldiers?"
Tang Zheng’s guess was not far off. In the previous survival scenarios, the ordinary members of the American Team had dwindled significantly, while the soldiers, having been trained and commanded by the group leader, had survived in greater numbers. Now going after Eve, the group leader had only taken ten people, knowing too many would risk exposure.
The two soldiers passed through a parking lot and turned into an alley. Tang Zheng ran after them, only to find the alley empty, save for a blue dumpster with a cloud of flies buzzing around it.
"Damn it!" Tang Zheng instinctively retreated, drew his gun, and looked up.
A figure stood up from behind the dumpster, holding an M92F and staring at Tang Zheng, while another jumped down from the roof, blocking his retreat.
"Don’t move, or I’ll kill you," the soldier in front of him threatened fiercely, tilting his chin, "Drop the gun. Now tell me, why were you following us?"
