Chapter 1204: Chapter 77: Lava Scorching
A powerful force knocked Li Wenbo over. If it weren’t for the parasite’s modification of his body, that impact could have broken his spine.
"Use the AT-4!" Tang Zheng roared, and Tao Ran, who had been paying attention to the situation here, immediately pulled the trigger.
Boom, a rocket shell exploded beside Li Wenbo, and at that moment, Zhao Dongtao and the others also killed the long-haired girl, picked up AT-4s, and focused fire on the tumbling male police officer.
Limping, Tang Zheng ran to the side and rolled away; he certainly didn’t want to be blown up by his own people. After sitting up straight, he immediately tore off his pant leg and tied it near his knee to stop the bleeding.
The sound of explosions continued as Zhou Meng and his group joined the attack, the machine guns firing constantly, causing stone splatter.
"I’ve lost so much blood, yet I don’t feel dizzy. Could it be the effect of that reagent?" Tang Zheng knew his body well. He wiped off the blood stains on his body and found that although the pain had not lessened, the wound was healing, and his physical strength hadn’t worn down by half as he had expected.
The two viruses had evolved into a new virus and were also transforming Tang Zheng’s body. Due to his injuries, the virus’s self-protection mechanism was activated, accelerating the fusion with his genes. From this point, Tang Zheng’s self-healing ability, physical strength, body durability, and the efficiency of his various organs began to slowly improve.
If Tang Zheng’s body had once been a regular car engine, it was now evolving toward a jet engine and even more durable.
The flames from the explosions engulfed Li Wenbo, and the newbies stopped shooting, thinking they had killed him.
Tang Zheng didn’t think it would be that easy. He ran toward the bus to get weapons, while Song Xin and Tao Ran, seeing his body covered in wounds, cried out in distress and wanted to help him but were rejected.
"Start the Hummer, and evacuate quickly," Tang Zheng reminded everyone, but then he heard an angry roar.
"All of you go to hell." Li Wenbo, charred all over, smoke billowing from his body with his hair still burning, emerged from the smoke, glowering at the survivors. The continuous explosions had embedded shrapnel into its body, and its right arm was gone.
The newbies were shocked, while Zhou Meng shouted at them to shoot.
Bullets hit Li Wenbo but couldn’t repel him.
"I see, you were fighting me to buy time, damn it, are you underestimating my IQ?" Li Wenbo roared maniacally as he watched the newbies kill the zombies and gather together, "You’re all going to die!"
Li Wenbo began a zigzag sprint, pulled out the straight knife lodged in his eye socket, and shot it out. This time he changed tactics and decided to kill the weaker ones first.
Zshoo, the knife whizzed past a miner’s forehead, causing him to flinch and accidentally turn the vehicle-mounted machine gun he was operating, firing wildly and nearly injuring his own people.
The newbies, startled by the stray bullets, had just calmed down when they saw Li Wenbo rushing at them, having covered half the distance.
Everyone unleashed their firepower trying to take down Li Wenbo. The stump of its right arm suddenly swelled, forming a solid meat shield that blocked the incoming bullets.
"Keep going." Xiu Yingjie passed an AT-4 to Tang Zheng to ease the relationship between them.
Tang Zheng caught it, and after Zhao Dongtao and Zhou Meng drew Li Wenbo’s meat shield aside with their rocket shells, Tang Zheng aimed for its head.
Bang, the rocket shell exploded on its head, shattering its skull, but the headless body kept running. Its back split open suddenly, revealing six tentacles over three meters long, covered in suckers, flailing wildly.
This level of firepower wasn’t enough to kill Li Wenbo. The drivers of the three Hummers started the engines, trying to escape, while the newbies, like ants scalded by boiling water, scattered in a frantic escape.
Bang, Li Wenbo leaped onto a Hummer.
The miner operating the machine gun fired furiously to no avail; instead, he was smashed to a pulp by the meat shield. Half of his body fell into the carriage, terrifying the people inside.
"Hehe, you can’t escape!" Li Wenbo laughed hideously. The flesh buds on his neck writhed, growing an ugly triangular head. Its body, like a boneless squid, wriggled from the roof into the carriage and began its massacre of the newbies inside.
Thud, thud, the people only saw tentacles swinging, and the two newbies inside burst like popped balloons, their blood and broken flesh splattering on the car window.
"Save me!" Chen Kang, his face stricken with terror, opened the car door and jumped out. Tao Ran, seeing the gory mess inside the carriage as the door opened, and a mutilated body mixed with meat sauce spilling down, was overwhelmed by the stench of blood.
"Run!" Tang Zheng wanted to rescue his classmate and took an AT-4 from Tao Ran with one hand, but before he could attack, two tentacles shot out, wrapping around Chen Kang’s neck and armature, dragging him back inside the carriage.
The suckers on the tentacles grew tiny thorns that penetrated Chen Kang’s skin, exerting a forceful suction, like a greedy evil spirit. In just a few seconds, his classmate’s body shriveled up, turning into skin and bones.
Li Wenbo started the Hummer and crashed it hard into another, tossing Chen Kang’s body under the tires, grinding it into three pieces.
"Run fast." Tang Zheng, holding Dong Zixuan, sprinted toward the gas station, seeing Li Wenbo chase the others; he gave up on shooting.
Enraged, Li Wenbo had intended to kill everyone, but when he saw Tang Zheng and Dong Zixuan about to escape, he immediately turned the car around and chased after them.
"He’s catching up, what do we do?" Zhang Antai, lagging behind, gasped for air like a bellows, nearly coughing out his lungs; he simply couldn’t run anymore. If Li Wenbo caught up, he would be the first to suffer.
"You all run, Dong Tao, take her!" Tang Zheng handed Dong Zixuan over to Zhao Dongtao, then turned back to fire a rocket shell.
Boom, it hit the Hummer, turning it into a fireball. Li Wenbo leaped out, rushing toward them with a thick scent of blood and a rank odor.
Tang Zheng threw aside the rocket launcher and charged at Li Wenbo.
"Tang Zheng!" Song Xin despaired, wanting to stay behind with Tang Zheng, but was dragged away by Tao Ran, "Let’s go get the rocket launcher."
"Quickly!" Zhao Dongtao really wanted to ditch Dong Zixuan to fight for a car and then come back to the fight, but since Tang Zheng had instructed to take her with him, he couldn’t disappoint his old classmate. Seeing his good friend being sent flying by Li Wenbo’s tentacle, his Yazi were nearly splitting.
Tang Zheng dodged and fired single shots at Li Wenbo’s heart, but the bullets were blocked by the tentacles.
"Dong Zixuan, if you don’t wake up now, I’m really going to die." Tang Zheng wasn’t a ruthless person; otherwise, using the newbie as bait, he could have made it to the gas station in time. Once on the Hummer, with his driving skills, the monster Li Wenbo could only eat dust. But he just couldn’t do it.
"I’m still too soft-hearted." The gap in power left Tang Zheng with almost no good options, only able to delay for a bit of time, after all, it was noon, and Dong Zixuan could wake up at any moment.
The tentacle struck the ground so hard it cracked the cement. Tang Zheng rolled a few times but was still entangled by the ankle, like a leech sucking blood, first a sharp pain then blood being drawn away.
Bang, the tentacle pulled up Tang Zheng and slammed him into the ground hard. Tang Zheng spat out a mouthful of blood, feeling his bones were about to shatter.
"Hmph, I won’t suck your blood, I’m going to kill you alive." It seemed that draining Tang Zheng dry at once was not enough torture, so Li Wenbo swung his tentacle, repeatedly smashing Tang Zheng into the ground.
At first, Tang Zheng was able to use his arms to resist, but after more than a dozen hits, his left arm broke, his skin cracked, and his blood spilled all over the ground; he almost lost consciousness.
"Still putting up a fight!" Li Wenbo laughed heartily, finding great pleasure in the situation. Just as he was about to strike a fierce blow, a swath of hot lava like a tsunami swept over.
The intense heat suddenly made Li Wenbo realize something was wrong. As he moved to dodge and was about to throw Tang Zheng into the lava for a roast, the ground near Tang Zheng erupted like a volcano, spewing out a stream of lava, which cut through his tentacle.
"What the hell is that?" Li Wenbo was shocked and confused as he looked toward the incoming figure of the valiant policewoman, who, with a sweep of her arms, superheated the ground into flowing magma that surged toward Li Wenbo.
"Li Wenbo, it’s your time to die!" Dong Zixuan saw the monstrous Li Wenbo and felt nauseous, especially after learning that he had killed many people. Her face turned so dark, it seemed like ink could drip from it.
"Cough cough, you’re finally awake. I guess my luck’s not too bad," Tang Zheng said, lying on the ground and breathing a sigh of relief, before coughing up more blood. His body was fractured in multiple places, and his left hand was twisted at an odd angle.
The moment she woke up, the seed had imprinted the legacy of her powers into Dong Zixuan’s mind. Though not very skilled yet, killing Li Wenbo was no big deal. The rest area became like an active volcanic zone as lava spewed non-stop from the ground below, scalding Li Wenbo until half his body was charred black.
"Watch out, it’s trying to escape," Tang Zheng saw Li Wenbo focusing on defense and cautioned Dong Zixuan.
"Got it!" Dong Zixuan unleashed her ultimate ability, fearlessly charging at Li Wenbo. The hot magma that had already surfaced gathered into a ten-meter-high wave, completely blocking Li Wenbo’s path of retreat, and the ground beneath his feet also began to erupt with lava.
Li Wenbo failed to dodge and got hit directly, screaming in agonizing pain from the searing burns.
"Dong Zixuan, I’m going to kill you," Li Wenbo’s strong regenerative abilities and resistance to blows were of little use against magma that approached thousands of degrees.
"Hmph, scum!" Dong Zixuan was about to use a lava tide when Tang Zheng stopped her.
"Make a pool of magma and throw him into it." With his broad experience, Tang Zheng immediately thought of the most efficient way to kill.
Dong Zixuan’s eyes lit up, and she did as instructed. The ground within a five-meter radius beneath Li Wenbo melted, hissing with steam.
Li Wenbo fought like a cornered beast, wailing like a beaten dog, but by now, no one was listening. Dong Zixuan rushed toward the badly injured Tang Zheng.
"Are you okay?" Dong Zixuan said, seeing Tang Zheng’s miserable state and her eyelids twitching.
"Do you think I’m okay? If you hadn’t woken up, I would have been finished. Hey, don’t touch me, my bones are broken," Tang Zheng lay on the ground, not daring to move; any unnecessary motion would only slow his recovery.
"What about Zhou Meng and the others? Are they all dead?" Dong Zixuan, seeing only Tang Zheng alone against the monster, buying time for everyone else to escape, felt that he was a true man.
