Chapter 1195: Chapter 70: Death and Resurrection
The morning sunlight drizzled over the small town’s street, casting a warm golden hue. Yet, to the survivors under the tyranny of the tyrant’s pursuit, it felt like plunging into an icy cave. As the carnage spread, the air began to mingle with the stench of blood.
The middle-aged driver nudged the brim of his duckbill cap with his finger, then blew a whistle in the style of a Western cowboy while holding his assault rifle level, aiming at the silhouette of someone in frantic retreat.
Pop pop, a precise single shot, two bullets entered Xiao Hu’s back skull, shattering half of his head, splattering white brain pulp on the street. The headless corpse stumbled forward a few steps and fell, rolling around covered in dust.
Because Xiao Hu was wearing a police uniform, he became the primary target of attack.
"Pathetic," the middle-aged driver scoffed disdainfully. He had initially thought the guy had some capability.
Whiz, whiz, several bullets shot past the driver. He immediately ducked behind the truck, then aimed and returned fire at Kong Licheng. This man was indeed fierce; he didn’t run away as the tyrant chased others but instead rushed into a house a few dozen meters away and started shooting from behind a window.
"Hand over the refrigerated container, and I might spare your lives," the driver shouted. Bullets hit the window, sending wood chips flying and forcing Kong Licheng to duck, keeping him from raising his head. He quickly shifted his gun’s muzzle and aimed at a man about to rush into the house, hitting him in the back.
The traffic police and He Lian managed to escape from the tyrant and launched an attack, but even though they hit, the bullets couldn’t possibly harm it.
"What should we do?" He Lian gasped for air, contemplating escape. This monster was simply beyond human ability to resist; it could easily kill all survivors.
"Go hijack a car, use an anti-tank missile against it," the traffic police gritted his teeth and ran into the house, preparing to jump out through a window.
Uncle Wang and Ding Jian, who had gotten up late, were shocked by everything they saw on Main Street. They grabbed rifles and began shooting at the stranger behind the truck.
"What refrigerated container? We don’t have one; you must be mistaken," Kong Licheng yelled, utterly frustrated.
"Won’t hand it over? Then die!" The middle-aged man, a special agent, had been dispatched to handle matters following Ada’s failed mission and seize the virus strain. For a surefire completion of the mission, his superiors even assigned a tyrant under his command.
"We really don’t have it." Kong Licheng changed his ammo clip. Just as he showed his head, it was suppressed by bullets again—the opponent was a professional with powerful combat skills.
"Fine, I’ll just waste some time and search for it myself," the special agent shrugged. Even if these people handed over the refrigerated container, they would all be killed for the sake of secrecy. "Tsk tsk, I wonder where that young man who defeated Ada is? Why haven’t I seen him?"
"Get inside the house, don’t run out onto the street!" Uncle Wang, seeing a few quick-witted newbies entering the house while the others ran around like headless flies, shouted anxiously.
The tyrant, tall and fast, sprinted with a speed that matched humans. Men might burst forth in energy, but women were less fortunate—a woman in her thirties got caught by the tyrant, who swung his large hand and smashed her head, hurling her headless body out like a broken sack.
Among the newbies, some were lucky. Zhou Meng, with Su Su and a few classmates of Tang Zheng, picked up ammunition from the corpses of soldiers when they suddenly heard gunshots and cries from the small town, startling them.
"What should we do?" Zhao Yunshan, clutching his rifle, looked towards Zhou Meng. Among the group, he had the greatest combat power. Of course, most importantly, since Zhou Meng would not want to engage in battle for his girlfriend’s sake, Zhao Yunshan had an excuse to avoid fighting.
"Let’s hide first and see how things unfold," Zhou Meng handed the backpack to Su Su, "Go wait for me on the third Hummer, I’ll go see what’s happening."
"No, I’m scared," Su Su clung tightly to Zhou Meng’s sleeve, refusing to let him leave.
"Listen, I’ll be back soon," Zhou Meng didn’t dare to drive there, which would make him a target for everyone. "Just going to peek, nothing will happen."
Even if they had to run, Zhou Meng needed to ascertain exactly what was happening. After a night’s rest, he had recovered well, darting towards the small town like an arrow-shot rabbit, hiding around the corner to look onto Main Street.
"A tyrant?" Seeing the huge figure clothed in protective gear, Zhou Meng felt a chill from his feet to his head, losing any courage to resist.
"A despicable rabble." The seasoned special agent, initially cautious and letting the tyrant roam nearby, saw the poor response of these individuals and instantly emboldened his slaughter tactics. He took out a whistle and blew several distinct notes.
The tyrant suddenly turned around and charged back, following three newbies who had entered the house, striking head-on into the house.
The three newbies screamed loudly, running up to the second floor. The tyrant grabbed a sofa with one hand and violently smashed it onto the stairs. With a loud crash, the staircase broke apart, causing all three newbies to fall down, one of them in a suit was unlucky enough to get crushed beneath the sofa.
"No!" The man managed to get up, with nowhere to hide, he stepped back several paces, his face filled with panic as he fired at the charging tyrant, to no avail.
The tyrant approached, grabbed his head, then swung it powerfully at a girl trying to get up. The sound of bones breaking echoed; both vomited blood and lay together on the floor.
The tyrant expressionless, lifted his leg, and brutally stomped on the man’s back, the powerful force instantly crushing the couple stacked together, severing them in two, their organs mashed into a pulpy mess under military boots.
