Watching Kong Licheng and his group leave, the remaining Newbies felt a jumble of emotions, regretful for not having followed him. Then they looked at Tang Zheng, who was the first to run towards the stairwell, thinking such a good person was truly rare. Of course, some were ungrateful, like Cao Rongxuan, who thought Tang Zheng was just a bitch.

"Traffic police, you’re responsible for the left side." Tang Zheng moved quickly, armed not only with an M4A1 assault rifle but also slinging an AA-12. Even if zombies got close, he could turn them all into mincemeat.

The team made it to the sixth floor before they saw the first zombie. Having lost their target, the zombies would wander about. Tang Zheng knew the lower floors were unsafe.

"Cao Rongxuan, Huang Shan, you go in front!" Tang Zheng blew the zombie’s head off and grabbed Huang Shan from behind, yanking his shirt and dragging him forward.

"Why? Weren’t you going to take the lead?" Huang Shan didn’t want to die and started to play cunning again.

Without a word, Tang Zheng swung the butt of his gun fiercely, smashing it down repeatedly. Huang Shan screamed, his scalp splitting open as he clutched his head and crouched on the ground.

"Stop hitting me, I’ll go," Huang Shan said, only bullying ordinary people. Faced with a tough opponent, he immediately cowered.

"You, come here!" Tang Zheng called out to Cao Rongxuan, and the Newbies behind him immediately cleared a path.

"Why should I listen to you?" Cao Rongxuan was still defiant, refusing to listen to Tang Zheng.

"You either do it, or get out of the team." Tang Zheng approached Cao Rongxuan, grabbed his hair, and ruthlessly smashed his head against the wall, immediately producing a pool of blood.

"Go ahead and kill me if you dare!" Cao Rongxuan glared at Tang Zheng, wishing to tear him apart.

"In over three minutes, I’ll leave. So, all the time you’re wasting now is everyone’s lost time." Tang Zheng incited the Newbies to resent Cao Rongxuan, wishing he didn’t have to do this.

The Newbies immediately started blaming Cao Rongxuan, accusing him of not considering the bigger picture.

"This is for Dong Tao, and for Mei Zixin, whom you’ve hurt." Tang Zheng pressed Cao Rongxuan’s face against the wall, pushing hard, thinking of the pain those two had endured, and how different their lives could have been without him. "Do you really think I won’t kill you?"

Cao Rongxuan glared viciously at Tang Zheng and reached for his handgun.

Tang Zheng held Cao Rongxuan’s head and smashed it hard against the wall, causing him to be dazed and nearly pass out.

"Huang Shan, drag him and use him as a meat shield, lead the way." Tang Zheng took Cao Rongxuan’s weapons. He wasn’t planning to spare this man. Being nice all the time was useless and only made others think one was easy to bully. When it was time to be ruthless, one shouldn’t hesitate.

Huang Shan didn’t hesitate, grabbing Cao Rongxuan and moving forward. More zombies appeared, scaring him paler, but luckily Tang Zheng always managed to kill them in time.

The traffic police and Zhou Meng were working hard, but the rest couldn’t be relied upon at all.

After killing thirty zombies, including three Lickers, the team finally made it to the first-floor stairwell. Tang Zheng didn’t advance further but prepared for evacuation.

"It’s safe now. Once the explosion sounds outside, rush to Main Street and seize the Armored Humvee. I’ll kill anyone who gets in the way." Tang Zheng was about to leave when Zhang Antai grabbed him.

"You can’t leave. The lobby is still full of dozens of zombies; we can’t break through."

The Newbies nodded in agreement, feeling safest next to Tang Zheng, who slaughtered Lickers as if slicing vegetables.

"Am I supposed to eat for you too? If you can’t handle even this much, you might as well die. I believe the challenges ahead will be even tougher." Tang Zheng walked away determinedly; time was running out.

A bunch of Newbies crowded in the narrow corridor, silent, afraid the zombies might hear them, left only with the sound of heavy breathing. Everyone’s face was filled with deep worry and anxiety, this agonizing wait under the threat of death being utterly unbearable.

There were still some humans in the hotel who had escaped calamity. Because zombies were roaming the corridors, they dared not come out, but there were always a few bold ones who, hearing continuous gunshots, wanted to check the situation, inevitably attracting a few zombies.

A trapped Caucasian man had no choice but to run, overjoyed upon seeing a group of people in the corridor and immediately crying for help.

"Shut up, do you want to die?" The traffic police was furious; this fool had definitely attracted zombies. "Zhou Meng, come with me to stop the zombies."

Zhou Meng, aware of the urgent situation, didn’t shirk. The Newbies made way for them to run past.

"Bastard!" The traffic police kicked the Caucasian man in the groin, incapacitating him, then saw the three zombies that had rushed into the corridor.

The two men dared not engage in melee combat and had to open fire, watching as the shotgun obliterated the zombies’ heads. At this moment, they felt no relief but prayed that the gunfire wouldn’t attract more zombies. Unfortunately, Lady Luck wasn’t home.

The Caucasian man clutched his groin, screaming in pain, and combined with the gunfire, the zombies in the lobby were alerted and began swarming over, and the most troublesome part was that a few wandering Lickers had also heard the noise.

"Shut up!" Xu Zhifeng kicked the Caucasian man in the head, knocking him unconscious, but it was too late.

A female waiter zombie in uniform appeared in their view, followed by two chef zombies with their bellies burst open, dragging their red intestines on the ground, utterly disgusting.

"There are zombies!" A long-haired woman screamed in terror, retreating uncontrollably, causing chaos among everyone else.
