Chapter 1131: Chapter 16 Fully Armed
Apart from politicians and investors who are generally well-informed about international affairs, the remaining few are news reporters and newspaper stand owners. The former do so for a living, while the latter out of boredom and idle curiosity often peruse the newspapers to pass the time. Therefore, asking them is usually reliable.
"Plenty. About once every half a month, especially those organizations in Eastern Europe that frequently cause trouble." The shop owner was cheerful and chatty, hoping to make another sale thanks to Tang Zheng’s generous spending.
"Which places are usually attacked by these Eastern European anti-government armed forces? Are there many civilian casualties? Do you have any back issues of newspapers here? I want the New York Times." Tang Zheng was lucky to get the newspapers and immediately started to flip through them.
"Subways, famous buildings, always bustling areas with lots of people!" The shop owner had a good memory and was a pacifist, indignant when talking about these issues. However, concern quickly spread across her face, as she too had seen the recent terrorist threat, "This place won’t be attacked, right? I hope the police catch them quickly."
"I’ll take two maps..." Tang Zheng had originally intended to have Dong Zixuan use the maps to determine their location, but she had already reached out for them.
"This is Millennium Park. It seems to be a quite bustling area." Looking around and using the buildings they had passed by as landmarks, Dong Zixuan located their position in less than thirty seconds, "Since the terrorists want to warn the government, they will definitely choose a densely populated area, a place with a heavy flow of people, or a well-known tourist area to strike."
"Correct, let’s go. We must leave as soon as possible and head to the suburbs." Tang Zheng rolled up the newspapers and headed out, "I have no way of guessing the exact location of the terrorist attack; I can only try to stay as far away as possible."
"That’s already very good. If we were to just hide anywhere, it might not be safe." Dong Zixuan admired Tang Zheng’s meticulous thinking, deducing the potential range of the attack based on past patterns, "I hope the attack won’t happen."
"Make a phone call to the police station. Although we won’t go there, we cannot let the terrorists have it easy." Tang Zheng figured that an attack was very likely to happen. The group leaders weren’t fools; these armed groups had been active for over a decade without being eradicated. There was no way they could prevent an attack within half an hour, even if God himself took over.
"Okay." Dong Zixuan took out her mobile phone, but as soon as she pressed two keys, Tang Zheng’s large hand reached over and crushed it.
"What are you doing?" Dong Zixuan was taken aback and glared at Tang Zheng as she saw him take out a phone, "I speak English, I won’t mess it up."
"It’s not that, use this to make the call." Tang Zheng was looking around the street, and suddenly, with great joy, he spotted a bulky yellow American school bus parked at the roadside. He handed Dong Zixuan his phone and then crossed the street running towards the bus, knowing it could accommodate 130 people, which would be a bit crowded but totally doable.
"I need to report to the police," said the policewoman as she dialed the phone, running and using a map to tell the police the approximate location shown on her wristwatch terminal.
The person on the line requested the policewoman’s name, which she dismissed brusquely, hanging up the call. She certainly didn’t wish to be traced.
Tang Zheng didn’t rashly start the car but waited for the driver to come up and negotiate. Otherwise, if they reported it to the police, there would be more trouble.
"Hey, what are you doing?" The driver was buying a hot dog at a street vendor not far away, and when he saw Tang Zheng boarding the bus, he was furious and charged toward him, bellowing with rage.
"Can you handle this?" Dong Zixuan was a bit worried, observing that the driver was a burly man, nearly 6 feet 3 inches tall, and weighing over 350 pounds, like a tank.
Tang Zheng didn’t reply; he stood inside the carriage, waiting for the driver to come aboard.
"Who are you guys? Get off!" The driver, not intimidated by Tang Zheng’s stature, boarded the bus and lunged at him, throwing a heavy punch.
Tang Zheng originally planned to draw his gun and strike back, but a glance revealed a passing cyclist whose attention had turned their way. By the time the cyclist moved on, the driver had already closed in.
"Damn!" With no time to draw his gun, Tang Zheng dodged the heavy punch by moving his head aside and then stepped forward with his left foot while his right fist clenched tightly, harshly jabbing the driver in the stomach.
After a heavy blow to the abdomen, the driver vomited the food he was chewing. As he buckled over from the pain, Tang Zheng followed up with an uppercut to his chin.
With a thud, the driver lost consciousness, falling to the ground like a dead pig, and the half-eaten hot dog tumbled away.
"No time to prepare food now; we need to leave this area." Since the area was swarming with tourists, Tang Zheng did not wish to attract attention. He picked up the driver’s hat, put it on his head, and after fishing out the keys from his pocket, he ran back to the driver’s seat and started the car.
Watching Tang Zheng skillfully drive the lengthy school bus, Dong Zixuan was rather astonished but then turned her eyes to the fainted driver, "What about him?"
"We’ll take him with us for now." Not too far away, Tang Zheng was silently calculating the time, growing anxious.
"Why did you need me to switch phones?" Dong Zixuan sat down, needing to calm herself. She had guessed the reason but wanted confirmation.
"That mobile phone is the shop owner’s, if you call the police, they will definitely investigate you. Why else would you know the terrorists’ hideout? According to what the police coder Newbie might guess, it won’t take more than three minutes for the gun store to be surrounded," Tang Zheng flipped through the newspaper and took out the map he had grabbed earlier, memorizing the terrain.
Dong Zixuan pursed her lips, suddenly feeling a sense of defeat.
"Why are you still holding onto the mobile phone? Hurry up and throw it away."
"Oh." Dong Zixuan tossed the mobile phone out of the car window. Although Tang Zheng had not blamed her, she still felt very upset, "I am a policewoman, how can I be worse than an ordinary person?"
"You did quite well." The policewoman’s adaptability and qualities were not bad; she would become an asset in combat, Tang Zheng decided to offer a few consoling words, it was sort of like welcoming a new team member, "Welcome to the Warhammer team."
"Do you have a lot of members?" Dong Zixuan was curious about Tang Zheng’s past experiences.
"I’ll introduce you to everyone when you get back," Tang Zheng didn’t want to waste words. The yellow school bus stopped in front of the gun store, and he ran down.
"Everything is ready." Uncle Wang tied up the hostages and stuffed them under the counter. Now, he was busy cramming weapons and ammunition into those military backpacks and ammo boxes with everyone else.
This shop sold not only guns but also some military gear.
"Load up, we don’t need many guns, mainly shotguns. Having a spare is enough, try to take more bullets," Tang Zheng didn’t move any items. Instead, he went to where the military gear was displayed, picked a desert-colored 100L backpack, broke the glass display case with a punch, took out five straight knives of extreme force and threw them inside, then he rushed to the wall where the clock-mounted shotguns were hung.
"Don’t stand there, act quickly." Tang Zheng grabbed an AA12, pulled open the chamber, checked it briefly, slung it over his shoulder, then picked up two Benelli M4s, slipped them into the backpack, and began to sweep up ammunition, taking fifty boxes each of number 12 buckshot and slug.
Tang Zheng didn’t take quick loaders or additional ammo accessories; he headed straight to the counter full of handguns.
"Hey, Zixuan, don’t bother with the M1911A1, choose the Beretta M9. 9mm caliber bullets are enough for most crises, and with a 15-round magazine, that’s plenty for you to squander," Tang Zheng picked out two M9s, checked them briefly, threw them into his backpack, and started taking more bullets, "Besides, most American policemen use this gun, easier to find bullets if we run out."
"Are you sure we’re going to cross paths with the police?" Zhou Meng, the officer, asked, furrowing his brow, "The rifles here don’t have a full-auto mode, which sucks."
"Definitely, the civilian versions are like this, but they can be modified, though the stability becomes unreliable. Right, you all had better choose American Firearms. Although AK74 is durable, bullet supply might be a problem," Tang Zheng grabbed about three hundred bullets and ten spare magazines and then hast to the assault rifles section. He had intended to pick an M4A1, but upon seeing a G36C Short Burst that could fit dual drum magazines, he immediately liked it, since both use 5.56mm NATO standard bullets, there’s no problem with the ammunition.
"Don’t freeze, move quickly." Seeing Tang Zheng acting quickly but methodically, Uncle Wang felt more at ease; such a calm and confident group leader also boosted the team’s confidence.
"Tang Zheng, pick out a few good guns for me too. Don’t let them jam when it counts," Zhao Dongtao yelled at Tang Zheng while he was prying open a box.
"No problem." Actually, these weapons were for excessive use; Tang Zheng planned to get military versions as soon as possible. It took less than a minute for the backpack to be fully stuffed, bulging at the seams.
"Around eighty kilograms." The straps dug into his shoulders, causing pain, and his legs clearly needed a lot of strength to support the weight, which frustrated Tang Zheng, as he hadn’t felt this way in a long time.
"Twenty minutes have passed." Dong Zixuan, imitating what she saw, had also picked enough guns and ammunition to fill a backpack. After shouting this, she left the gun store, planning to grab a Barrett M82A1 Anti-materiel Sniper Rifle with a large caliber.
"No use, when you choose weapons, the criteria should be that it doesn’t hinder your escape after carrying them," Tang Zheng took an L115A3 sniper rifle with a scope, "And besides, a few of these gadgets are enough."
"Hmph, you didn’t even offer to help me carry one." Dong Zixuan also complained; she was a very strong woman, and even if Tang Zheng offered help, she would have refused.
"Who knows how to drive this kind of large school bus?" Tang Zheng had to make plans, there was no time to waste on cars, unfortunately, the newbies were too mediocre.
"I’ll give it a try," Uncle Wang volunteered, though he didn’t have a license for large vehicles.
"Right." Tang Zheng agreed; they had to develop a driver somehow.
The yellow school bus went back to the teleport spot. Sitting in McDonald’s, the newbies had kept an eye on Main Street, running out to Tang Zheng as soon as they saw him.
"Go and pay the bill." Tang Zheng pulled out a wad of US dollars, handed them to He Lian, and didn’t shout to avoid attracting attention, just waved his hand toward the window. (To be continued.
