Chapter 1069: Chapter 42 Major Reduction in Force
Yin Zhijian and Zhang Heng were two lunatics who didn’t care about anything but their kill count. The moment the bus burst out of the bank, they suddenly extended their guns out the car window and sprayed bullets at the citizens and depositors.
A scene of chaos ensued, with blood splattering and many people falling painfully into pools of blood; even Pang Meiqin almost got caught in it.
"Idiots, if you disobey my orders again, I’ll kill you," Tang Zheng grabbed Zhang Heng’s skull and smashed it against the glass, while Dantai did the same with Yin Zhijian’s.
Sekiya Ganta had potential, but his willingness to point a gun at Tang Zheng for the sake of his countrymen meant that they were ultimately estranged. The decision was made; not a single one of the newbies from Japan would be spared, and they must be killed swiftly. After such an incident, it’s certain they would want to leave the group.
The entire robbery operation took one minute and thirty seconds, and, as usual, the police response was slow. When the bus rushed out of the bank onto the highway, there were no interceptions.
"Tang Zheng, get ready, proceed with the plan as we’ve arranged," Dantai waved his hand, signaling Yu Manli to continue speeding up. Five dumb thugs sat in the back of the bus, controlled by Teng Yuanxiang’s Seed Ability, ready to engage in a gun battle with Tang Zheng as per the plan and then be killed to act as scapegoats.
After driving past four streets, Tang Zheng leapt off the bus at top speed and dashed into a small alley, heading toward a police car that had been prepared earlier. However, there were always unexpected events.
Christina was wandering in South City, looking for eye-catching news, when she drew the attention of some thugs. Without the deterrence of a major gang, these weaklings became bolder, looking to take advantage of the chaos and get a piece of the action, so the beauty reporter was targeted.
Christina was dragged into an alley, her clothes torn off, leaving only her underwear. She struggled, but she was immediately punched twice in the abdomen and had her mouth gagged so she couldn’t even scream.
The five kidnappers laughed lewdly as they pulled down their pants, pondering over how to make the most money after having their way with the woman: where could they sell her?
Tang Zheng shed his black outer clothing, revealing the police uniform he wore underneath, and as he ran, he witnessed the scene unfolding here.
"Boss, there’s a policeman," one of the thugs saw Tang Zheng and got startled.
"What’s there to panic about? Kill him," the gang leader pulled out a handgun. With many policemen killed in recent days, his audacity had grown. But before he could fire a shot, a bullet tore through his arm, shattering his right hand.
Tang Zheng fired repeatedly, blowing out the legs of all the thugs, who then littered the alley.
"Make a phone call for help," Tang Zheng rushed over. The reporter, stunned by fear, with flesh on her face, picked up her purse and camera and followed Tang Zheng.
Just as Tang Zheng got into the police car and started it, the reporter burst in through the door.
"Get out!" Tang Zheng roared. If it weren’t for the fear of running too fast and raising suspicions, how could he have allowed this woman to catch up to him?
"Aren’t you a policeman? I need to report a crime," Christina said as she got into the police car, instantly feeling a surge of safety that relaxed her.
"Damn it," Tang Zheng didn’t rush to leave, otherwise how could he explain knowing the whereabouts of the gangsters? Fortunately, it wasn’t even a minute before the car radio crackled with an urgent announcement from the main station.
"Attention all patrol cars, an orange-red bus is heading towards the water plant with at least ten gangsters on board, armed. Proceed to intercept and provide support."
"A big case," Tang Zheng shouted excitedly as he dashed away.
"What about those thugs?" the reporter asked in shock, "If no one takes care of them, they’ll die."
"Let them die then, they’re just a bunch of gangsters, better off not wasting the air," Tang Zheng said as he sped off with a piercing siren, all cars moving aside, no one daring to block his way.
In three minutes, Tang Zheng arrived at the water plant and saw the bus abandoned at the entrance. Most of the ’gangsters’ had disappeared without a trace, leaving only a man unwilling to part with the US dollars scattered inside the bus, stuffing them into a bag.
"There’s a gangster," Christina, who had calmed down, got excited again, instinctively reaching for her camera. She saw that the man, upon seeing the police car, immediately bolted, leaving a trail of US dollars behind that caught the eye.
Tang Zheng gave chase in the car and, glancing at the rear-view mirror to see the reporter with her camera, decided to put on a show. A single shot would have sufficed to take down the gangster, but it turned into a drawn-out gun battle instead.
Realizing he couldn’t outrun the police car, the gangster suddenly turned and fired at him. Bullets pinged off the police car, scaring the reporter into curling up with her hands over her head.
"Could Teng Yuanxiang be trying to kill me? That aim is a bit too accurate," Tang Zheng joked as he looked at the bullet holes on the windshield, knowing that the gangster was controlled by Teng Yuanxiang but outsiders couldn’t see any flaws.
"Fight back, kill him!" The frightened reporter, covering her ears, yelled at Tang Zheng, but soon she remembered her role as a reporter and courageously kept filming.
Feeling that the performance had gone on long enough, Tang Zheng shot the gangster in the leg, then delivered a finishing blow to the head.
"It’s dangerous inside, wait here, I’ll go catch them," Tang Zheng said as he opened the car door and jumped out.
Christina, young and full of a sense of justice and chasing after the Pulitzer Prize, followed him.
To make Tang Zheng’s pursuit seem flawless, Dantai deliberately scattered banknotes on the ground intermittently. Soon, two gangsters with bags of money appeared in sight, and a gunfight immediately unfolded.
Christina started to get excited as she captured the scene of Tang Zheng exchanging gunfire with them.
Tang Zheng killed them, picked up the AK47 and ammo clip, and charged forward furiously.
"Be careful!" Christina was startled, thinking this policeman was being too bold.
The action was convincingly real, a gun battle lasting over ten minutes. Other policemen arrived during this time but, hearing the intense gunshots, none dared to enter. Naturally, the beautiful reporter caught their hesitant attitudes on camera as well.
Tang Zheng threw a hand grenade, blasting the corpses of Little Mustache and the Captain to pieces, netting two kills before finally finishing off the remaining two gangsters in a warehouse.
Dantai and the others had already evacuated, leaving only Teng Yuanxiang’s puppet and the stolen US dollars, which were piled up in bags inside the warehouse. As for the gold bars, they were of course in Tang Zheng’s wristwatch.
What followed was much smoother. The other policemen wanted to take advantage of the situation to embezzle some of the spoils, but they were out of luck, watched by the reporter and Tang Zheng and unable to make a move. With more reporters arriving, Tang Zheng naturally became the center of attention, delivering an impassioned speech.
When tomorrow’s newspapers come out, Tang Zheng will definitely be the star policeman of the City of God, and he was already considering using Christina’s identity to earn some more goodwill. After all, there were plenty of villains; he didn’t even need to stage the scenes himself to play the hero of justice.
Dantai led everyone back to the Dali Hua Hotel. They had barely rested for five minutes in their room when they heard panicked shouting from downstairs. Rushing down, they saw flames rising from the lobby floor, forming a magical teleportation array.
The Demon Knight riding the flaming motorcycle floated up. He lay on the motorcycle, propping his head on his hands, looking at these villains.
"I told you, no more crimes." The Demon Knight stood up, drawing the shotgun strapped to his back with a cool move, and aimed it at Zhang Heng, who had just been about to go out for fun with Hu Shang and had the misfortune of running into the knight.
"It wasn’t me!" Zhang Heng immediately shrunk back, pleading for mercy as the knight’s burning skull terrified him.
The knight had no respect for such small fry. He spit out a mouthful, which landed on Zhang Heng, and immediately ignited.
"Help me." Zhang Heng rolled on the ground, but couldn’t extinguish the flame. At least Hu Shang, who had a better relationship with him, grabbed a fire extinguisher, rushed over, and put out the fire for him.
Pang Meiqin eyed the Demon Knight with some regret. Her wristwatch restrictions had been lifted, but she couldn’t draw out the Demon Ripper or Hell’s Song. Otherwise, she might have had a chance to kill him, considering those two weapons had double the killing effect on spirits.
"Hmm, you have the highest sin value. I wish you would give me your skull," the knight said, focusing on Dantai with a demand no special agent would ever comply with.
"Looking for death?" Dantai got ready for combat.
"You like committing crimes, right? How about a game? You kill him, and I will give you seven days of freedom. If you refuse, I’ll hunt all of you down to death!" The Demon Knight slowly moved his muzzle, aiming at each person in turn.
"You die first!" Sha Ou gestured, and the entire front desk was blown away, flying toward the knight.
The knight revved the throttle, and the motorcycle charged toward Hu Shang. The latter dodged, but a shotgun blast shattered his left leg, and then the wheel rolled over his body, setting him ablaze.
"Help me." Hu Shang looked at Zhang Heng, but the latter was desperately rushing upstairs, completely ignoring him.
Tang Zheng released a mental impact, but it had only a slight effect, infuriating him. Pang Meiqin pulled out her rifle and fired, Li Xinlan released an ice spear, and the others, stuck in the corridor, couldn’t fight.
"Zhang Heng, I curse you!" No one cared about Hu Shang, so the unfortunate guy was burned alive.
"Save me!" Zhang Heng’s escapade also came to an end; he was only halfway through his run when he was struck by Sha Ou.
The magnanimous Sha Ou despised such ungrateful scum and used telekinesis to drag him and smash him into the knight.
The knight spun his shotgun, considering, but decided not to fire. Instead, he threw a chain that wrapped around Zhang Heng’s neck and, with a toss, embedded the chain into the ceiling, hanging Zhang Heng up.
Zhang Heng, clutching at his neck, suffocated. Unable to shout, he burned to ashes as he died.
The Demon Knight, seeing the Conqueror plunge down, fired a shot at the ceiling, obliterating him. Then he rode his motorcycle up as if driving on an air highway.
"Whose room is that?" Sha Ou yelled.
"Ota Nobe’s," Dantai said, slowing down noticeably. He was hoping to use the Demon Knight to kill off the Japanese, while Sha Ou, that fool, rashly charged forward without enough cunning.
