Chapter 1068 - 41 Internal Strife
Chapter 1068: Chapter 41 Internal Strife
The wealthiest bank is located in the north of the city, but Tang Zheng’s target is not the money; he aimed to create a situation that would render the new Director incompetent. Therefore, naturally, he still had to choose the south. Although there wasn’t much money stored there, the security force was significant. They knew the area was chaotic, so there were a total of twenty security personnel, all armed with loaded guns.
"Is it confirmed?" Sitting on a bus, Dantai asked Pang Meiqin about the situation through her mobile phone. She was pretending to withdraw money while communicating the bank’s layout to Dantai in code.
Tang Zheng sat in the back seat, explaining the details and precautions to the ten men who were about to participate in the operation.
"Once we rush in, take out the security personnel. Zhang Heng, Little Mustache, Yin Zhijian, use sticky plastic explosives on the steel column bulletproof glass and blow it up. Then we’ll rush in and rob the place. Captain, Hu Shang, you two will come with me to the vault. The rest will be in charge of guarding and dispersing the police." Tang Zheng distributed AT-4 rocket launchers to each man.
"I want to switch with Hu Shang; I’ll go to the vault," Little Mustache proposed.
"Fine," Tang Zheng did not refuse.
The Self-Defense Force Captain’s eyes flickered as he exchanged glances with his companions, looking pleased, settling on a decision.
"Thirty seconds until we reach the bank. Check your equipment, prepare to move." Yu Manli, driving the bus, reminded everyone after turning a bend. As the bus was about to pass the bank, she suddenly floored the accelerator, speeding straight into it.
The security personnel were shocked and reached for their weapons, but due to the chaos on the sidewalk, they were unsure if it was a robbery or a car out of control, and thus unable to fire their guns.
Two pedestrians were unfortunate, one directly hit by the bus and the other trapped under a tire.
"Attack!" Dantai pulled down his face mask and gave the command just as the Self-Defense Force Captain opened fire. With his AK47, he shot dead a security guard. Zhang Heng and Yin Zhijian didn’t care about the guards and instead fired at the newbies and the cars, excitedly howling as they watched them panic and their Sin Points rapidly increase.
"Do you want to die? I’ll deal with you when we get back," Dantai frowned. The bus smashed through the glass door and charged into the bank, screeching to a halt in the lobby.
The bus doors opened, and Sha Ou charged out first, killing two security guards. Yin Zhijian and Zhang Heng fired at the depositors, completely ignoring Tang Zheng’s orders.
"Bastards." Tang Zheng kicked Zhang Heng in the waist, sending him tumbling towards the bus door. Dantai added a kick, and Zhang Heng fell, his body skidding a long distance among the glass slag; even with his black headgear on, his cheeks scraped raw. But because Sha Ou had suppressed the security personnel, they couldn’t organize a counterattack; otherwise, Zhang Heng would’ve been killed.
"Robbery!" Dantai also jumped down, first firing a rocket shell at the bulletproof glass, shattering it and sending glass shards flying everywhere.
The depositors were in chaos.
"Get down and stay quiet, or I’ll kill you all," Sha Ou bellowed, feeling a pang of frustration in his heart. It seemed like the second time he was doing something like this.
After Sekiya Ganta killed a few unruly individuals, the depositors bent their heads and crouched down. Pang Meiqin took the opportunity to hide among them as well.
"Move, fast," Tang Zheng led the two Japanese toward the vault.
"Leave your seats, move back," An Fei and Lin Fachan jumped out, pointing their guns at the bank staff and watching them to prevent them from triggering the alarm, but it was a beat too late.
The piercing, shrill alarm echoed throughout the bank’s lobby.
The marble floor, polished clean and bright by the janitors, contrasted starkly with the corpses of the security personnel and the splattered blood, making it all the more conspicuous.
Ratatat, Tang Zheng held his gun with one hand, killed the guard at the door, and rushed into the vault. Too lazy to deal with the combination lock, he pulled out a powerful bomb, stuck it to the door.
"Back off!" Tang Zheng hid outside the door, detonated the charge, filling the air with smoke and dust. The alloy door to the vault twisted, and as he was about to rush over, the marble floor suddenly turned swampy, trapping his feet.
The steel contorted, shaping into a puppet that took large strides toward Tang Zheng, swinging its fist at his head.
Ratatatata, the Self-Defense Force Captain and Little Mustache fired, their bullets all aiming for Tang Zheng.
Tang Zheng raised his arm to protect his head, and activated his Seed Ability, leaping out of the quagmire. However, the marble grew vines that chased after him.
A warrior appeared, swung his warhammer, and launched the steel puppet toward the Japanese.
"Why are you trying to kill me?" Tang Zheng did not immediately attack. He wanted to know the reason. Although puzzled when Little Mustache requested to undertake the operation together, he didn’t take it seriously because of the great disparity in their strength. Nevertheless, he didn’t expect the other party to have activated a Seed Ability.
The Japanese didn’t speak, continuing their full-force attack, tossing hand grenades frantically, but all were locked on and exploded by Tang Zheng.
"You think just because you have a Seed Ability you can be arrogant? You’re overestimating yourself." With several quick moves, Tang Zheng left afterimages behind, then appeared beside Little Mustache, grabbed his head, and slammed his body to the ground. He followed up with a gunshot, blasting both of Little Mustache’s legs.
"Banpei!" Little Mustache shouted and detonated the explosives he wore on his body.
Tang Zheng grabbed hold of this guy and immediately felt that his weight was off, and the determination in his scream was too resolute, so he quickly tossed him aside.
Little Mustache was blown to bits, spraying blood in all directions. Although Tang Zheng was unharmed, his body was splattered with blood, and his cheek was cut by flying shards of rock.
The moment the Self-Defense Force Captain sensed trouble, he turned and bolted. Tang Zheng gave chase and had just caught up to him, grabbing his collar when the man executed a sudden turn and attack. Bone spurs shot out from his arms, aiming straight for Tang Zheng’s chest.
The Tyrannosaurus Protective Clothing blocked the assault. If the attacker had been able to explode his Seed Ability, Tang Zheng would certainly have been injured.
"Gutsy," Tang Zheng would have snapped his neck if not for the need to interrogate him.
"Bite down." The young Captain’s face contorted ferociously as he attempted to clench his teeth and bite down on the detonator hidden within, but Tang Zheng, quick to react, shoved his hand into the man’s mouth and forcefully dislodged the entire set of teeth.
"Why try to kill me?" Tang Zheng asked again, somewhat disgruntled, disappointed that Dantai had failed to detect the presence of the Japanese Seed Ability users.
In reality, Tang Zheng was somewhat mistaken to blame Dantai. To maximize war results and efficiency, special agents allowed newbies to operate separately. Those Seeds were earned by their own efforts, and Americans had been quite helpful, hoping the Japanese would give the Warhammer Team a rough time.
"Not talking, huh? Then I’ll just go and slaughter all the Japanese newbies." This was not a threat; he did not believe the others were unaware of these two’s plan.
"Chinese, not trustworthy," the Captain snarled at Tang Zheng, his speech slurred because of the missing teeth.
"I don’t like your gaze." Tang Zheng extended his index finger and plunged it into the Captain’s left eye, gouging it out, "Who else was involved in this plan?"
"Don’t know." The Captain wanted to commit suicide, but in the presence of a Conqueror, he had no chance, and his puppets were also repressed by the warriors.
"At the very least, Aihara Chiharu was definitely not involved." Tang Zheng thought of the cute Japanese girl and probed the Captain, who showed no change in expression, "So it was Black Long Straight with a sakura emblem?"
The Captain tried to keep calm but his eyelid twitched noticeably.
"You’re a rare double ability user, capable of becoming a powerful Conqueror if you were to grow," Tang Zheng lifted the Gravity Suppression, causing the bone spurs to miss their target.
"Would you give us a chance to grow?" the Captain retorted coldly.
"Is that your reason for trying to kill me?" Tang Zheng laughed. He had thought about taking action but was a bit reluctant. It never occurred to him that they would strike first.
"Yes, you are the Group Leader, holding the team together. If you were killed, the team would collapse, and we would have more opportunities," the Captain said unabashedly. A disunited team was what they hoped for; he and Little Mustache, having acquired abilities, thought a surprise attack would succeed, but they were still crushed.
The Captain thought of gathering intelligence but no Conquerors paid them any attention, not even falling for a honey trap. Xu Liangmao was honest, Sha Ou straightforward, and as for Dantai, he would never betray his own people.
"I doubt you can see through all this." Tang Zheng pondered how to exploit the Japanese newbies’ value before discarding them, but decided it was a task better suited for Dantai, who was an expert at it.
"I have told you everything I know. Kill me," the Captain begged for a quick death.
"As I’ve said before, infighting costs a thousand points." Tang Zheng still had one matter unclear.
"Aren’t you killing us now?" Blood oozed from the Captain’s remaining eye, which still harbored deep enmity.
"I’m a Fearless, and since you’ve shown hostility, killing you won’t deduct points," Tang Zheng stated frankly.
"You’re the ones who said killing would cost a thousand points, how could we prove it otherwise?"
The Captain needed to say no more; with Tang Zheng’s intelligence, he could guess that the Japanese feared the words were a trap that would lead to their careless demise. Moreover, even at the cost of a thousand points, killing Tang Zheng would be worth it.
"Ruthless enough to achieve the goal," Tang Zheng wanted to know who planned all this for the Captain, but then a steel puppet abruptly shot out a spike, piercing through his head. Still, the man managed to commit suicide.
Tang Zheng pocketed the gold bars into his wristwatch and carried the bodies toward the lobby, leaving no trace of evidence for the enemy.
"What happened?" Dantai, having finished the robbery, was surprised by the situation on Tang Zheng’s side.
"Tang Jun? Why are they dead?" Sekiya Ganta, seeing the bodies of his compatriots, was shocked and loudly questioned Tang Zheng. With the strength of the Group Leader, casualties shouldn’t happen. Although he respected Tang Zheng, facing his compatriots’ corpses, Sekiya Ganta couldn’t stay calm and pointed his gun at Tang Zheng.
"You should ask them." Tang Zheng stared into Sekiya’s eyes, noticing his sincerity, indicating either he was a good actor, or he truly was unaware.
"Retreat!" Dantai knew the Japanese newbies were unreliable, but without showing any dissatisfaction, he hopped on the bus. Yu Manli immediately started the car, ready to leave. (To be continued.
