Chapter 1062: Chapter 37 The Dignity Not to Be Affronted
The street lights were dim, casting the Dali Hua Hotel into the night, with only the burning middle-aged housewife glowing like an eternal torch in the darkness.
Tang Zheng withdrew his gaze, the slightly dim cigarette tracing an elegant arc as if a diver executing a beautiful dive and achieving a perfect score of the highest difficulty.
Boom, the cigarette landed on the bald man’s body, instantly igniting the gasoline, and the flames spread, engulfing him completely.
The bald man rolled in agony, trying to extinguish the tongues of fire on his body. His cotton suit only exacerbated the blaze, especially as it melted and stuck to his skin, causing excruciating, bone-deep pain.
The suited men were terrified and scrambled to crawl away, futilely, since their legs had been shot to pieces.
With a gun in one hand, Tang Zheng fired single shots beside them, bullets striking the asphalt road and sparking, igniting the gasoline.
"A bunch of scum." Tang Zheng passed by the screaming, rolling ’torches,’ calmly removed the empty ammo clip, tossed it away, and reloaded with a new one.
His mobile phone rang—it was Dantai calling.
"Tang Zheng, come to the Black Blood Bar."
"You’re not planning on using the Punishment Force to wreck Tuna’s stronghold, are you?" Tang Zheng tossed his rifle onto the driver’s seat, closed the car door, and drove away.
"Talking to a smart person really saves effort." Dantai wanted to test whether staying in a crowded place would involve others, and if it could, using the Punishment Force to annihilate Tuna was a good plan. Even if Tuna recruited more villains, facing a gang that had taken root in the city for over a decade was still a big pressure.
The Dark Bar was Tuna’s headquarters, and especially as tensions rose recently, more bodyguards had been arranged.
Tang Zheng drove into Manning Street, immediately attracting many glances, while the arrival of the police car caused the noisy commotion to decrease by more than a dozen decibels.
The idle loitering hippies, clients seeking pleasure, prostitutes hoping to make a big score under the cover of night, gang members peddling drugs, and avant-garde young men and women filled the street.
As the police car passed by, most people automatically cleared a path. However, this world is never lacking in fools. A youth with multi-colored hair mocked the police after it passed by, giving it the middle finger then dropping his pants and shaking his buttocks at the police car.
The youth was showing off his courage and rebellion, while his seven male and female companions were excitedly cheering in low voices, a few getting caught up in the moment and raising middle fingers towards Tang Zheng.
Through the rearview mirror, Tang Zheng saw their gestures and pressed the brake.
This group of people was startled, immediately shut their mouths, but after waiting for a dozen seconds and seeing that the police officer did not come out, they became bold again; the youth appeared to feel that his previous cowardice was humiliating and suddenly picked up a brick and threw it at the police car.
Bang, the brick landed on the roadside; the dyed-haired youth ultimately did not dare to smash the police car.
"Hey, come here!" Tang Zheng stretched his hand out of the car window, hooked a finger, and called out.
The youth hesitated; because others had noticed the confrontation and gathered around. A few of Tuna’s members pointed and jeered mockingly at him.
"Look, another spineless coward scared stiff!"
The rebellious young man could not stand the contempt, gave the police car the middle finger with force, and cursed loudly.
"FUCK!" That cry of rage earned cheers from the onlookers, and the youth felt like a hero, holding his head high with pride.
Bang, the car door opened, and Tang Zheng got out. The dim streetlights shone on his handsome profile, highlighting a set of chiseled features. His crisp uniform clung to his well-built body, giving him an even taller and more imposing appearance. Merely standing there, he exuded a formidable aura without a sound.
The crowd watching fell silent, even the most rowdy youths seemed to shrink at the sight, quietly watching him.
Tang Zheng paid them no mind, took out a cigarette, placed it in his mouth, and lit it. Then, he turned his head and gestured to the dyed-haired youth to come over.
Whoosh, the watching crowd’s gaze shifted over, the pressure mounting on the dyed-haired youth, unsure of what to do.
"Good, full of guts, like a real man!" Tang Zheng said indifferently, his tone dripping with sarcasm that anyone could hear.
Tang Zheng took a step towards him. Facing his stern expression, the dyed-haired youth instinctively backed away, trying to flee. There was no way around it; the number of people who died at Tang Zheng’s hand was well over a thousand. The formidable presence he had cultivated was not something such a small-timer could withstand.
"What, not planning to run?" Tang Zheng stood in front of the dyed-haired youth, their height difference allowing him to look down on him.
The youth’s lips quivered, too embarrassed to speak, but then he saw the yellow-skinned young man pressing the lit cigarette against his forehead.
Sizzle, a sharp burning sensation spread immediately, the youth trembled, instinctively trying to recoil to avoid the cigarette, but a hand caught his hair, pressing down hard.
The youth screamed, no longer caring about Tang Zheng’s identity as a policeman, and punched towards his stomach.
Tang Zheng stepped back to dodge the blow and pulled down on the arm holding the hair, pulling the youth’s head down. At the same time, his knee came up sharply, slamming into the youth’s nose.
Bang, the young man’s nose bled profusely, and he fell backwards. Before he could scream, he swallowed it back down as Tang Zheng’s follow-up kick landed on his chest.
The young man coughed violently, nearly suffocating, even spitting out flecks of blood.
The crowd of onlookers fell silent as cicadas in winter, while the rebellious youths dyed with the young man held their breath, anxiously watching Tang Zheng; they had all been cowed by the group leader’s ruthless methods.
"Is mocking others fun?" Along with the questioning, Tang Zheng waved his hand and slapped the youth beside him; the guy reached out to cover his face but was directly kicked in the stomach by Tang Zheng’s heavy boot, sending him flying.
Smack, Tang Zheng backhandedly slapped another, and the youth, seeing his companions’ plight, smartened up, didn’t dare move, and took the hit squarely.
"Children under eighteen, all of you scram home." Tang Zheng shouted angrily, his icy gaze sweeping over those present.
"Hey, Mr. Police Officer, don’t you think you’re overstepping?" One of the Tuna underbosses, upon hearing this, became dissatisfied. Relying on their gang’s identity, they were not afraid of the police; at worst they’d just kill this guy and sink him in the river towards the pier; nothing would be found.
Tang Zheng glanced at the underboss and approached. These guys immediately reached for their handguns at their waists; true to being the number one gang in South City, they had deep pockets, even equipping their lowest rank members with firearms.
"What’s the matter? Thinking of assaulting a police officer?" Tang Zheng’s face remained unfazed, which took the underboss by surprise.
"Officer, you must have seen wrong." The underboss knew he couldn’t back down, otherwise he would be punished when he got back.
"Seen wrong? I never make mistakes." By the time Tang Zheng finished speaking, he was right in front of the underboss, and suddenly drew his service weapon, thrusting it into his mouth.
Because of the force, the muzzle of the gun directly smashed the underboss’s lips, loosening two of his teeth in the process.
The underboss’s henchmen were shocked, raised their guns, and aimed at Tang Zheng.
"Whoa, careful not to fire accidentally." Tang Zheng was as calm as ever, showing no fear at all; instead, the underboss’s face changed dramatically as he saw Tang Zheng’s finger tightening on the trigger, and he hurriedly stopped his subordinates, but unfortunately, with something in his mouth, whatever he said was muffled and unclear.
"Want them to put down their guns?" Tang Zheng asked the underboss.
The underboss nodded his head in a hurry.
"No need." A smile crept over Tang Zheng’s lips, and he pulled out the muzzle and fired at his henchmen.
With the pop, pop of rapid gunfire, the henchmen screamed in agony, falling to the ground, their arms that were holding guns all broken.
The underboss, initially confused, now understood the implication; he wanted to raise his gun to shoot Tang Zheng, but the other’s ruthlessness and that calm smile weighed his arm down as if it weighed a thousand pounds, utterly unable to lift it.
"Tsk, not bad. Otherwise, I would have blown your hand off too." Tang Zheng stared intently at the underboss, grabbed his hair with one hand, and pulled his face close, "What’s the matter? Still not throwing away your gun?"
Hearing the screams of his henchmen and the devilish warning of the officer, the underboss felt the gun in his hand turn into a scorching hot iron and hastily threw it away.
Tang Zheng swung his hand, fiercely smashing the butt of his gun against the underboss’s cheek, flipping him over and causing him to spit out half a mouthful of teeth.
"I’ve said it before, I never make mistakes." Tang Zheng stepped on the underboss’s head, "So you were thinking of assaulting an officer?"
"Yes!" The underboss no longer dared to be prickly and quickly admitted his fault; all he wanted now was to get away from this thug as soon as possible.
"Admitting your mistake, that’s being a good kid. I’m in a good mood today, so I’ll let you off." Tang Zheng wiped his shoe on the underboss, got into the police car, started the ignition, and drove off, leaving a scene of moaning wounded.
Someone recognized Tang Zheng and was suddenly astounded; just yesterday he spoke of making the City of God live up to its name, and today he became a villain seemingly even nastier than Bynum.
No sooner had the police car approached the front of the Dark Bar than it was blocked by the gang members.
"Mr. Police Officer, you’re not welcome here!" The Tuna members were very assertive and even deliberately lifted their jackets to show their handguns underneath.
"What was that? I didn’t hear you clearly." Tang Zheng rolled down the car window and inquired.
"I said—" The man in the black suit couldn’t finish his sentence, because he was abruptly silenced by the muzzle of an AK47 thrust directly into his mouth.
"Hm? What did you say?" Tang Zheng’s inquiry was clearly rhetorical.
Seeing the conflict here, other members ran over, with some hurrying to inform the big boss responsible for security.
"Now, may I go in?" Tang Zheng asked, completely ignoring the guns aimed at him. So many people looking for trouble; he’d be glad to cause a big scene to earn some Sin Points.
Tang Zheng pulled out a hand grenade, bit off the insurance pin with his mouth, and the black-suited men surrounding him changed their expressions and immediately retreated.
Tang Zheng placed the hand grenade on the roof of the car. The man whose mouth was stopped by the muzzle wanted to move away but didn’t dare make a sudden move, his forehead slick with sweat.
