Chapter 1004: Chapter 52 Red-Clothed Woman
Even in Hero Mode, he couldn’t withstand the stabbing of four SS-grade cold weapons, and blood flowed down the sharp blades. Kwon Tae Hyun, with bloodshot eyes wide with rage, tried to struggle one last time, but it was in vain as Tang Zheng’s Moon Blade, with its cooldown complete, shot out and embedded itself into his skull.
"So strong!" Bai Guo was horrified that an S-class weapon didn’t decapitate him, but fortunately, with Tang Zheng and the other two’s finishing blows, they shattered his body and severed his head.
"Killing a Fourth Order who’s gravely injured and has less than twenty percent combat strength is this hard, Tang Zheng, you really need to step up your game. Otherwise, the team won’t feel safe," Dantai, flicking the blood off his blade, sheathed it. Had they not taken advantage of the situation, they would have never killed their opponent.
"This is the advantage of intelligence." Bai Guo, playing the fool, envied the wisdom of Tang Zheng and Dantai. "As long as you can kill, why care about the details?"
"Idiot." Qin Yan flicked Bai Guo’s forehead and went to pick up Jin Anhui’s space wristwatch.
"Tsk, this captain really was poor. He probably spent all his points on this Tyrannosaurus Protective Clothing," Dantai said after unlocking Kwon Tae Hyun’s space wristwatch, scanning the inventory list and tossing it to Tang Zheng for distribution.
Three shields, a curved knife, and a heavy Magnetostorm Rifle — other than the five S-grade items, the rest was trash, not worth Tang Zheng’s attention.
"I’ll take the Thunder Shield. You guys can divide the rest," Tang Zheng said, wanting to rest for a while as now he only sought SS-grade equipment.
Dantai refused and picked out two thousand points worth of supplies for him. Kwon Tae Hyun had apparently killed only lower-order Conquerors, so all the spoils of war he had gathered were basic items.
Besides that SS-grade saber and a Firefly as well as a shield, Jin Anhui was as poor as could be.
Bai Guo had quite a few cold weapons but lacked SS-grade ones. However, Qin Yan still gave the saber to Lu Fan, as even a sudden sneak attack from the Little Lolita could be unexpectedly effective.
"All right, let’s go find the Instant Noodle Team," Dantai waved, signaling the bus to turn around, offering the newbies a sigh of relief and a chance to calm down significantly.
...
Seeing the South Korean team retreat, Su Han’s group didn’t dare to give chase. Instead, they escaped quickly in a Hummer, treating injuries along the way and conserving strength for future battles. In their haste, they didn’t even have time to collect their fallen comrades’ corpses.
"It’s all my fault." Su Han, thinking of Tong Ping and the others, became mired in deep guilt.
"Group Leader, you’ve done well enough," Zeng Fanghai reassured weakly from the seat, his face pale due to excessive blood loss.
Su Ameng drove the car with full concentration, not daring to be distracted for even a moment. As they passed a fork in the road, dozens of rocket shells and a thick beam of light shot at them from the side.
The only Fourth Order Group Leader from the Nepal Team, the red-clothed woman, launched an attack on them. With her strength, she could easily crush this battered Instant Noodle Team. However, just as the rocket shells hit the Hummer, it vanished completely.
Su Ameng teleported with the Hummer, reappearing fifty meters away.
"I knew you’d do that," the red-clothed woman wasn’t surprised and chased after them in her Whale Hunting Vehicle, firing the Beam Cannon at full power.
"Jump out!" The barrage was too dense to completely avoid, and after several teleports and a five hundred meter run, the Hummer was hit. Su Han opened the car door, yanked Lin Chen out by the collar, and dragged him into a nearby large compartment.
Su Ameng followed, teleporting with Zeng Fanghai.
The red-clothed woman jumped out of the war vehicle and charged into the compartment, attacking swiftly. Su Ameng didn’t back down, wielding her whip and clashing with her. Su Han, letting go of Lin Chen, joined the fray. He was a good Group Leader, willing to carry the team on his back and protect his members. That was why people like Tong Ping had admired him. It was just unfortunate that the Instant Noodle Team had such rotten luck.
Su Han was already critically injured on the brink of death, coughing up blood continuously. He wouldn’t have been able to stand if it weren’t for some earlier treatment. It was also fortunate that Su Ameng had spatial abilities and excelled in guerrilla tactics; otherwise, they wouldn’t have been able to restrain the red-clothed woman at all.
"Let me grant you a team annihilation!" The red-clothed woman laughed confidently, but then the radar suddenly erupted with a barrage of alarm sounds. Effortlessly, she glanced at it and her expression changed dramatically; there were forty-one red dots on it.
"Damn, we’ve run into someone even more treacherous." The red dots were moving fast and would arrive in less than three minutes. The red-clothed woman didn’t linger, quickly retreating. "I’ll spare you for now."
"Speed up!" Tang Zheng, also seeing the battle ahead on the radar, told the fleet to accelerate, hoping that rushing to the battlefield would scare off the opponent.
Dantai frowned; someone who could seize this opportunity to attack the Instant Noodle Team, and all alone at that, clearly had formidable strength, undoubtedly a Fourth Order.
"It’s a cautious one, not easy to deal with." Qin Yan’s frown deepened as she saw the red dot leave.
"Hope the mission item isn’t stolen," Yu Manli sighed. When would this cruel game end? She had only accumulated just over three thousand points, a far cry from the ten thousand needed. And if it weren’t for Tang Zheng giving her quite a few props, even those points would have been unattainable, given how much needed to be spent on enhancing her body.
"Su Ameng, are you alright?" The fleet stopped in the passage, and with the dim light to guide them, Dantai and the others came in and saw Su Han.
This man in his thirties was now covered in bloodstains, with his S-grade Firefly tattered and torn, not a single patch of skin unmarred on his body. However, his short hair still exuded vigor, and his eyes, filled with tenacity, surveyed them.
"This is Dantai, the deputy group leader of the Warhammer Team," Su Ameng made the introductions, a bit dissatisfied with their lax attitude; otherwise, Tong Ping and the other two wouldn’t have died.
"Nice to meet you!" Seeing that Su Han’s expression hadn’t changed, Dantai knew the mission items hadn’t been stolen and relaxed. "Go, help them onto the car to rest."
"No need. Where’s your group leader?" Su Han, though straightforward, still possessed the basic wariness of strangers.
"Whatever you need, just say," Tang Zheng poked his head out of the car window, "Let’s leave this place first. Watch out for the enemy making a surprise comeback."
"Heh, with your IQ, can’t you see the enemy won’t appear for at least two days?" Su Han laughed heartily, unwilling to show any sign of weakness. "Did you kill those two Koreans who fled?"
"How did you know?" They were about to call him naturally stupid, but Su Han tricked it out of them with just one sentence.
"Guessed it." Su Han did not dwell on the matter; it was meaningless and could cause discord within the team. Besides, being able to take advantage while others fall behind was a matter of skill, which he greatly admired. The Trojan Horse Game was all about exerting one’s full strength in battle; those who died could only blame their lack of strength.
Dantai gave a thumbs up, appreciating Su Han’s mindset and character.
The red-clothed woman, leaning on her hiding equipment, had come back, hiding in the shadows and watching them.
...
Ai Yixin led the three survivors of the Scorpion Fighting Team, fleeing in a ragged mess through the passage, with a swarming horde of bugs in pursuit.
"It’s over, we’re definitely going to die this time," the tattooed man gasped, his face full of despair. Injuries covered his body and with each step, it felt as if his skin was being scraped by gauze; the bleeding wounds mixed with sweat, causing unbearable pain. The other two weren’t faring much better; days of fleeing had severely drained their strength, and they were on the verge of collapse.
"If only we’d prepared a few more cars," lamented Ai Yixin, whose vehicle had been destroyed, leaving them no choice but to run on foot. They were just half a day away from the laboratory, and it was only due to their caution that they had survived thus far.
"Sister Yixin, please think of something? Set up some bomb traps," Tao Tao pleaded; she didn’t want to die. After days of being together, they had come to respect her completely and were willing to heed her commands.
"We’ve only got a few bombs left," Ai Yixin sighed. Without Tang Zheng, survival was indeed challenging; she wanted to regroup, but with the current strength of her small team, they wouldn’t make it.
Seeing the bug swarm closing in within ten meters, the ’housewife’ hurriedly threw out a remote control bomb. She had learned this from Tang Zheng, but it was a pity it could only delay them for a few seconds. Before the flames from the explosion had even dissipated, the bugs fearlessly charged after them.
"Radar, it’s beeping!" Tao Tao’s face lit up with joy. "Is it our people?"
Tao Tao was too tired to check the radar, but Ai Yixin could still manage. Seeing the green dot on the screen, her mood lifted.
"We’re saved," Ai Yixin picked up pace again, praying and longing to encounter a powerful Conqueror.
"Is it Tang Zheng?" asked the tattooed man, thrilled at the prospect of seeing their captain again.
Ai Yixin didn’t respond, conserving her energy, though inwardly she smiled bitterly. Strong warriors like Tang Zheng and Dantai would definitely have gone to the center of the battlefield; it was unlikely they would remain behind.
"A bunch of trash, do you want to kill me?" Pang Meiqin hid within a carefully constructed protective area, swearing as she watched Ai Yixin’s group approach her position on the monitors. After coughing up a mouthful of blood, she got up.
"Damn it, I have to launch the traps early. I can’t let them bring the bugs here. Yao Feng, wake up, we need to move." Pang Meiqin helped the feverish and injured teenager up and began moving towards another lair.
Pang Meiqin had originally planned to find Tang Zheng, but halfway there, she encountered a team of Death Worm soldiers in power armor. Though she managed to kill them, she sustained significant injuries, especially Yao Feng, who had begun to develop a fever due to an infected wound. Despite this, Pang Meiqin didn’t leave him behind. If not for the boy’s initiative to act as bait, she would not have been able to eradicate the Death Worm soldiers.
"Sorry, Ai Yixin, but you should be able to escape once you unleash your ability," Pang Meiqin pressed the detonator. The bomb traps she had set exploded in sequence, the flames rising and blocking the four’s path. The long-legged stewardess hoped they would retreat and find another way to escape.
"Could it be Pang Meiqin?" The ’housewife’ released the Platinum Queen and charged into the sea of flames, with Tao Tao, now a jelly-like soft substance, following closely behind.
The tattooed man underwent beastification and ran at full speed. The last one, the most miserable, instinctively stopped. His ability wasn’t for defense, nor did he possess the boldness of the tattooed man. This hesitation proved fatal, and when a Camel Bug’s tail skewered his body, he deeply regretted his earlier cowardice.
In such dire straits, a moment’s hesitation can be deadly. So when the creatures devoured this man in mere seconds, he wished he had rushed forward.
