Chapter 98: Unexpected Encounter

"Can we talk now?" Kamille was not really asking for permission, as the initiative was in their hands. It was only a show of respect.

They were already outsiders, there was no need to deepen their offense.

The native sighed heavily. As they were already in this situation, he only had to agree. He also considered this when he decided to talk with these ’outsiders’.

Seeing both could communicate, fighting might not really be the best choice of action. If he really wanted to, he could even fight a hopeless battle. However, the other party never showed any malicious intent since they arrived, which made Zenos also take this opportunity to probe the other party.

"I guess, I’ll listen to you."

With that, the two parties decided to talk more peacefully. At least, without an unavoidable reason, the two sides would not easily shed the pretense of cordiality.

Both turned to a place not too open but not cramped either. As fellow humans from the same world, they did not forget to bring that unconscious Esper.

The four members were not far from them, but it could easily be deduced they would not be part of the negotiation. It was also odd, as Hayes should be the one with Kamille since he was the Vice Leader, but no one asked about it.

No one also found it too strange.

Therefore, the one with Kamille was Rise.

"You said our world is connected to yours through a special gate?" The native asked first, staring into the conversation.

A few steps apart from each other, Kamille sat across from the native. The two did not trust each other, so there was a considerable distance between them. They were all extraordinary individuals, and so they could hear just fine without amplifying their voices even with this much space.

"That’s right," Kamille answered succinctly.

The native nibbled at his lips; this information appeared grave and heavy.

"It seems this world’s situation is getting worse." The native sighed heavily. The pressure of survival was getting through him more than he was willing to accept it.

"So, are you here to raid a burning house?" The native chuckled without humor.

Looting inside the gate—this was not new to them as well.

Kamille stared calmly at the native.

"We’re here to gather information." Again, his answer was always concise, without any vague details here and there. If it was Rise, the native might already have vomited lots of blood due to frustration, and they might not yet have reached the main topic.

The native returned the gaze, only half-convinced, the lingering suspicion was apparent.

Rise propped his chin on his cheek as he watched this conversation. He did not want to interrupt. He knew himself too well; if he did... The conversation was already ruined.

He was never one to converse normally or seriously. That much he could admit.

"Information about what?" The native raised a brow.

"The gates, the nobles." Kamille paused and then stared directly into the native’s eyes. "Everything."

The native’s eyes widened slightly but quickly recovered his composed expression. He exhaled and seemed to fall into contemplation.

This time, Rise did not only wait before he made a decision. This was maybe the last time he would join the discussion, unless absolutely necessary.

"Before that. Why don’t we introduce ourselves first?" Both turned their gazes at him. He smiled softly. "We can’t just call you native, right? And you can’t just call us invaders either. At least, before we enter a more formal conversation, isn’t introducing our identities a more credible way to build trust?"

Rise was only saying nonsense, but honestly, he could also speak more things with sense despite the ulterior motives he had.

Unsurprisingly, the native and Kamille also agreed with him. Rise cleared his throat as he raised his one hand as though introducing him in class.

"I’ll go first, then. I’m Rise Lee."

For some reason, when he said his name, Kamille appeared surprised. Rise actually did not know that Kamille never thought he would be honest. His impression of Rise was well... someone who would not heed certain agreements even if he was the one who created them.

If Rise could hear him, he might cry without tears as this was... so accurate. He was adept at such practices where he only asked questions without returning the same thing or just making things up on the spot.

This was different though, Kamille was involved.

Kamille quickly snapped out of this small surprise and began to introduce himself as well.

"Kamille. Just call me that." Simple words as ever.

The native shifted his gaze to the two, maybe assessing if they were telling the truth. However, he soon laughed at this thought. There was no need to truly deceive him of their names.

The two were strong and probably also the leader of a strong force as well so, if they really only wanted to gather information inside, just like they claimed. Sooner or later, they would meet in a more formal setting, and lying now would be detrimental to that future.

After thinking about it, he also let out a sigh and introduced himself sincerely.

"I’m Zenos. Zenos Lionheart." The way he spoke carried pride and confidence. He might concede out of consideration, but he was a leader of his clan and faction; the surname Lionheart was his blood and soul.

He smiled proudly at the two, his chest puffed up in honor.

"I’m not bragging, but my Lionheart clan is one of the remaining factions in this world. So, if you really wanted to gather information just like you claimed, my words will have weight on the negotiation table."

Kamille’s eyes flickered slightly, staring deeply at Zenos. The gray pupils had never changed. Just with his demeanor, Zenos seemed like someone with a very straightforward personality.

Fortunately, they met him. Just as various thoughts were about to form in Kamille’s head, an abrupt voice snapped him back to reality. Zenos even flinched, startled by such a surprised voice.

"Zenos?" Rise exclaimed slightly; his demeanor seemed to change from the bored one to one of interest. "Your name is really Zenos? Zenos Lionheart?" He repeated, his gaze hot as he looked at this native who introduced himself as Zenos.

Kamille glanced at him, his expression turned dark as he watched Rise look at Zenos with such enthusiasm. Poor Rise, he failed to notice this since he was only waiting for Zenos’ answer.

If he did... Maybe he might make his expression more animated!

Zenos tilted his head slightly; he did not expect such a reaction because of his name. Still, he nodded.

"Yes, my name is Zenos Lionheart."

Rise’s gaze fervently glistened.

What a huge fortune! He just met an important character in that shitty novel. Zenos Lionheart, the second male lead.
