Chapter 96: The Other World (5)

Rise blinked as he chuckled when he remembered those memories. What was Kamille’s answer again? His lips curled as he recalled his exact words.

Kamille had looked at him then, his expression had turned from arrogance to a slightly calmer but colder tone.

"Is that an important question?"

Rise could not help but laugh at that memory. Kamille sounded so casual, as though he had become a different person. At that moment, Rise thought that the answer was already obvious, and he laughed because of how casual Kamille had been.

"What are you doing?"

A familiar deep voice suddenly broke into the silence. Rise’s memories were then put to a stop as he turned around. He remained where he stood, staring at the newcomer.

Just earlier, he was there in his memories, and now the man himself had appeared before him. His expression seemed to always brighten in an instant whenever he saw the other party.

Kamille slowly approached him while not breaking their locked gazes.

"Just I recalled of something." A few seconds of silence passed when Rise finally replied. He reached out and touched the other’s cheek. His tone was soft, "It’s a fun memory."

Kamille lowered his head slightly, moving their faces closer.

"You did look happy."

Rise could not help but giggle at that, his eyes squinting into a slit. "Yes, it’s a happy memory."

His gaze glistened as he recalled the past. Rise stared at Kamille, feeling happier as the man in that happy memory was already with him.

There were few things he was actually regrettable about, aside from the last moments of his life. That was, he had a lot of opportunities to meet Kamille earlier, but he missed all of that.

Kamille lowered his gaze, staring deeply at Rise. It was as if he wanted to read every thought that was inside his mind.

For a long time, no one spoke, and the two only stared at each other. There might already be a tacit understanding between them in that matter.

During that silence, Rise thought that Kamille would ask about that memory. In the end, he did none of that. After staring at each other, Kamille touched Rise’s back.

"Let’s go back."

He turned around first as Rise slowly followed him. It was the rare moment when Rise was not clinging to Kamille, just silently trailing behind him.

Rise stared at Kamille’s back. His back was as strong and firm as it always had been. It always gave the impression of being reliable and dependable, giving security.

"Guild Leader," Rise called in a low tone.

"Mm?" Kamille did not turn around but answered attentively.

Rise swallowed slightly, his hands on his back as he followed Kamille in a leisurely manner. His gaze fixated on Kamille’s back.

He slowly shook his head and chuckled, not continuing with his words. Rise then kept up until he was already on Kamille’s side and naturally grabbed Kamille’s hand and embraced it tightly.

Kamille appeared slightly surprised, turning his head slightly to look at the smiling Rise.

"Let’s go back."

Rise repeated it, smiling so widely that it reached his eyes. Kamille paused for half a second before he nodded.

The two returned to the temporary camp.

Rise glanced at Kamille and thought of what he was about to say. He was meant to say... In most of my happy memories, you were a part of it.

He held back at the last minute. There was no need to break their current situation. This was already enough for his current progress—more than just enough.

While he did not know the reason for this fast progress, maybe... Just maybe, he could truly achieve what he could not in the past.

With such thoughts running through his mind, the two returned to the temporary camp. The house was now clean thanks to the combined efforts of the four members.

After eating dinner, the party finally fell into a slumber. The first day in such a strange yet memorable gate had come to an end.

***

Three days after arriving at the otherworld, the party finally encountered another group of people. And whether it was their luck or not, they happened to meet the natives.

"Invaders?" A man narrowed his eyes as he rested his foot on a man’s body. It was also a human like them, but the energy or mana between them seemed a little different.

There was also a kind of rejection that rooted inside of him as he looked at the man.

"Hey!" The man began to push the unconscious man under his feet. "Who are you?"

"How can he answer you when he’s unconscious?" As soon as the voice sounded, the man abruptly turned his head to the side.

His pupils turned to a slit; a surge of aura instantly surrounded the man. His gaze met someone’s playful gaze, silver hair which slightly reflected against the moonlight, giving a pristine and surreal sight.

Both seemed able to understand each other despite the significant difference in language they were using.

The man soon also turned to the dark-haired man next to the silver-haired man. His pupils shrank further.

Threatening... He was feeling some kind of threat from that man.

The two parties immediately turned to a stalemate, assessing each other. The silver-haired man’s smile did not fade though as he stared at him with interest.

The man frowned, he was slightly displeased that someone would look like him with such a gaze... as if finding him interesting was similar to how humans looked at unknown spectacles.

"You are invaders." The man, Zenos, exclaimed once more.

Rise did not say anything, as Kamille had yet to respond. He only looked at the man before them, his gaze then landed on the unfortunate man under this native’s foot.

"Did you kill him?"

Of course, it was obvious the man was not yet dead, but who knows if he was soon to be one.

The native of this world, glanced at the man at his feet and returned his gaze to Rise’s group.

"I have no obligation to answer your question, invader." His blue pupils were like that of a kitten, but it was probably because of his ability at most.

Since, he was clearly human.

Rise was not offended and only laughed at that answer. He was only asking but was aware that this man did not kill that Esper, at most, they fought each other and the Esper was defeated.

"You are the human of this world."

Finally, Kamille said something. His demeanor was as authoritative as ever, even the native could not help but flinch. Rise took a step back, giving all the stage for his Guild Leader.

Behind him were the four other members; they were silent. Rise glanced at them, his lips curled amusingly at the sight. Hayes was still faring well, but the three’s faces were already pale.

The three could not even look at the native and lowered their heads.

Rise knew why they were acting like this.

It has something to do with that native. His gaze returned to the two in front of him. One was intense and on guard, while the other was calm, almost indifferent even.

Naturally, the latter was Kamille.

Rise stared at the native.

An S-rank Esper equivalent. The moment they arrived there, the man immediately exuded a strong aura; as such, the four other members were immediately surprised and intimidated.

This was also someone who treated them with hostility, and so the man was not holding back at all. If not for Kamille’s presence on their side, which neutralized most of the pressure aimed at them, the four cubs were already on the floor and collapsed.

Rise, who had a natural barrier to such pressure, was not affected.

Moreover, this world also had different utilizations with their mana, and it might come off as oppressive, especially as the native never concealed his power.

The man frowned but did not take the initiative to attack. Rise could tell the man was cautious of Kamille’s presence.

Smart.

Rise praised inwardly. Kamille only looked amiable, but he was never one to tolerate someone who already attacked him.

"You are the invaders." The man repeated once more, frowning heavily. The threat that Kamille exuded was enough for him not to act impulsively, and other than him...

The man glanced slightly at Rise. His heart tightened.

That silver haired man is also not easy to deal with.

Kamille did not deny that. Technically, they were even though they did not inflict massive damage to this world. As they were outsiders, he could accept that term at least.

"We’re outsiders, indeed." Even if he accepted it, it did not mean Kamille liked such a term to label him and the others.

The man bit the inside of his cheek and did not lower his guard.

"Why are you in our world?" His expression only hardened.

Was it the works of those monsters or worse... the nobles?

Zenos just could not help from thinking of the worst-case scenario. This world was already on the verge of destruction, but what could they do? They could only hold on to survive.

The unknown humans’ arrival was not a good sign for him or this world.
