The next morning, the annual guild convention officially started after all the participants arrived. Normally, the week-long convention would only feature various guild competitions, auctions, and the anticipated gathering party on the last night.

This year was more special because of the special gate; the gathering party had now been pushed to the first day instead. After all, every guild that participated would be focusing more on the gate instead.

The gathering now also had to be held in the afternoon rather than the night to give the participants an adjustment and rest before they ventured inside the gate.

"You look quite good," Rise suddenly complimented Hayes out of the blue, which scared the other.

Right, he did not feel happy with this compliment at all; the hair all over his body stood up instead! How scary it was to be praised by the one and only Rise Lee?

To be fair, Hayes indeed looked good this time, and he did not lie. Wearing a suit, his hair freshly styled, and most importantly, he was not wearing his huge glasses but instead chose to use contacts for this special event.

Since, Hayes wanted to be presentable, at least as he would be interacting with actual S-rankers as Kamille’s Vice Leader. This was just his way to boost his confidence a bit.

However, this was Rise. Who would dare receive his actual compliments? Certainly, not Hayes, who knows what was on Rise’s mind.

Especially if... Rise was grinning and looked so refreshed for some reason. He also seemed to be in a good mood.

Wearing a turtleneck and a suit, Rise’s usual unruly hair was styled cleanly, which showed his forehead. His appearance was truly one of a kind, and paired with his huge grin, he would definitely catch everyone’s attention later.

Enough to forget his bad reputation for a moment.

"What’s wrong with you? Ah... I mean... I don’t deserve your compliment." Hayes’ heart sank, afraid that Rise would show his real temper.

However, he was only thinking too much. Rise’s good mood did not diminish. In fact, Hayes doubted someone would dampen his mood at all.

Rise patted his back and laughed, acting so friendly. His eyes were bright and smiling.

"Ease up a little, will you?" Rise then turned to Adelline, who was also silent and looked timid at the side. "Do I look scary? Hayes acted so scared because I complimented him."

Adelline stiffened slightly, surprised that the gaze suddenly focused on her. She was actually uncomfortable, but not with Rise or the gazes but with the dress she was wearing.

She was not used to wearing a formal cut dress; Adelline felt like the dress would tear or something. She had never been confident with her body, feeling like she was not suited to such feminine dresses.

"Ah..." Adelline adjusted the dress slightly and looked at Rise, she shook her head. "You look handsome," she answered honestly.

At this, Rise laughed out loud and glanced at Hayes. "See? She said, I don’t look scary."

Hayes almost scoffed at that. She never said you were not scary; she only complimented you as handsome! The two were different!

Of course, he did not have such guts to say that on Rise’s face, even if he looked to be in an excellent mood.

"I’m curious." Hayes finally could not hold back his curiosity since Rise was practically glowing!

Sure, Rise had this aura in which he always stood out in the crowd whenever he went. However, there was really something different that he could not pinpoint.

Sitting leisurely at the seat, Rise touched his shoulders, which were being covered by the fabric. A smile once more appeared on his lips.

"What are you curious about?" He asked gently, devoid of any playfulness or any mockery.

See! Hayes wanted to shout! This was not the normal Rise at all!

"You... Did something happen to you last night?" Hayes was not one to gossip, but he was dying to know what made Rise this way.

Could it be he had won the lottery or something? However, was that enough for him to be this happy? Hayes could also not imagine Rise trying out his luck on the lottery either.

Even Adelline at the side also paid attention after hearing this question. She also noticed this point, but since she was not yet fully acquainted with Rise, she did not want to pry too much.

At this, Rise bit his lips and laughed as if he were crazy, looking so gleeful.

He rubbed his neck and smiled, "Is it that obvious?"

Adelline on the side only frowned; she could not understand anything at all. What were they talking about? And so, she just returned to sighing and fiddling with the hem of her dress, feeling so conflicted.

Rise noticed the change in Hayes’ expression and laughed harder; he knew what he was thinking. In fact, Rise never thought of being quiet about it.

Even in the past, it was always known how much he pursued Kamille that it had become common knowledge, and no one was surprised whenever he acted so whipped. Suddenly returning to the past, Rise somehow missed this kind of reaction.

Rise rubbed his neck again, which was covered by a turtleneck, and made Hayes look at it. Half a second later, Hayes almost choked and averted his eyes.

If someone could see his thoughts, there might be a huge word of that above his head.

"What are you thinking?" Rise nudged and laughed, "I haven’t answered yet."

Out of habit, Hayes wanted to adjust his glasses, but since he was not wearing one at the moment, he could only touch the space between his eyebrows.

He cursed so much that he even asked! How good would it be to stay oblivious? Now, he became Rise’s number one target to show off!

Hayes’ thinking hit it so right.

Rise began to tease him, wanting to make him answer what he was thinking, which was obvious and he just wanted to hear it!

During that duration, other than Adelline, who was silent and worrying about her dress, Hayes was silent and ignored Rise, who was urging him. They continued like that, waiting for their other members.

Needless to say, Hayes would not be able to look at Kamille and Rise’s interaction as purely innocent anymore. Which was dumb since... Their closeness looked anything but innocent.
