Chapter 63: Wait

This did not come as a surprise to Rise, but the same could not be said to others. They thought and even the staff outside Kamille would take the leadership position, and so they were stunned after hearing this.

"G-Guild Leader," someone from the Union, an A-rank Esper, was first to react. He called with his shaky voice, nervous because of Kamille’s initiating presence.

"This..." He trailed off, "isn’t right..." Perhaps, even he was not sure about what he was saying.

Before he or the others could say anything, before even Kamille responded, an amused laugh suddenly rang out. The attention quickly shifted to the voice’s owner.

Rise standing beside Kamille had already put on his mischievous smile but was filled with unconcealed contempt.

"What isn’t right?" He raised a brow and looked at the Union member. He had an impression of this guy, but not much. Rise did not intend to ponder his identity.

Rise smirked, showing blatant disregard as he clung again to Kamille’s arm. "My Guild Leader doesn’t have any obligations to lead you. Technically, we all have no relations to each other."

The words he wanted to convey were obvious; Kamille did not have any responsibility to babysit them.

Without waiting for anyone to refute, Rise continued, not letting Kamille to even waste his words on these brats.

"So, we all can just mind our own business, alright?" He smiled, looking up and meeting Kamille’s gaze as if wanting praise.

Kamille did not say anything though, but him not doing anything was an answer in itself. Rise could basically do anything. He ignored the brats as if they were not there.

"Guild Leader, let’s go." He excitedly pulled Kamille, wanting to leave immediately and explore the gate.

Before they do so, an enraged shout calls for him.

"Rise Lee!" He shouted with his lungs.

The Esper from the Union felt humiliated by those gazes, especially in front of a lot of elites and a respected Guild Leader. Gritting his teeth, he spat out.

"You never changed your detestable personality that no one could tolerate! It’s truly shameful to even think that you were once a colleague."

Most of the time, no one confronted Rise, but with a height of emotions, these sudden impulses to voice out hatred far outweigh the fear. Just as he was about to say something more, he suddenly felt his body going stiff.

The words became stuck in his throat, almost choking him, he could not even breathe. His knees weakened, wanting to collapse on the ground.

Just one cold gaze, it almost paralyzed him.

Kamille’s cold gaze met his, calm but deep.

Rise also stopped the mocking words that were about to come out of his mouth. He could only look at Kamille, falling into a rare silence. His arms around Kamille tightened, embracing his arm fully.

Kamille glanced at the man for about three seconds before he averted his gaze and swept with the other, only sparing the two Guides that were with them.

Cold sweat dampened their backs, not daring to make a sound. It was as though they were not higher-ranking Espers but mere ants under those deep gazes.

Kamille’s gaze then returned to the Esper earlier.

"We’ll part ways here," He repeated what he said earlier and added, "Don’t follow us." Words tinged with underlying threat.

Kamille turned around about to leave. Rise, who fell silent, also followed with a smile on his face. He did not even spare another glance at the people they left behind.

As he said, they did not have any obligations to them. This was a semi-public gate, and to each their own. Not because they entered together; they had to stick together.

While walking away, Rise could not help but look at Kamille’s face again. It was odd; he was already immune to insults, and he even began to think of punishing those who provoked him as a pastime when he was bored.

Still, when Kamille stood up for him, the warmth always spread through his heart. He loved every second of it. Even before, even if Kamille did not convey his support through his words, Rise always felt it, more impactful than mere words.

"Thank you, Guild Leader." Rise expressed his gratitude, smiling sweetly.

"There’s no need to." Kamille’s gaze was only fixated ahead of them but lightly glanced at Rise as he said this.

The two already left behind the group, unconcerned about their plans.

Rise laughed, unsurprised. Kamille truly never changed.

As a B-rank gate, the monsters inside were not even enough to land a scratch on them. Kamille did not even need to do anything as they all crashed inside Rise’s forcefield, shattering into pieces.

They continued walking, unaffected by their surroundings and the corpses they left on the path.

As a deal, it was Rise’s call, and so Kamille only let him lead them whenever he wanted to go or whatever he wanted to do. Walking aimlessly, Rise raises another question.

"What do you think of me, Guild Leader?"

"Hmm?" Kamille not expecting this, quickly turned to Rise.

Rise chuckled at the obvious stunned expression and explained.

"I don’t know, I suddenly became curious." Rise’s sincere words stunned Kamille even more.

Truly, Rise was curious. Even in the past, he did not manage to ask this from Kamille. What does Kamille think of him? Could it be the same as others?

He was not someone who cared about others’ opinions, but Kamille was not in the same category as others. He seemed indifferent but Rise cared, sometimes even a little too much.

Kamille did not answer for a while, as if pondering what Rise meant by this question, not the actual answer itself.

Rise patiently waited. He was not nervous but instead, calm settled within him. Did he not have any expectations? No, on the contrary, Rise more like could accept everything from Kamille.

"You’re someone I can’t understand," Kamille replied after a few seconds.

It was Rise’s turn to be confused. He tilted his head slightly, but he did not interrupt Kamille’s train of thoughts and waited.

The corner of Kamille’s lips lifted slightly, seemingly amused by his own thoughts.

"You’re suspicious." Rise almost wanted to laugh at this. "There’s a lot of these mysterious and suspicious points around you. Yet, I think, I can tolerate that much."

Kamille finally laughed; he also did not know what he was saying. As he met Rise’s gaze. "It doesn’t matter what I think of you or the others; for now, you’re Rise, my personal guide."

Rise knew Kamille did not fully answer his question in its entirety, but he agreed. He was so satisfied with it.

Impressions or whatnot, Rise was here to stay, so... It did not really matter. His gaze glimmered as he stared at Kamille.

Gosh, I can’t wait to make you mine.

Kamille’s gaze also deepened, as though he knew what Rise was thinking.

As though challenging him... urging him to do so.

Make me yours... I’ll wait.

Rise became aware at that point, the wall... did not exist.
