Chapter 58: Unrecorded (4)
Before they decide to leave, the massive flesh has undergone another change once more. Both he and Kamille watched as the flesh shrank even further until it was only the size of a normal adult.
"Does it want to say something again?" Rise guessed.
The flesh was still as unsightly as it had been, but it did not make Rise nauseous anymore.
"It’s trying to give us something." Kamille probably was informed, and answered Rise’s question.
"What is it?" Kamille took his gaze from the flesh and turned to Kamille.
Kamille continued to spectate what the flesh was doing, his gaze carried an unfathomable deepness for some reason, gray pupils fixated on the pulsating flesh.
"It’s prime essence."
Rise abruptly shifted his gaze back to the flesh. It’s prime essence, huh? Truthfully, he did not know the extent of its significance, but by the name alone, it might be so important to also gain Kamille’s attention.
Finally, the flesh released a small drop of blood, shining as it flew, and stopped in midair in front of the two. It only floated for about two seconds before it solidified and dropped, falling automatically into Kamille’s hand.
Rise leaned closer and looked at the drop of blood with growing interest.
"What does it do?" He reached out without thinking and touched it. He expected something, but he did not feel any reaction or sense of something unique with it.
This drop of blood... seemed ordinary.
"Is it just blood and not a magical ingredient or artifact?" Rise frowned, skeptical.
What was it used?
Unlike him, Kamille looks at the drop of blood with a meaningful gaze. The corners of his lips lifted slightly, and soon shifted at the flesh, which significantly had been weakened.
He expected that this flesh could maintain this gate for three months at most before dying.
"Here," Kamille handed the solidified blood to Rise, who passively took it, not knowing what his intention was. He gave a small smile and explained, "It’s for you. It said so."
Then, why was it automatically dropped to you if it’s for me?
Of course, Rise did not voice it out, and instead, he grinned, happy to have this gift. Although it was a useless blood, for now.
"Thank you, Guild Leader! Well..." Rise, then halfheartedly look at the flesh, "Thank you to you too, I guess."
The heart thumped loudly as if answering.
Under their gaze, a light shone from the ceiling. Just like the flesh promised, a path had been created. A hole was suddenly created above them.
"Weird," Rise looked up, holding the cold, solidified blood, and could not help but comment. "It feels strange that we arrive here underwater, but there’s no water pouring inside."
Of course, in a gate, everything could happen. However, somehow, a logic like this one was a few rare ones. Rise still could not understand how they spent most of their time swimming in this gate.
"Would you prefer to swim instead?" Kamille’s question almost makes him shiver, recalling that horrible experience.
"Uh, I’m not complaining. I’m just amazed." Rise clung to Kamille’s arms as if afraid that if he said more, Kamille would immediately request the flesh to change their exit just to tease him.
Kamille was not terrible, but still... Rise did not want to push his luck.
Kamille glanced at him, a ghost of a smile playing on his lips. He found this Rise really endearing, although each side of him made him intrigue either way.
The two did not linger more, as they already achieved what they had come here for. Although no one expected everything to turn out this way. They did not even fight any monsters but... Rise admits this gate left him a deeper impression.
Perhaps, he also had to work on his endurance in the future. He had an overwhelming power, an aspect he always focused on. However, this gate made him realize that not all gates would require power.
Certainly, in his fight for his fate and the unknown author in the future, Rise would need more than just power.
After bidding farewell to the unknown flesh, the two flew from the gaps in the ceiling and left the cave, which also soon closed after they passed through.
Immediately, they found themselves in another part of the gate. There was no muddy swamp or bottomless lake. Kamille only flew for a couple of minutes before they reached the ground as they stepped on it.
Rise roamed his eyes around and noticed some changes.
"There’s miasma now," He looked up and saw a black miasma in the air. It only lingered on the atmosphere for now, but soon it might engulf the whole gate.
This further confirmed that the flesh would not live long.
"Guild Leader, how about... Let’s just walk to the exit?" Rise suggested with a gentle smile, returning to his shameless self.
He did not even care if his troublemaker or villain image had been tainted in Kamille’s eyes. Rise was just being himself.
Kamille’s chuckle resounded as he responded. "It’s your call."
Truly, flying to the exit was much faster, but if Rise did not want that, it was fine. The two then continued and walked in the direction of the exit, with Rise still clinging to Kamille.
While walking, Rise finally managed to look at his condition, or more like at the dirty clothes. Although they were not soaking anymore and the mud had been cleaned off, there were still signs of dirt, and it made him uncomfortable.
"I’ll shower as soon as I get home," Rise muttered, not intending to voice it out loud, but he could not care less. "This gate only stressed the fuck out of me," He continued grumbling about how dirty he was as they traversed through the ruined gate.
Kamille just listened to him, and gradually, his gaze became soft with an obvious smile in his eyes.
Adorable... Kamille thought of this word and nodded.
The two walked together at a leisurely pace. It truly felt like they were dating inside the gate, ignoring the environment around them.
After a while, the two paused, or more like only Rise, smelling a fight. He loved fighting, but he also loved watching fights!
"Guild Leader, there’s a fight." Rise pointed, and sounded excited. They could just pass by, but their presence would still be noticed as they had to pass the two groups.
Kamille, uninterested, just gave a nod. "It’s a public gate."
A fight was normal inside; small guilds, mercenaries, and wild espers, they all wanted resources, and stealing from others was normal practice.
Continuing, Rise still observed and soon stopped again.
Kamille was being dragged by him, but he never complained once. As though taking his "your call" words a little more seriously. Rise also did not notice this point; he was used to Kamille being compliant with his whims.
"Eh?" Rise blinked, and his gaze landed specifically on a woman with a good figure in the crowd—truly eye-catching indeed!
Of course, that was not the reason the woman caught his eye.
Sister Zhan!
Rise shouted in his mind. The oldest of their party, Zhannea Yang!
