Chapter 55: Unrecorded (1)
Rise could swear he had never seen such a peculiar gate node before. Not to mention... disgustingly huge.
In the center of a huge cave lay a huge mass of flesh, pulsating as if alive. Huge veins protruded around it, blood clearly evident within. Its size was so enormous that it occupied most of the huge cave.
With his jaw parted, Rise could not help but swallow. He then moved closer to Kamille, leaning closer for support.
"Wow... That’s a monster."
Right. It was not merely a gate node but a monstrous node! It was a monster! Rise also did not feel scared, so he sought Kamille’s protection, but he felt disgusted.
His stomach was not that sensitive, but looking at this mass of piled flesh, he almost wanted to retch.
Averting his gaze, he prompted to look at Kamille’s handsome face, erasing the unsightly image in his mind.
"Guild Leader," he called, feeling his eyes being cleansed in an instant. "I feel like vomiting right now."
Kamille also shifted his gaze from the mass of flesh and turned to the complaining Rise.
He then motioned to the side. "You can do so,"
Rise pursed his lips, both staring at each other.
Finally, he clarified. "I’m not saying, I’ll really vomit, but more of just I feel I might do so."
Kamille’s brow slightly furrowed, not knowing what the difference was.
"Hmm," he nodded, then continued, "you can vomit when you feel like it." His tone was calm and assuring, as if to say he would not judge.
Rise blinked, finally speechless. After a few seconds of pause, a rare one from him, he spoke again.
"Well, I won’t really do so. Anyway... That flesh, that’s the node, right?" Desperate to divert the attention, he voluntarily shifted the topic to the main issue, which was the node.
Usually, he was the one who would never dive straight into the main issue, mainly wanting to be with Kamille more.
Kamille did not immediately answer his obvious attempt to change the question but asked once more. "Are you really sure you won’t vomit?"
Rise almost closed his eyes in embarrassment. Sometimes, even his thick skin could never help him if he was talking with Kamille.
Exhaling heavily, he smiled, albeit obviously fake. "Guild Leader, can we just... Can we just move on? I promise, I won’t vomit. So... Can we talk about the node now?"
Kamille stared at him deeply, as if assessing his condition and if he were telling the truth. Rise’s fair skin was still as rosy and healthy, although his complexion seemed redder. Overall, he seemed really fine without any signs of wanting to vomit.
Confirming this, Kamille also returns to the main issue. He shifted his gaze again to the mass of flesh. It was an enormous one, the type that no one would overlook in the slightest.
His expression remained composed, unaffected by the peculiar and disgusting sight.
"It’s the gate node," Kamille confirmed, even if aware that Rise could tell the first time.
Rise fought the disgust and also looked back at the node.
Gate Nodes did not have a consistent form. They could be anything. However, they all have similar attributes: strong concentration of mana and space attributes.
As nodes served as an anchor of the gates to this world, they naturally have the space attribute in them, and being the control power, it could store lots of mana.
Rise swallowed, gradually becoming accustomed to its grotesque form. He followed Kamille as the other began walking towards it. Clinging tightly to Kamille, Rise quickly stopped worrying about the repulsive sight and the stench.
Soon they arrived at the foot of the node.
Thump! Thump! Thump!
The beating sound of the mass of flesh became louder as they approached it. Around the node was a pool of reddish-black blood, connecting to the mass of flesh.
"It’s truly alive." Rise’s eyes blinked with curiosity. It felt strange.
He had never seen an alive gate node. Or was it really alive?
His observation suddenly paused as he watched Kamille reach out his hand and attempt to touch the mass of flesh.
"Guild Leader?" Rise almost stopped him.
He bit his lips and could only watch when Kamille’s palm finally touched the surface of the flesh.
For him, the flesh was truly disgusting. There was no way he would touch it!
"How... How is it?" Is it slimy and gross? He bet it was.
Kamille did not answer for a while. He was only staring and touching it.
"Uh, Guild Leader?" Rise called after a few minutes when Kamille offered no response. If something was wrong, he would instantly drag Kamille away from that thing.
Fortunately, Kamille responded soon after.
His eyes flashed as he lifted his head and seemed to look at the flesh’s overall form.
"It said something..." Before Kamille could say anything, Rise accidentally interrupted him out of shock.
"What? This disgusting thing can communicate?" Rise seemed to find that very repulsive for some reason. He only realized it when Kamille turned and looked at him.
"Ah... Oh, sorry, my bad. Please continue." He smiled and acted cute, hugging Kamille’s arm, and asking for forgiveness.
Kamille did not seem displeased when Rise interrupted him. He only nodded and continued. "It said, it’s not supposed to be here." His voice sounded low, as if he could not quite believe it.
Not to mention an alive gate node, but it could even communicate, albeit confused.
It was not the same for Rise, though. Somehow, his expression changed slightly, becoming serious.
"What does it mean?" Rise inquired. Deep inside, his heart skipped a beat.
For some reason, he got some premonition. Rise suddenly became nervous.
No, it was impossible. Perhaps, it was not connected at all. It was just a coincidence. Rise did not think this gate node was related to him or anything in his past.
Kamille slowly withdrew his hand. He shook his head and turned to Rise, deeply watching him.
"I don’t know what it meant. Maybe... you can find out."
Rise’s heart sank slightly, but he did not show it in his expression. Of course, he remained serious and did not laugh it off; otherwise, his nervousness would become obvious.
"How come?" Rise could not say for sure, and he had no clue how to react, so he ought to just ask a simple question.
Kamille shrugged. He pointed to the mass of flesh.
"You can touch it," he suggested.
His gaze never left Rise.
Rise, who would mostly feel disgusted at the thought of touching that mass of flesh, did not give a strong refusal this time.
Instead, he readily agreed.
"Well, I’ll try." Rise finally let go of Kamille’s arm and stepped forward, reaching his right arm and touching the flesh.
Rise did not notice though, Kamille’s deep gaze was still fixated on him all this time, his thoughts unknown.
