As soon as Rise put the mask on his face, it instantly stuck on his skin, not out of place in the slightest. He touched his face, and the sensation was not really different from his skin.

Almost at the same time, Kamille had also equipped his mask. Rise looked at him and saw that everything was covered on his face beside his eyes, and he knew that it was the same for him.

Looking at each other for a moment, both eventually nodded, indicating they were ready. At some point, Rise’s hand slid down from Kamille’s arm and just resorted to holding his hand.

Kamille also did not let go and instead tightly grasped it. Though Rise knew it was only to prevent Rise from getting lost once they were already underwater. His heart still could not help but skip a beat.

He glanced at Kamille and smiled, even if the other would not be able to see his smile. The two stared at each other for a few seconds.

Again, Kamille nodded, to which Rise also responded with a nod.

With Kamille’s lead, they finally submerged underwater. Rise was so thankful for this mask; otherwise, he might not focus on swimming at all, but he made sure nothing would touch his face even if he used all his ability to the fullest!

Fortunately, he did not have to do that.

After a while, Rise finally realized the difference as soon as he spent a minute underwater. Although there was still mud in the water, which made the visibility significantly lower, it was not full of mud like he experienced so far.

What also surprised him was that it was truly deep. Rise felt like he was truly swimming in a bottomless lake. Just what kind of disparity was this?

If he had not known, he might not have connected it to that muddy swamp.

The destination was wholly in Kamille’s hands. Unlike him, who was practically blinded under this muddy lake, Kamille’s eyes were more special.

And so, they did not need to worry about getting lost.

The journey underwater could be described as nothing short of boring. However, Rise still felt it was nice. He might not be able to talk with Kamille all throughout, but being with him still made him feel at ease.

When they seemed to be swimming like forever, even Rise began to feel exhausted. He did know that they would need to swim for so long!

After some time, it finally reached the point where Rise needed to use his mana not to activate his ability to actually keep him going. Who would have thought that he would come to this point where, to be able to swim, he needed to spend mana?

What the fuck is this muddy lake? Rise gradually and get frustrated. Just for how long did they need to swim to get out of this hell?

For him, this was truly the hell! He neither can talk nor flirt with Kamille; he could not even think of anything but just to keep swimming!

He did not even know for how long they were swimming underwater or how deep they were. He could just surmise that they were in an indescribable depth, swimming in a direction he did not even imagine.

What the hell was this? Rise began to concentrate more on keeping up with Kamille, holding his hand tightly.

Hours passed, or perhaps days. Rise eventually became out of touch with time, or that he could not care less about counting anything.

All that was on his mind was... swim.

Rise felt like he was in some kind of endurance test, a terrifying test that he only had a fifty percent chance of overcoming. He had never thought that this seemingly harmless but extremely disgusting swamp was capable of almost folding him. To make him suffer a willing defeat.

Fortunately, this underwater mask could help him breathe underwater. However, it was hard to say if he could keep his sanity or if his mana reserve would surrender first.

In a seemingly endless darkness, Rise finally saw the light. He was not always dramatic or religious, but he only wanted to bow down and worship this light from giving him salvation.

Before Rise succumbed to this light completely, he felt a soft sensation meet his lips, claiming them completely. Rise thought to protest, but his body seemed too familiar and attached to the owner of these lips.

Even if his mind seemed to want to protest, his body was more obedient, offering himself and quickly letting the invader explore and conquer him.

Usually, with this kind of aggressive kiss, which is similar to a predator actively devouring its prey, one would be unable to breathe, Rise did not feel any of it.

Instead, he found himself being invigorated, rather than his breath being sucked out of him, air began to pour into his lungs, giving him his seemingly long-lost sense of self.
