Chapter 22: Perfect Compatibility

Kamille looked surprised, but he did not push Rise or move away. It was unknown if it was because he was not his rational self or that he did not dislike what Rise was doing. Perhaps, it was the combination of both.

They were so close that, as their skins touched, Rise could even embrace Kamille if he wanted to.

He did not do that. He was still looking up; his right hand was on Kamille’s left cheek, while his left had slid down and wrapped around the other’s nape.

In this position, it was almost like they were embracing each other, or more like it was Rise embracing Kamille.

Rise stared at those cold yet mesmerizing crimson eyes. He actually seen it countless times; he had also been stared at by the same pair of pupils, and yet, each time, Rise felt he was being pulled into the other’s world.

And each time, Rise did not resist.

He smiled assuringly, stroking Kamille’s nape gently. With it, his calming wavelength continued to soothingly guide his Guild Leader.

It was not just the simple and ordinary wavelength of a Guide either. There was something else, a novelty that most certainly would cause uproar in the federation if it were known.

Rise’s guiding wavelength seemed gentle, but it only applied to the wavelength that Kamille was exuding. In fact, Kamille’s esper wavelengths were so chaotic that any normal Guide’s wavelength making contact with them would be polluted or, worse, devoured.

That was how tyrannical it was. Similarly, Rise was matching that same wavelength. If one could see how their wavelengths mixed, they would be surprised at how harmonious and compatible it was.

Both are wild but complement each other. In the history, was there ever a case like this? No.

Kamille blinked, his crimson eyes flickered, and the crimson hue was slowly fading. The rationality was also returning to Kamille’s consciousness.

The wavelength of a Guide was always not enough to really calm the rampaging mana inside of him, Kamille knew that his compatibility with most Guides was extremely low. Even if the wavelength compatibility from the machine says a higher number, he was aware it was not the case.

Maybe, to his wind ability, it was. However, wind was not even his main ability. Kamille’s core as an Esper was this black fire, something he did not even want to use.

He was always been a dual-ability Esper, although those who became aware of it, died.

In his years as an Esper, Kamille had yet to encounter someone who could Guide him completely. He did not even know what it truly felt like.

Once, they said, being Guided was like the most refreshing and sought-after sensation for an Esper. It was like finally inhaling comfortably after their lungs had been blocked for a long time.

Kamille could never relate to that. For him, a Guide seemed to not work. He did not feel the same sensation either. It was as if, they could only scratch the surface of his skin, suppressing the rampage level of his ability.

It was still there, just suppressed.

However, at this moment, Kamille felt like all of the cells in his body were alive. For the first time, he could sense the pervasive but yet gentle wavelength, exploring and calming him.

The accumulated mana toxins that had been suppressed inside him for years were being cleansed.

This kind of feeling... Kamille could not describe it.

He was only sure of one thing... This was more than just refreshing and comfortable, like how the other Espers described it.

Rise did not break their eye contact, marveling at Kamille’s relaxing expression. Yes, Kamille’s expression was changing; the emotionless gaze suddenly became gentle, and the furrowed brows were quickly smoothed out.

He always loved this kind of expression of his, the way he knew that the other party liked what he was doing.

Almost a minute later, Kamille’s eyes regained most of their rationality.

He was more than just surprised. He expected to rampage, and injure himself before the fire he ignited was burned until exhaustion. It was always like this, whenever he used this ability.

Probably, after being disappointed for not being able to kill the members around the whirlpool he created, he would set his eyes on the wolves and beasts around.

The him with this ability was always like that; it was just synonymous with a walking disaster. It was as though, after being sealed for a long time, this ability wanted to cause chaos to vent its resentment as much as possible before it was sealed yet again.

He never expected... Someone could calm him, to actually Guide him at this moment.

Kamille could not help but look intently at the troublemaker Esper... no... His brow was once again furrowed. Rise... was not just an Esper.

It was obvious. He was also a Guide.

This fact was also surprising, something that was never recorded yet in the history of humanity after the gate appeared.

Their eyes locked for a while, Kamille having a lot on his mind but not wanting to ask yet, not wanting the pleasant sensation surrounding him to disappear.

Rise was the same, and he was also concentrating since Kamille at this time had too much hidden danger as an Esper, his wavelength was too chaotic. It was a wonder how he had never rampaged before with all these accumulated toxins within him.

He needed time.

In the end, Kamille could not stop his curiosity. He was also slightly suspicious. How come it was such a coincidence? It was not that he was suspecting Rise. However... The way he reacted, it was as though Rise had anticipated it.

Rise seemed so sure, he could Guide him.

You need me.

Kamille’s consciousness was hazy earlier, but his memories were still intact. He recalled what Rise said.

It was actually the truth. From the perspective of an Esper, Kamille needed Rise, a Guide who could really Guide him and not just prevent the inevitable.

When it comes to compatibility... Kamille seemed to finally meet the perfect Guide for him.

Too perfect, even. This Guide could not only guide him as he wields his wind ability but also his core ability, the black fire.

"Who are you?" Kamille’s voice was still deep and hoarse, still the aftermath of using his core ability after such a long time.

Rise’s lips hooked up, somehow flirtatiously, and he stroked Kamille’s cheek. He anticipated this; Kamille would inevitably be suspicious of him.

"I’m Rise Lee..."

Kamille narrowed his eyes, looking deeply at Rise.

"You know, that’s not what I’m talking about." Kamille unconsciously moved closer, his head leaning closely to Rise. He whispered, "You... What are you?"

Thinking this question did not sound right, Kamille swallowed slightly, his Adam apples bobbed. For some reason, this closeness and intimacy... He found that he did not dislike it.

He knew that it was because of their wavelength compatibility, and the fact that they were still having a guiding session. There was a reason that an Esper and Guide could act intimately with each other.

Rise’s lips faded slightly, not because he hated this. He loved it so much, in fact. It was that... Kamille being this close... It was inevitable that he would have a reaction.

He bit his lips, and mist suddenly lingered in his eyes. He also moved closer, almost stumbling Kamille, but the other instinctively held Rise’s waist, and balanced himself so they would not fall.

Now, they were really hugging each other.
