Chapter 150: Home (2)
Rise blinked; he lifted his gaze and shared a glance with Kamille.
He laughed and stood up before lifting up Riri and carrying him.
"Who said? Our Riri can eat whatever he wants, right, Guild Leader?"
Riri also looked expectantly at Kamille, biting his lips nervously. He was just too cute. Rise suppressed his desire to pinch those cheeks again since it was Kamille’s moment.
Kamille did not make Riri anxious more than he already could, as the little one was obviously nervous around him.
"Just eat; no one will stop you."
Riri’s round black eyes lit up as he smiled excitedly.
"R-Really?"
Rise laughed, and so did Kamille.
"Of course, we have lots of money to support you."
At this, Riri’s smile widened, making his plump cheeks more prominent.
This time, Rise did not resist and leaned forward, giving the cheeks several kisses, which made Riri laugh because of how ticklish it was.
His laugh seemed to heal all their fatigue at once.
Kamille smiled looking at them, his heart feeling at ease.
Right, this was home.
The family of three did not care about the outside world at all; the others who were already about to come down as well paused as they witnessed this.
In the darkness, Eubin also blended even further into the darkness, lowering his sense of presence.
Looking at the three, they only had this one thought... Don’t break the precious moment.
Hayes saw Kamille’s expression for a moment before he shifted his gaze. He then released a relieved breath.
His Guild Leader...
He’s genuinely happy.
This left an impression on him. He never thought he would feel grateful, but...
Hayes looked up and smiled.
Thank you, Rise Lee.
You’ve got one less hater from now on.

"Wow, I missed this." Rise slumped to his bed.
Oh, it was not his bed.
It was Kamille’s!
He smiled foolishly, stroking the mattress as he lay down with his stomach, breathing the natural scent that came from Kamille still lingering on it.
Rise forgot his surroundings for a moment, relishing this opportunity like some kind of breathing monster.
"What, what are you doing?" A soft voice asked.
Rise lit a gaze, meeting small round ones, looking at him with curiosity.
A smile automatically appeared on his lips as he cooed at such cuteness.
"Come here; let’s lie down for a bit."
Riri hesitated, but Rise patted the mattress next to him.
"Don’t worry, Guild Leader won’t be mad." He whispered softly, knowing why Riri was hesitant to come.
Sure enough, hearing this, he approached the bed and let Rise hug him. For a while, the two fell in such comfortable silence that Riri almost fell asleep.
The little one found out that Rise’s hugs were not as uncomfortable as they seemed.
"Why are you scared of Guild Leader, Riri?"
Rise asked, tone soft, voice low and hoarse.
When Riri looked up, he was only met with Rise’s closed eyes. His eyelids also felt heavy, and he leaned his head to Rise’s chest.
"I’m not scared," Riri denied and shook his head.
"Really, our Riri, isn’t scared?"
Riri nodded his small head.
"What then?"
"I, I’m just... nervous."
"Nervous?" Rise opened his eyes slightly and looked at Riri’s face, stroking his hair.
That made sense though; Kamille’s presence was too intimidating sometimes.
"Why?"
"He... He’s too bright." Riri honestly answered, as always. Rise did not interrupt, and so the little one continued. "But at the same time, it’s so dark."
Bright and yet dark. Both were opposite and did not make sense, but when it came from Riri, it suddenly made sense. Riri was not a normal child or monster; he could see through the glimpse of fate.
"It’s like blinding you?"
Riri nodded.
"But, but, it’s fine now because my abilities are sealed."
Rise hummed softly, saying he understood.
"I said to not look at the fate of others while we’re gone; did our Riri obey my instruction?"
"I, I did."
Rise smiled and patted Riri; it continued until the other’s breath became even, indicating he was fast asleep.
"He’s not scared of you, Guild Leader."
As he said that, the door of the bedroom opened. Kamille was standing just outside for a while now. His sense of hearing was good, so he heard the conversation.
Rise also deliberately made sure Kamille heard of it. The bed moved slightly, and he felt a warmth behind him. He naturally lifted his head, allowing an arm to snake through, using Kamille’s arm as his pillow.
Now, the three of them were lying in Kamille’s bed.
"I suspect as much," Kamille whispered, breath brushing along Rise’s nape.
Rise closed his eyes again.
"I’m sure, Riri will warm up to us soon."
Rise did not hear any response, but a kiss landed on his nape, which made him smile.
He looked at the little one, sleeping peacefully on his arm, and then felt the secure warmth behind him.
Suddenly... He never thought he would have a feeling this way.
"I only thought he’s cute." Rise stroked Riri’s hair fondly. "And he’s ability is useful."
At first, he only looks at Riri as a cute pet. He was fond of abducting cute monsters from gates, just like how he raised his baby behemoth.
Riri was also intelligent and so an enigma among lower-level monsters—a wonder why he was among the monsters in a lower-rank gate.
It was already a bonus that his ability was truly useful, like he acquired a little Halwyn, with more accurate prediction even!
Suddenly, they were in this situation.
Familial affection—he never thought of such feelings. With his adoptive father, he always ignored it. Then, or now, he wanted to ignore it.
"But," Rise smiled and hugged Riri tighter. "It’s not bad... having this feeling."
Was this a fondness for cute monsters or a short-lived affection for an unknown feeling?
Who cares.
"Guild Leader, do you feel it too?"
His question was not very specific, something the others would not understand the first time. Yet he had the feeling Kamille could understand him.
Kamille breathed and pressed his chest to Rise’s back even closer as he reached out his hand for an embrace, extending to Riri’s.
"We’ll protect this."
Home.
And so the three fell asleep like that.
