In This Rebirth, The Male Lead Is Mine [BL] -
Chapter 145: Human
Chapter 145: Human
Full Speed!
Rise sat on the ground, his hands stroking his pet as he consoled it through the link.
Just endure it for a bit; I’m sorry.
With Kamille’s help, they managed to double their speed.
"Ahhh...Ugh..."
The members behind felt their hearts about to tear their chests; they groaned in pain, breathing heavily as they collapsed. Dan felt the same, but tears only sprang from his eyes without warning.
Rise and Kamille could not be bothered about them, continuing with their task. The ground also seemed to become furious as it also sped up.
The contract of their path was beginning to catch up as well. Rise felt the pain and exhaustion of the behemoth. He only gritted his teeth, steeling himself to console it through the link.
Kamille’s gaze darkened even further; the wind gathered, although it truly lacked a certain way for the wind to gather much underground.
They were already at a speed where the behemoth could not keep up anymore, only being pushed by the wind. The blood on their path only increased.
When will this end?
Rise screamed inwardly in frustration. Where would be the point that the plot stopped and be considered success? Wait, was it really possible to change it?
Due to his exhaustion and frustration, doubt began to seep in.
No. He shook his head. I can’t continue thinking pessimistically like this.
There must be a turning point, a point where the world stopped pursuing at some point. They only need to search for that point... or endure it until the world finally could not chase them anymore.
One minute... or two... or maybe an hour or two?
Rise did not know exactly when...
But one thing was certain and more important.
"Haah..." Rise let out a breath, heaving a sigh of relief as he went limp and almost lied down on the ground, only to feel a firm chest on his back. He turned slightly, exhaustion written on his face, but there was a bright gleam in his eyes.
"Guild Leader... We did it." Rise could not even lift the corners of his lips for a smile, but his eyes already did.
They were shining brightly.
Kamille stroked Rise’s hair soothingly and nodded.
"Yes, we did."
[Correcting Corrupted Record... Failed.
Error! Error! Failed. Failed.]
[Deleting Corrupted Records... Failed]
For a moment, the group inside the behemoth’s body fell into silence.
Rise did not know... His influence might be more than just changing the trajectory of their destiny.
***
"I’m so sorry," Rise stroked the body of the behemoth, a bucket of medicine on his hand as he continued putting them on its wounds. "Yes, it’s my fault. I’m sorry, I won’t do it again." He cooed; his tone was truly like talking to a child.
The behemoth, even with its huge body, looked like a puppy as it whined to its owner, crying for its wounds. It’s tail curled up, sometimes wagging slightly.
In a way, Rise did raise it like a puppy.
"I’ll give you a huge meal, a really huge meal." Rise compromised, talking with his baby, consoling and soothing it. Feeling so distressed.
The behemoth only whined and let Rise stand atop it as he brushed its body while putting the medicine he concocted himself. He was too busy to care for others, only caring for his pet’s wounds.
"Guild Leader Han," Dan called, already processing the shock after recognizing their saviors. He glanced at Rise’s side, but only for a moment before returning to Kamille.
His... or like their shock was more apparent when they saw Rise than seeing Kamille. The other did not pay attention to them and started tending to his... pet.
Kamille did not glance at him, watching Rise intently. Despite that, Dan continued.
"Why did you save us?" Dan did not think just because they were from the same world; he was not naive to think that way.
And with what they experienced along the way after their escape, it seemed more life-threatening than the pursuit of the natives. There was something with it that he could pinpoint, but Dan figured out that sending them out of that place was no easy matter.
"Do you need something from us?"
This was the most logical reason. Dan glanced at the members behind, resting, and had yet to recover from their wounds and the pain that they felt during the journey.
They just escaped the brink of death, so it was not unusual that they seemed out of it yet.
Kamille did not answer immediately, making one think he did not hear Dan. His gaze and attention did not leave Rise.
After a while, he responded.
"He will make the arrangements. And..." Kamille glanced slightly at Dan, making the latter straighten, a chill running through his spine for some reason. "...I didn’t save you, Rise did."
His tone lacks any emotion, too calm to even be called human. After saying that, Kamille seemed to become impatient just by watching as he began to approach Rise, leaving Dan.
Rise did...
Dan took a deep breath and stared at the two who just appeared out of nowhere and saved them; his eyes naturally landed on Rise. The man whom a large number of Espers would feel terrified just by the mention of his name... was now putting a medicine on his pet, cooing like a pet owner would towards their beloved pet.
He seemed... human.
Dan could not find the same Rise in his memory.
The Rise in his memory... Dan felt the memory still vivid.
Rise was a figure famous even before he graduated from the institute, both from his ability and reputation. Dan just happened to witness one of his iconic ’scandals.’
It was five years ago. Barely graduating from the institute, Rise was already sought after by Guilds, ultimately choosing the Esper Union.
A wild laughter resounded in the whole camp; a gate had just opened then. Dan was also one of an intern from a small guild, scraping by for a commission.
He was but a small figure, lucky enough to even enter the gate alongside such notable figures.
It was then...
A huge impact was felt, and before his eyes could react, a group of teenagers were already collapsed on the ground; the table was in ruins.
Even the veteran Espers were shocked, unable to react for a moment.
And at the center of it, standing as he wore a mocking grin.
Rise’s hair then was not yet pure silver with some patches of white sticking out; his features still had the hint of immaturity, but his eyes shone seemingly indifferent to worldly affairs.
He looked down at the teenagers, wearing the same uniform as him.
"Why the Union let useless things like you all accompany me?" Rise sighed in disappointment. "Oh, I know!"He clapped his hands. "All of you are sons of huge figures in the Union..." He pointed to each of them. "Useless... bastards."
"Rise!"
"How dare an orphan!"
Their pride was stamped on, planning to counterattack, but before they did, Rise was already in front of them.
"Uhhhkkkk..." He rested his left foot at the one teen in the center; it looked simple, but everyone knew his ability.
Rise’s foot, or body, for that matter, was anything but soft.
"I told you, I hate hearing my name from filthy mouths? It makes me feel disgusted. I want to vomit." Rise was smiling, but his eyes told otherwise. Chill crawled through the teenager’s skin.
Their eyes shrank, beginning to tremble. The man under Rise’s feet already began to shed tears, calling him names.
"Ah, seriously. Truly useless."
Dan saw just how he never cared about the wellbeing of the teenagers, even though he knew they were sons of influential figures in the Union.
"Hey... stop that."
A veteran Esper seemed unable to watch it anymore, planning to intervene in the fight of ’teenagers’.
That was then... Dan stepped back, and so did the others. He could never forget that gaze, even though it was not directed at him. It was a gaze that seemed incapable of holding human emotions.
"Huh?" Rise turned, look at the Esper, gaze devoid of any emotion despite the smile lingering on his lips. "You saying something, old man?"
The esper first took a step back, seemingly threatened by the gaze, but then his face contorted when he heard what Rise said next. After all, no Espers, especially in front of colleagues, would want to be insulted by a new Esper no less!
"You think you’re bigshot?" The Esper clenched his teeth, not caring if someone would call him petty for fighting a youth after this. "Your parents seemed to have failed to educate you, so let me do it to you, boy."
Rise only look at him, as if looking at someone so stupid, he could not be bothered with. Yet his gaze narrowed before he laughed.
"Old man... Didn’t you hear?" Rise smiled so widely it looked so terrifyingly unsettling. "I’m an orphan, so I don’t have parents."
Before the man could react, everyone specifically. Rise was already in front of the man as he punched the man’s face. Not caring for seniority or whatnot.
"Uhhhkkk!" He groaned; his body flew across the wall. The people eating there began to escape as debris fell. The esper’s jaws dropped, and so did Dan.
He felt so terrified, and yet... He could not help but admire Rise’s prowess.
Rise’s every step seemed to make a kind of vibration on the ground, everyone feeling the gravity of it.
"Hey, old man," he bent slightly, slapping the man that was now impaled through the wall, in between unconsciousness. "Not anyone could teach me... manners."
Rise then straughtened; he swept his gaze at the onlookers, who averted their gazes, shocked. Dan was late for a second, and their gazes met.
Startled, Dan quickly avoided and lowered his gaze. His heart was thumping so bad.
Silence stretched until Rise’s figure left everyone’s sight. Dan could not help but look to the door where Rise left.
Just like how he looked into Rise’s gaze then, Dan was now looking at Rise.
However, there was a huge difference.
Rise as he converses with Guild Leader Kamille Han...
He was human.
