Chapter 296: Black Code Patients

Chapter 296: Black Code Patients

Due to a fire in Sector C and the enemy’s sudden attack, it caused a large number of guards, soldiers, mercenaries, and ordinary people to be injured. Because of the limited medical resources and insufficient medical staff, many patients were lying on the floor along the corridor without anyone taking care of them.

Zhu Lin glanced at the patients and found that they all had a black ribbon tied around their wrists. On the way to the hospital director’s office, Zhu Lin’s frown deepened. When she opened the door to the office on the fourth floor, she saw Lu Cai busy talking to the other doctors.

"Prioritize patients with red codes and patients with yellow codes. As for those with green codes, let the nurses take care of them and then send them back." Lu Cai said as he looked at the report in his hand.

"What about the black code patients?" A doctor asked in a serious tone.

Lu Cai paused for a second and replied: "Give them painkillers."

After hearing what he said, all the doctors knew that he was going to give up on those black code patients, and their expressions changed. Even though they all knew that Lu Cai’s decision was the best for their current situation, as a doctor, they still felt bad when they needed to give up on their patients and watch them die without doing anything.

Sensing the solemn atmosphere in the office, Zhu Lin knocked lightly on the door. Hearing the knock on the door, Lu Cai and the other doctors turned to look toward the door.

When Lu Cai saw her standing there, he looked at her with a smile, and asked, "Miss Zhu, it’s already so late, why are you here?"

Zhu Lin walked into the small office and glanced at the report on the table. Seeing the names listed on the report, she asked, "What does a black code patient mean?"

"This patient’s chance of survival is only five percent or less. In emergency situations such as lack of medical supplies and insufficient medical staff, they can only rely on their own luck." Lu Cai answered after a moment of silence.

After listening to his answer, Zhu Lin thought for a while and said, "Since you have decided to give up on them, then I will take care of them. Please help me move them to the operating room on the third floor."

As soon as she said this, the doctors looked at her in surprise. Since she had never appeared in the hospital or treated anyone in public, Lu Cai and the doctors all looked at her with doubts.

After a few seconds of silence, Lu Cai asked, "Miss Zhu, are you a doctor?"

Zhu Lin shook her head and said calmly: "I’m not a doctor, but I can cure them."

After hearing her calm answer, everyone showed expressions of disbelief.

Before Lu Cai could refuse, a female doctor quickly said, "Teacher, since we have decided to give up on black code patients, why not let Miss Zhu try to treat them. At least with Miss Zhu here, they still have a chance to survive."

As soon as she said this, the small office fell into silence. Zhu Lin looked at their expressions, tapped her fingers on the table, and said, "Hurry up and decide. Those people’s lives are in danger, but you are still standing here doing nothing."

Lu Cai looked at her when she said this. After being torn between the doctor’s professional ethics and the desire to save the patient, Lu finally said, "Move the black code patients to the third floor."

With his permission, the doctors hurried away with smiles and hopes on their faces. Before Zhu Lin left the office, Lu Cai said, "Miss Zhu, thank you. Regardless of the final outcome, as a doctor, I greatly appreciate your help."

She turned to look at him and said, "I’m just trying to help. All lives have the same value, and we should not give up on them."

After leaving the office, Zhu Lin walked down the emergency stairs. When she opened the emergency door, nurses were busy pushing patients on stretchers. Seeing her coming, a doctor said, "Miss Zhu, the black code patient is already in the waiting room."

Zhu Lin nodded and said, "Mhm. Let’s get started."

After saying that, Zhu Lin walked into the operating room and cast a cleansing spell on herself and the operating room. Standing next to the operating table, she looked at the two nurses waiting for her order and said, "I don’t need help here. You two can go out and help the doctor."

The nurses were stunned when they heard her words, but quickly left the operating room to prepare the next patient. After the operating door behind them closed, Zhu Lin opened the patient’s clothes and saw that his whole body was covered with fourth degree burns.

She took out a small jade bottle from her spiritual palace, opened the bottle cap, and poured the divine spring water on the wounds. When the divine spring water touched his wound, the patient subconsciously let out a soft groan.

"Uh..."

Looking at his frowning eyebrows, Zhu Lin said, "Relax, you will be fine after a while."

Hearing her calming voice, the patient slowly relaxed. As the cool feeling spreads throughout his body, the searing pain slowly dissipates and his ragged breathing becomes regular. Two minutes after Zhu Lin started the treatment, she pressed a button on the wall and called the nurse. Soon, a nurse opened the door and rushed in.

"Miss Zhu, do you need anything?" She asked breathlessly.

Zhu Lin looked at her sweaty face, pointed at the patient and said, "Move him to another room, and then bring the next patient in."

The nurse looked at the patient who was lying on the operating table, and was surprised to see that the patient was sleeping soundly without even a scar on his body.
