Chapter 1113: Chapter 389 Uninvited Guest

Li Ping’an had just found his master and a few Intercepting Sect Celestial Maidens at the restaurant when news arrived.

[The Queen Mother of the West sent a fairy from the Jade Pool to announce an edict, offering gifts and conferring the title of ‘Kunlun Divine Martial General’ upon Lady Ba. She is granted unrestricted access to the Western Kunlun Secret Realm and is established as a role model for the Jade Pool Fairies.]

Luo Xuejing, who reported this matter, softly reminded:

“Your Majesty, it seems the Queen Mother is trying to suppress Lady Ba.”

Li Ping’an, who had just picked up his chopsticks and gazed at the table filled with rare delicacies, suddenly lost his appetite.

He asked perplexedly, “When did this happen?”

Luo Xuejing replied, “About the time you arrived in Dong’an City.”

Li Ping’an found himself at a loss for words.

The Jade Pool’s petty schemes… well, they were something else…

At the table sat a few additional female immortals from the Intercepting Sect — Shi Ji, who came looking for Immortal Huanglong only to find he had vanished; Qiongxiao Celestial Maiden, who had come to play with Guilingling; and Mother Wudang, the Holy Mother clad in her signature white gown. In their presence, Li Ping’an thought it unwise to voice his complaints outright.

He asked, “How did Lady Ba respond?”

Luo Xuejing said, “Her Highness Lady Ba accepted with a smile and even sent a return gift to the Queen Mother.”

Li Ping’an pried further, “What kind of return gift?”

Luo Xuejing, a high-ranking Golden Immortal, hesitated and stammered softly, “A—a piece of cured meat… It’s said to be…”

Li Ping’an: …

The warfare between women truly had terrifying nuances.

Qing Su, focused on eating, appeared puzzled and asked curiously, “Why send cured meat? Isn’t cured meat meant to be eaten?”

Mother Wudang and Shi Ji exchanged a knowing smile as the underlying subtleties became clear to them.

Suddenly, Guilingling exclaimed, “Huh? Just noticed—why has your cultivation level advanced a notch, dear disciple nephew? You’ve nearly reached the seventh-grade Golden Immortal already!”

Li Ping’an spread his hands nonchalantly and didn’t hide it: “The Human Race has its own wondrous dual-cultivation techniques.”

Guilingling’s young face lit up with shock and admiration as she gasped, “What! You dual-cultivated… with Lady Ba?”

Li Ping’an looked exasperated, “Don’t shout, don’t shout!”

Qing Su froze for a moment.

Her right hand, holding a jade chopstick, slightly paused mid-air before she calmly picked up a piece of steamed Spiritual Root and chewed it delicately.

Guilingling was about to tease Li Ping’an further but was gently tugged by Mother Wudang under the table. She obediently closed her mouth.

Qing Su suddenly asked, “Have you figured out how you’ll explain all this to Ningning?”

“Hmm,” Li Ping’an paused, “I’ll be straightforward and hope for leniency.”

“Let me talk to her for you,” Qing Su said. “Several individuals had previously approached me, persuading me to advise you to accept General Lady Ba as a means of stabilizing the morale of the Human Race army. You’re in a difficult position on many fronts.”

“Master…”

“Just eat,” Qing Su interrupted softly, lowering her gaze and continuing to pick dishes. Her frosty demeanor betrayed no emotion.

Luo Xuejing quickly shifted topics: “Your Majesty, the Queen Mother of the West previously invited you to visit the Kunlun Secret Realm. Are you planning to go?”

“Not for now,” said Li Ping’an. “I’ll send the Jade Pool a gift instead and immediately return to the Misty Realm for closed-door cultivation.”

When it came to official matters, Li Ping’an’s thoughts quickly cleared, and he sternly instructed:

“Luo Immortal Official, stay in the Eastern Alliance to assist my father. He’s going to be busy, so you’re permitted to summon thirty Immortal Officials for support.

“Also, inform Feng Jigui. From now on, the Heavenly Square Pavilion’s primary investigation target will be the hidden micro-worlds of the Western Sect that still provide karmic merit to the Inner Heavenly Dao. For every sacrifice made by the pavilion, compensated families will receive two or three times the reparations, and their descendants will have the privilege to enroll in the Heavenly Emperor Academy.

“Additionally, if my father faces trouble but doesn’t wish to tell me, make sure to send word to me privately.”

“Understood!”

A smile appeared at the corner of Luo Xuejing’s lips, and her eyes sparkled with determination.

Suddenly, she said, “If this humble servant remains in the main world, then Your Majesty will lack a Heavenly Square Pavilion intelligence officer by your side.”

Li Ping’an said evenly, “Nominate two candidates.”

“Yes,” Luo Xuejing asked cautiously, “Pardon the question, Your Majesty, but do you prefer a woman or a man?”

“A man,” Li Ping’an said with a wry smile. “A male officer would be less likely to stir suspicions. I have to start paying attention to my reputation in these matters.”

Luo Xuejing immediately replied, “I will issue the order to the Heavenly Square Pavilion to propose suitable candidates.”

With that, Luo Xuejing bowed deeply, extended her salutations to the Intercepting Sect veterans at the table, and hastily withdrew.

Li Ping’an picked up a piece of slightly unsightly spirit-fish meat and found it to be a flavor he’d never encountered before—surprisingly delicious.

Mother Wudang smiled and said, “Your Majesty, there is another matter. Senior Brother asked me to inquire with you.”

“Please, say it without reservation, Master Wudang.”

“Does the Heavenly Court still want the Dao Soldiers of the Western Sect? We’ve intercepted several batches outside the heavens, totaling more than two million.”

“Oh?”

Li Ping’an’s eyes lit up:

“Of course we want them… but this time, I assume the Intercepting Sect refrained from shattering any micro-worlds, yes?”

“Naturally, we would not dare destroy them lightly,” Mother Wudang said with a soft laugh. “Senior Brother said you can settle this per our original agreement regarding karmic merit allocation. It didn’t take much effort on the part of the disciples.”

Li Ping’an said, “Send the Dao Soldiers directly to the Misty Realm. However, the merit distribution will need to wait until the Inner Heavenly Dao turmoil is completely resolved.”

Shi Ji sighed and said, “Those Dao Soldiers are truly pitiable. They were originally created as a malformed counterbalance to the Human Race’s immortal troops. When the demon-monster coalition was routed, the ringleaders of the Western Sect abandoned those Dao Soldiers in the Void, leaving tens of thousands dead or wounded.”

Li Ping’an remarked, “The suffering of sentient beings is often the cruelest of all.”

As they conversed, Immortal Huanglong suddenly arrived from the southwest, riding the clouds. Before stepping through the door, he shouted loudly, “Ping’an! Your Majesty! Something terrible has happened!”

All the immortals’ expressions changed, and they immediately rose to look toward Immortal Huanglong.

Nearby, some Qi Cultivators of the Human Race who had been secretly observing the scene also felt a surge of unease. Having just endured calamities in the East Continent, battles with the Northern Continent Sky Slaves, and the Western Continent war, hearing the phrase “something terrible has happened” naturally triggered an intense reaction. They feared yet another major crisis was unfolding.
