Chapter 1484: Chikai
Chapter 1484: Chikai
A few days after Yuga obtained the Audino Mega Stone, Mewtwo and Joyka finally completed their joint analysis of the drug that had been injected into the two Deoxys and successfully produced an antidote.
On the morning the antidote was to be administered to the Deoxys, Yuga and Chimecho were both present.
Watching as Mewtwo slowly injected a vial of green liquid into Deoxys No. 1, both Yuga and Chimecho were extremely nervous.
"This antidote isn’t going to cause any problems, right?" Yuga couldn’t help but ask after Mewtwo finished the injection.
"Hmm... Actually, I’m not sure. Theoretically, there shouldn’t be a problem." (`_)ゞ Mewtwo thought for a moment and answered honestly.
It had indeed created the antidote, but it was based purely on the analysis of the drug’s composition and hadn’t been tested—meaning it was all theory and no practice. After all, the conditions for testing didn’t exist, so they could only treat the dying horse as if it were alive.
Hearing Mewtwo’s response, Yuga said anxiously, "When you say it like that, it doesn’t exactly inspire confidence."
Mewtwo replied, "I don’t feel very confident either."
Yuga: ...
But since things had come to this point, they had no choice but to follow Mewtwo’s treatment plan.
After injecting the antidote into Deoxys No. 1, Mewtwo didn’t immediately proceed with No. 2, instead quietly observing No. 1’s condition while taking notes.
About half an hour later, Deoxys No. 1’s body twitched twice and then slowly opened its eyes, immediately seeing Yuga and Chimecho standing nearby.
Am I dreaming, or am I already dead? That was the first thought to flash through Deoxys No. 1’s mind upon regaining consciousness, until Yuga and Chimecho’s voices rang in its ears.
"Deoxys, you’re awake—that’s great!"
"Deoxys~"
Looking into Deoxys No. 1’s now-clear eyes, Yuga knew the frenzied state caused by the drug’s side effects had already faded.
Deoxys No. 1 instinctively tried to rise and float, but it had only just lifted its upper body before it collapsed back down weakly, its head throbbing with waves of pain.
The drug it had been injected with specifically targeted the mental power of Psychic-type Pokémon. Even with the antidote, the strain on its psychic energy was still intense, and it was impossible for it to fully recover right away.
"Don’t try to get up yet—your body is still very weak!" Mewtwo promptly stopped Deoxys No. 1 from getting up again.
"Exactly, Deoxys, you’ve just woken up. No need to rush to move. What’s most important now is rest," Yuga quickly advised as well.
Only then did Deoxys No. 1 realize that it wasn’t dead—and this wasn’t a dream.
"Why am I here?" Deoxys No. 1 asked, its voice lacking strength due to its still-recovering body.
So Yuga recounted the whole process of how they had encountered each other.
While they spoke, Mewtwo stayed off to the side, constantly working—mainly to help Deoxys No. 1 recover its severely depleted physical state.
Deoxys No. 1 knew Mewtwo was treating it, so it lay there quietly without resisting, letting Mewtwo "tinker" with it—being examined by strange instruments one moment, injected with medicine the next... It went on like this for quite a while before it finally ended.
Once it was confirmed that the effects of the drug had been completely purged from Deoxys No. 1’s body, Mewtwo finally began treating Deoxys No. 2 with confidence.
Over half an hour later, Deoxys No. 2 also successfully regained consciousness. This allowed Deoxys No. 1 to finally breathe a sigh of relief, since No. 2’s condition had been more severe than its own.
Deoxys No. 2 was, in the truest sense, meeting Yuga for the first time this time around. However, it was not unfamiliar with Yuga, because back when it was still just a core, even though it couldn’t move or communicate with the outside world, it was conscious and aware that Yuga had helped it and Deoxys No. 1.
Not long after, Deoxys No. 2 also finished its treatment. At that point, Yuga had more or less learned the reason behind the suffering of the two Deoxys.
Originally, Deoxys No. 1 had been traveling around the Kanto region carrying No. 2’s core, searching for a way to help No. 2 regain a body. Surprisingly, it actually succeeded in doing so. However, No. 1 didn’t know at the time that they had long since been targeted by others.
Just as No. 2’s body was newly restored and it was still in an extremely weakened state, members of Team Rocket appeared and forcibly captured it.
By the time No. 1 returned and found out No. 2 had been taken, it tried to rescue it, but Team Rocket used No. 2 as a hostage to threaten it.
As a result, both No. 1 and No. 2 fell into Team Rocket’s hands and were taken to one of their laboratories.
In order to gain control over them, Team Rocket tried many methods, all of which failed. In the end, they decided to use drugs as a means of control.
Deoxys No. 2 was the first to be injected with the drug. As soon as the injection was completed, it immediately lost consciousness. After that, Team Rocket began injecting No. 1.
However, just as the drug was halfway injected into No. 1, an unexpected event occurred—the League discovered the location and launched an attack on the base.
Interestingly, this whole event was closely connected to Yuga. It was thanks to the intel Yuga had turned in from Ariana that the League had been able to find this secret laboratory.
Of course, the Deoxys didn’t know about this, so they didn’t mention it, and naturally Yuga was unaware of his role in the matter.
When the League attacked the laboratory, chaos broke out. The person in charge panicked and tried to secretly smuggle the two Deoxys out.
Deoxys No. 1, having only received half of the drug injection, hadn’t lost consciousness. Being clever, it endured the pain and pretended to be unconscious, fooling the person in charge. At the right moment, it seized the opportunity and escaped with the unconscious No. 2.
After escaping the lab, No. 1 continuously used Teleport to flee. Its mind was already groggy at the time, and it had no idea how many times it had used Teleport, nor in which direction it was heading.
Eventually, after who-knows-how-long, it too fell unconscious.
The rest of the story Yuga had already heard from Manaphy and Zapdos—how the two Deoxys fell from the sky while unconscious and were encountered by the patrolling Manaphy and Zapdos.
After waking up, the two Deoxys, affected by the drug, lost their sanity and attacked Manaphy and Zapdos. The rest, of course, led to their encounter with Yuga and the others.
After learning of the Deoxys’ ordeal, Yuga thought to himself: Team Rocket again!
Team Rocket was becoming more and more active lately and was capturing Legendary Pokémon all over the place. Yuga was extremely puzzled—just what exactly was Giovanni trying to do?
Since the two Deoxys were still weak, Yuga didn’t talk with them much. He gave them a few brief instructions before leaving the Ghost House sub-garden, deep in thought.
Although the drugs in their bodies had been purged, follow-up treatment still needed to continue.
After leaving the Ecopark, Yuga planned to head to his new shop’s workshop to practice making Pokéblocks and incense. But just as he passed the store, he suddenly heard someone calling out from behind him.
"Are you Mr. Shimizu?"
Yuga turned around and saw a young man in a white suit looking at him with a bright, cheerful smile.
The young man appeared to be in his early twenties, with medium-length light blue hair. He was about the same height as Yuga, but much slimmer in build, which made him look especially tall and slender.
Yuga thought for a moment and felt that he hadn’t seen this person before, so he asked in confusion, "And you are?"
The young man smiled and introduced himself, "My name is Chikai. I’ve liked YoYo Day Care for a long time and have always wanted to buy a high-potential Pokémon from here. Unfortunately, the Pokémon here are always too popular, so I could never secure a spot. But I got lucky this month and finally grabbed a slot!"
Hearing the young man named Chikai say this, Yuga suddenly remembered—it was already a new month, and today happened to be the day customers with reservations came to meet the Pokémon.
"I see... Well, congratulations then!"
Just as Yuga said that, he saw Duoduo walking over with a Flabébé. It turned out that the Pokémon Chikai had reserved was precisely this Flabébé that had just been put on the listing this month.
Seeing Duoduo and Flabébé approaching, Chikai said to Yuga, "The Pokémon I reserved is here, so I won’t keep you any longer, Mr. Shimizu."
After saying that, he turned and walked away. It seemed like he had only approached earlier just to introduce himself to Yuga, and Yuga didn’t think much of it and heading straight off to the new store.
Around noon, when Yuga returned from the new shop, he found that the young man named Chikai hadn’t left yet. He was still playing with Flabébé. The bell-like laughter of Flabébé echoed through the store, and the human and Pokémon seemed to be getting along extremely well.
As soon as Yuga returned, Chikai seemed to be getting ready to leave. He handed Flabébé back to Duoduo and happened to bump into Yuga on the way out.
"Mr. Shimizu, you’re back!" Chikai greeted Yuga naturally.
Yuga nodded and said, "Yeah, looks like you and Flabébé are getting along pretty well." He said casually.
Chikai responded, "I really like Flabébé. I didn’t even realize the whole morning flew by. If it weren’t for lunch, I wouldn’t want to leave at all!"
Yuga just smiled and said nothing, and Chikai waved goodbye and left.
As Yuga passed the counter, he saw Sister Suzuki Koen still busy, so he said, "Sister Koen, it’s time for lunch now. Eat first and finish your work after."
Suzuki Koen looked up and saw it was Yuga. Then she lowered her head again to continue her work and replied, "I’ll go in a moment, just want to finish this bit first."
Suddenly, Yuga asked, "By the way, were you the one who handled the reservation for that customer?"
Suzuki Koen replied, "Yes, I did. Why?"
"Ah, it’s nothing." Yuga shook his head. "Just wondering... do you know someone named Chikai?"
Suzuki Koen didn’t even have to think and immediately answered, "Of course I do. Don’t be fooled by how young he looks—he’s actually one of YoYo Day Care’s long-time customers!"
Through Suzuki Koen’s explanation, Yuga finally learned that this Chikai had been a customer of YoYo Day Care even before Yuga had crossed over to this world. Apparently, his starter Pokémon had been bought from the Day Care. All of this could be clearly verified in the Day Care’s past sales records.
Later, after Yuga took over YoYo Day Care, he reformed many aspects of the business, and Chikai became an even more devoted fan of the Day Care.
Suzuki Koen seemed to have a very good impression of this Chikai. Seeing Yuga bring him up, she couldn’t help but say a few more words about him.
After finishing, Suzuki Koen asked curiously, "Boss, why did you suddenly bring him up? Did something happen with him?"
Yuga shook his head and said, "Nothing really. I just ran into him earlier and casually asked."
"I see." Suzuki Koen didn’t ask any more after hearing that and went back to finishing the bit of work she had left in hand.
From then on, Yuga settled into a steady daily routine. Every morning after getting up, he would first visit the Ecopark to check on the Pokémon’s training progress, and then go to the new shop’s studio to practice making Pokéblocks and incense.
After lunch, he would read books or watch online tutorial videos for a period of study, usually focusing on Pokémon breeding.
Once study time was over, he would return to the studio at the new shop to continue practicing.
Finally, at night, after returning home, he would go to the Ecopark again to check on the recovery status of the Deoxys.
In short, Yuga’s life became extremely well-organized and routine.
The Deoxys recovered very well. Although still a bit weak, they were already able to use their psychic powers and had no major issues with flying. The only thing they couldn’t do yet was teleport.
In just a short period of getting along, the two Deoxys actually developed a deep friendship with Mewtwo, which Yuga hadn’t expected at all.
Mewtwo was rather cold-hearted and rarely made friends with other Pokémon, so Yuga never thought the Deoxys would be the ones to win its approval.
However, what Yuga didn’t know was that the reason Mewtwo grew close to the two Deoxys was because it was very interested in these two undocumented Pokémon and often asked them to cooperate with its research.
As for the Deoxys, they saw Mewtwo as their lifesaver and also knew it was Yuga’s Pokémon, so no matter what Mewtwo asked of them, they cooperated without hesitation.
And just like that, the three Pokémon slowly formed a harmonious relationship.
It’s worth mentioning that the young man named Chikai came to YoYo Day Care every day right on time, and he got along exceptionally well with Flabébé. Flabébé had practically already acknowledged him as its Trainer and was simply waiting for the assessment period to pass before leaving with him.
That day, as Yuga returned from the new store, he was surprised to find that Chikai wasn’t there as usual. At the same time, he received a phone call from Beidou saying someone was waiting at the Gym for a challenge.
Yuga had originally planned to come back for lunch, but after receiving the call, he didn’t bother with eating and rushed straight to the Gym—after all, it wasn’t right to keep a challenger waiting, especially since Gym battles required a reservation in advance.
However, when Yuga arrived at the Gym, he was shocked to discover that the challenger was actually Chikai. He was already standing on the battlefield, waiting for Yuga.
When he saw Yuga enter, Chikai maintained his ever-present smile and said, "Gym Leader Shimizu, I’m in your care today."
Usually, Chikai addressed Yuga as "Mr. Shimizu," but today, he had switched to calling him "Gym Leader Shimizu."
