Chapter 1483: Mega Evolution
Chapter 1483: Mega Evolution
After coming to an agreement with Primarina, Yuga and the others boarded the Ghost Ship and set off quickly toward home.
Before leaving, Yuga treated the injuries of Manaphy and Zapdos. Earlier, the two had taken quite a beating from the two Deoxys and had suffered numerous wounds.
Manaphy was still doing okay. It had a healing-type move, Aqua Ring, so it could hold on without much issue. But Zapdos wasn’t so lucky. No matter how badly it got injured, it could only grit its teeth and endure.
Once the healing was done, the two sides parted ways. Manaphy and Zapdos still needed to continue their patrol across the seas, while Yuga and his group had to hurry back home to treat the two Deoxys.
With Dusknoir and many other Ghost-type Pokémon pushing the Ghost Ship to its full speed, the return trip took only half as long as the journey there.
As soon as they got home, Yuga brought the two Deoxys to Mewtwo.
Originally, Yuga wanted to take them to Nurse Joy, but on second thought, he decided it was better not to scare her. If news about the two Deoxys from the battle got out, it would bring all sorts of trouble. The two of them currently had no way to protect themselves.
If Mewtwo couldn’t handle it, they could still consider sending them later.
After the two Deoxys fell unconscious, there were no visible injuries on their bodies, which made Yuga even more focused on trying to figure out why they had gone berserk.
When Mewtwo saw Yuga and Nana bring in two unfamiliar Pokémon, it was very surprised—and also very interested.
Deoxys, being a special Pokémon from space, was something Mewtwo had never come into contact with before.
"Hurry up and come help!" Yuga shouted at Mewtwo.
"What happened to these two Pokémon?" Mewtwo walked over and asked.
Yuga briefly explained the situation with the two Deoxys, and after hearing it, Mewtwo immediately called over two Metagross to carry the Deoxys onto two separate operating platforms. Then it frowned and said, "Their condition seems a bit artificial..."
"Artificial?" Yuga asked in surprise.
Mewtwo continued, "Let me examine them first. We’ll talk once I’m done checking."
With that, the bodies of the two Deoxys were soon covered in various wires and cables, then pushed into diagnostic pods. At the same time, full-body scan images of the Deoxys appeared on the screen in front of Mewtwo.
These devices were all equipment Yuga had retrieved from Team Flare’s secret lab.
Using the diagnostic pods, Mewtwo scanned every part of the two Deoxys’ bodies without missing any details. The brain region, in particular, received special attention.
There was a high chance their rampage was caused by a mental problem.
Very quickly, Mewtwo discovered that the mental states of both Deoxys were indeed abnormal. Their mental energy fluctuations were extremely unstable.
Under normal circumstances, the mental fluctuations of Psychic-type Pokémon are very steady. During scans, they form a very regular wave pattern.
The difference lies in the frequency of those waves: the stronger the mental power, the faster the frequency. But overall, the waves are always very orderly.
However, the mental wave patterns of these two Deoxys were different. Their frequencies were not only excessively fast, but also completely chaotic and tangled like a mess of threads.
After Mewtwo explained all this to Yuga, Yuga anxiously asked, "So can you figure out the cause?"
Mewtwo replied helplessly, "Don’t rush. Let me finish the full checkup first."
At that moment, the doors of the diagnostic pods opened, and the two Deoxys were pushed back out. Mewtwo then began extracting tissue samples from their bodies for further testing.
Yuga didn’t understand the equipment Mewtwo was using, so all he could do was watch it and its assistants busily working with the machines. Sometimes Mewtwo would frown, sometimes nod, completely immersed in its task, to the point it seemed to forget Yuga and Nana were even there.
Nana waited for a while. Feeling impatient, she eventually left the lab, while Yuga kept waiting for most of the day. His dinner was even delivered by Doudou.
Of course, Yuga ate outside the stone fortress. He didn’t dare eat inside Mewtwo’s lab—things in there were handled with great care!
Partway through, Chimecho also came over and stayed with Yuga until midnight. It was very concerned about the condition of the two Deoxys.
Around two in the morning, Mewtwo finally completed the examination of the Deoxys. Looking slightly tired, it held the test results and said to Yuga:
"The test results are in. If nothing went wrong, then they were likely injected with some kind of drug. As I expected, it was definitely man-made."
"A drug?" Yuga asked in surprise. "What kind of drug?"
"I can’t say for sure what the exact drug is," Mewtwo replied, "but it should be some kind of potential-unlocking stimulant—and the side effects are severe. Their madness is the best proof."
Yuga continued asking, "Is there any way to remove the side effects of the drug?"
Mewtwo fell into thought for a moment and said, "I still need to think about that. Until I have a clear understanding of the drug’s composition, I can’t make any conclusions lightly."
"Chimecho~ Chimecho~"
At that moment, Chimecho chimed in, asking how the two Deoxys were doing.
Mewtwo reassured it, saying, "Don’t worry. I’ve given them a sedative. They won’t be waking up anytime soon, and their condition won’t worsen further."
In truth, that potential-unlocking drug had done severe damage to the bodies of the Deoxys. At this point, their bodies had already been pushed far beyond their limits.
However, Mewtwo did have a solution for this type of situation, so it didn’t tell Chimecho everything. Heatran had once been in a similar condition, and now it was full of life again, wasn’t it?
After Mewtwo’s explanation, both Yuga and Chimecho let out a sigh of relief.
Mewtwo then said, "Alright, you two should head home for now. I need to rest as well. Later, I still need to continue analyzing the composition of the drug. Once I have the results, I’ll let you know."
The drug still had a large amount of residue left in the Deoxys’ bodies, and Mewtwo had already extracted a portion of it.
"Okay, then we’ll get going. You rest up!"
After saying that, Yuga took Chimecho and left Mewtwo’s laboratory.
After rushing around in a hurry for so long and then waiting half the night upon returning, Yuga was indeed exhausted. Once he got home, he washed up briefly and collapsed into bed, falling asleep instantly.
That night, Doudou came to check on Yuga once. Seeing him sleeping soundly, it quietly left the room.
The next morning, Yuga slept in until well after sunrise. After eating breakfast and lunch together, Mewtwo summoned him over.
As soon as Yuga arrived, Mewtwo handed him a sheet of paper covered in dense symbols and text, most of which Yuga couldn’t understand.
"What is this?" Yuga asked, puzzled.
"Give it to Miss Joy. She’ll understand it once she sees it," Mewtwo replied.
This was a chemical analysis sheet of the drug’s components. But Mewtwo was unsure about a few parts, so it thought to consult Joyka.
Mewtwo was incredibly smart—anything it learned, it mastered quickly—so the scope of its knowledge was vast. When Yuga couldn’t satisfy its curiosity, he would introduce it to other experts. Joyka was one of them.
Although they lived close by, Mewtwo and Joyka rarely met in person. Most of their interactions happened online.
Besides the form, Mewtwo also gave Yuga a vial of red liquid. The bottle was no bigger than a thumb. This, too, was for Joyka.
"Oh, I understand. I’ll deliver this to Joyka right away."
After leaving the Ecopark, Yuga headed to the Pokémon Center and gave Joyka the form and the vial of liquid that Mewtwo had handed over to him.
Joyka had already communicated with Mewtwo in advance, so when she received the analysis sheet and the liquid, she didn’t ask any further questions. She went straight into her own lab and told Yuga he could go back home—she would handle the rest of the communication with Mewtwo herself.
When Yuga returned home, he just happened to run into Masato Shirai at the door.
Surprised, Yuga asked, "Director Shirai, what brings you here? Is there any progress with the case?"
Being asked that by Yuga, Masato Shirai looked a little awkward, because the case had made no progress at all. So he could only wave his hand apologetically and say:
"No... no... I came today for something else."
"Then let’s talk inside," Yuga said with doubt in his heart as he invited Masato Shirai into the shop.
Once they were inside the reception room of the shop, Masato Shirai took out a box and handed it to Yuga.
"This is...?" Yuga asked, his face full of confusion.
Upon hearing that, Masato Shirai opened the box. Inside it lay none other than the Mega Stone that Yuga had handed over earlier.
"This Mega Stone is now yours."
Masato Shirai followed up by explaining the reason.
It turned out that this was a reward for the intelligence Yuga had previously submitted, which he had obtained from Athena. That information played a very important role in helping the League crack down on Team Rocket.
However, since Masato Shirai didn’t know the full story, he didn’t go into much detail.
After hearing the explanation, Yuga said, "But wasn’t this Mega Stone poisonous?"
Masato Shirai laughed and said, "You don’t have to worry about that anymore. The toxin has already been removed by the League’s experts."
Only then did Yuga take the box with peace of mind. This box wasn’t the original one that had held the Mega Stone—the previous one had been destroyed because it was contaminated with poison.
"This is a Mega Stone for Audino. Don’t you have an Audino at home? It suits you perfectly," Masato Shirai added.
"But... I still suspect that person came for you. Otherwise, this Mega Stone wouldn’t happen to be one for Audino. You should stay alert," Masato Shirai said after a pause, deciding to give a warning.
Yuga had felt the same suspicion himself, so he smiled and nodded. "I understand. Thanks for the heads-up."
After seeing Masato Shirai off, Yuga happened to spot Doudou, so he waved and said, "Doudou, come here. I’ve got something good to show you."
Doudou walked over quickly and immediately noticed the box in Yuga’s hands. A strange sense of unease stirred inside its heart.
"Come on, let’s go to the Ecopark," Yuga said softly, then pulled Doudou along as they left the shop.
Once inside the Ecopark, Yuga couldn’t wait to open the box, taking out the Mega Stone and handing it to Doudou.
"This is for you. Let’s try it right now!"
As Doudou held the Mega Stone, that uneasy feeling in its heart grew even stronger. It nodded blankly.
Yuga took out his Key Stone and shouted, "Doudou, Mega Evolve!"
He had considered saying some dramatic, over-the-top lines, but ultimately gave up on the idea. After all, this wasn’t the first time he had Mega Evolved a Pokémon, and he was too old now to shout embarrassing lines like that.
There was no doubt about the bond between Doudou and Yuga. As soon as Yuga’s words fell, the Mega Stone in Doudou’s hands began to emit a strong light. The light turned into a white ribbon that connected with the glow from the Key Stone in Yuga’s hand.
Within the light, Doudou’s body began to undergo a tremendous transformation.
When the light finally faded, a brand-new Pokémon appeared in front of Yuga — Mega Audino.
Doudou’s height hadn’t changed, but its body, which was originally yellow and pink, had now transformed into a combination of white, pink, and yellow. White was now the dominant color, with pink used for decoration and yellow as the inner lining.
In addition to the change in appearance, Doudou’s type had changed from a pure Normal type to a combination of Normal and Fairy.
The addition of the Fairy type brought both advantages and disadvantages for Doudou. The downside was that its weaknesses increased — where it was previously only weak to Fighting-type moves, now it had weaknesses to both Steel and Poison. On the upside, it gained resistance to Bug and Dark types, as well as complete immunity to Dragon-type moves.
Beyond that, after Mega Evolution, Doudou had become a true tank — and not just any tank, but one that excelled at removing debuffs and healing.
Originally, Doudou was already quite good at using Fairy-type moves, but due to being a pure Normal type, it never got a Same-Type Attack Bonus when using them. Now, that concern was finally gone.
Sensing the significant boost in its strength, Doudou slightly raised its arms and looked to the left and right, curiously examining its new form. Seeing this, Yuga took out a mirror from his system space and handed it over, saying, "Use this to take a better look."
As a handsome guy, how could he not carry a mirror on him!
Doudou accepted the mirror with delight, beaming as it examined its reflection, clearly very pleased with its new appearance.
I’m so beautiful!
Indeed, the Mega-Evolved Audino looked as if it were wearing a white wedding dress — truly very beautiful.
However, appearance was secondary — what mattered most about Mega Evolution was the change in strength.
It just so happened that Chatot and Fletchinder were planning to head out and were passing through the main garden when Yuga grabbed them to serve as sparring partners. Yuga asked Chatot to have a mock battle with Doudou. Since both were Elite level Pokémon, a practice match was perfectly suitable.
However, Doudou ultimately still lost.
There were many reasons why Doudou lost, and it couldn’t be boiled down to just one thing.
First, Doudou had always been very busy, and its training intensity didn’t quite match that of the other Pokémon.
Second, while Doudou had strong defenses and healing capabilities, its offensive ability was indeed lacking. Without teammates to assist, in most cases, it could only passively take hits.
And then there was Chatot, whose power had skyrocketed with the help of Ho-Oh’s skeletal remains. Its combat strength had become formidable and didn’t resemble an ordinary Chatot at all — so it was perfectly understandable that Doudou couldn’t defeat it.
Even so, Doudou’s combat power had undeniably improved by a significant margin. Although it lost the sparring match in the end, Chatot didn’t get off easy either. Doudou might not have defeated it, but it nearly exhausted Chatot to the point of collapse.
