Chapter 1481: Mighty Rolling Waves
Chapter 1481: Mighty Rolling Waves
After Kingdra decided to stay, it immediately started moving closer to Primarina, trying to get on friendly terms with her. Yuga didn’t stop it—in fact, he even secretly assisted twice, which made Kingdra very satisfied.
Yuga thought, If Primarina really ends up together with Kingdra and gives up the idea of going back, that would be the best outcome.
However, things didn’t go as he hoped. Although Primarina knew what happened before was just a misunderstanding, the first impression Kingdra left on her had already been formed. As a result, she kept her distance from Kingdra, which made Kingdra very sad.
But it was full of determination and didn’t get discouraged just because of a few setbacks. It still ran over to Primarina to try to strike up a conversation whenever the opportunity arose.
On the other hand, the still-dissatisfied Feraligatr originally wanted to stir up trouble for Yuga in secret. But after Yuga noticed this early sign, he had several of his master level and above Pokémon—including Absol, Lapras, Chimecho, Nana, Florges, and Dusknoir—surround Feraligatr for a while, and Feraligatr immediately chickened out.
After that, it behaved itself, quietly staying in a corner of the ghost ship, watching its son get along with the other Pokémon on board.
Though her son was a bit of a fool, it seemed like he had some natural talent for socializing.
After Kingdra got rejected by Primarina a few more times, it suddenly ran up to Feraligatr and said to its mother, "Since we’ve already decided to leave, why don’t we go back and gather up our stuff? Otherwise, who knows who might end up with it all in the future!"
Kingdra was actually being smart for once.
Thinking about all the powerful Pokémon around Yuga, Feraligatr realized her son had a point. Now that they’d fallen into the hands of this devil (Yuga), the chance of going back home in the future was slim. It’s better to bring their things along now—maybe they could even offer some of it to that devil so he’d treat them a little better in return.
With her mother’s approval, Kingdra then ran to talk to Yuga about it.
Right now, Kingdra had a very good impression of Yuga. After all, Yuga had been helping him chase after his little goddess—even though the help was subtle, Kingdra had noticed it all.
Kingdra felt that he was very clever!
When Yuga heard Kingdra’s decision, his eyes lit up. He already knew from Kingdra’s own words that it and its mother Feraligatr were the most powerful Pokémon in this part of the sea—so their home must have some real treasures!
He quickly told Kingdra to lead the way and directed the ghost ship to head toward the mother and son’s residence.
Their home wasn’t far from where Yuga and the others had been anchored—the ghost ship arrived after just a dozen minutes of sailing.
Of course, the ghost ship had accelerated.
What appeared before Yuga was a cluster of stone pillars standing upright on the surface of the sea. The pillars were irregular—some tall, some short, some thick, some thin—and seemed to have formed naturally. There were probably seventy to eighty of them in total, standing out starkly on the otherwise bare ocean surface.
The pillars weren’t densely packed, scattered about haphazardly. Yuga could faintly see faint whirlpools forming and disappearing beneath them over and over—it was very strange.
"You live down there?" Yuga asked.
Kingdra nodded and proudly showed off its home to Yuga.
This place had originally been discovered by its mother by accident. The special environment under the sea provided strong protection from outside enemies. It had offered the mother and son safety back when they were still weak. Without this place, it was uncertain whether they could have grown to their current strength.
Thinking of this, a trace of sorrow appeared in Kingdra’s heart. It might not get the chance to come back again in the future...
But it quickly shook off that sadness. Compared to this place, a future life with his little goddess was far more appealing!
Truly a love-brained dragon—what an unusual thought process.
After Kingdra finished showing off, Yuga turned to Lapras and said, "Lapras, go with Kingdra and Feraligatr on this trip."
Lapras nodded, flew to the edge of the ship, called to Kingdra and Feraligatr, then jumped into the sea along with them.
However, this action from Yuga made the suspicious Feraligatr misunderstand—she thought Yuga was sending Lapras along to monitor them and prevent them from running away.
She was angry but dared not say anything. In fact, she had secretly considered that once they entered the sea, she could try persuading her son to take the chance to escape.
But now that Lapras, a master level Pokémon, was following them, that plan was completely ruined.
At that moment, Dragonite also stepped out and patted its chest to indicate to Yuga that it wanted to go underwater too.
Although Dragonite wasn’t a Water-type Pokémon, it could move freely in the ocean just like a Water-type. It wasn’t at a disadvantage at all.
Yuga agreed without hesitation. Having one more go along was a good thing—it meant more safety.
So Dragonite happily dove into the water as well.
Under the guidance of Feraligatr and Kingdra, Lapras and Dragonite swam downward. The area below was far deeper than Lapras and Dragonite had imagined—so deep that they couldn’t see the bottom at all. The seabed was pitch black.
At first, there were only small whirlpools in the water, but as they swam farther, Lapras and Dragonite noticed that the water currents were becoming faster, and the whirlpools were appearing more frequently.
As they swam even deeper, what appeared before Lapras and Dragonite were massive tornado-like whirlpools. These whirlpools collided with each other, forming a barrier up ahead—completely impassable.
Who would have thought such a calm sea surface concealed such raging turbulence below?
Even though Lapras was a master level Water-type Pokémon, getting caught in those whirlpools could still mean serious trouble.
The surrounding seawater surged constantly under the pull of the whirlpools, creating an environment where no other Pokémon dared to get close. No wonder Kingdra and Feraligatr had said this place once served as their safe haven.
But Kingdra and Feraligatr showed no worry in the face of these whirlpools. Kingdra floated forward slowly, and the turbulent waters near it miraculously calmed down.
This was the innate racial ability of Kingdra. These Pokémon lived in the deep sea for long periods and rarely appeared before humans. Some powerful individuals even had the ability to calm tsunamis.
"Roooaaar~"
Kingdra let out a mighty roar, and waves of sonic pulses spread through the churning water. The whirlpools that had been colliding slowly began to disappear.
Seeing this, both Lapras and Dragonite couldn’t help but marvel at Kingdra’s mysterious racial talent. Even though they were both stronger than Kingdra, there were things Kingdra could do that they simply couldn’t.
"Let’s go."
Kingdra called out to Dragonite and Lapras, urging them to keep moving. Feraligatr, long used to this, quickly followed behind her son.
After passing through the whirlpool zone, Lapras and Dragonite couldn’t help but look back. The whirlpools had already reformed, once again turning into an impenetrable danger zone, while the area they were in now was unbelievably calm.
It had to be said—nature truly was amazing!
The place where Kingdra and Feraligatr lived was surrounded by those whirlpools, roughly forming a circle. Unless one had the same kind of talent as Kingdra, it would be almost impossible to break through the whirlpools and reach the center.
Originally, Lapras and Dragonite thought the seabed here would be pitch dark—but it wasn’t. The seabed was very bright, and the reason was the stone pillars.
The parts of the stone pillars above the sea were pitch black and looked like ordinary rocks, but the parts below the sea were crystal-clear, almost like beautiful pieces of crystal, radiating a bright light.
This light was extremely penetrating, illuminating the entire seabed and making it appear as bright as daylight.
As they swam along, Lapras and Dragonite arrived at a region covered with seaweed. The seaweed here grew abundantly, with wide leaves drifting in the water, swaying gently like sea spirits.
It seemed the seaweed thrived by absorbing the light emitted by the stone pillars. Brownish leaves were speckled with tiny glowing dots, giving them a magical appearance.
These seaweed patches were not only Kingdra and Feraligatr’s home, but also their food source.
Kingdra and Feraligatr led Lapras and Dragonite through the seaweed, weaving between the gently floating leaves. Before long, they reached a nest woven and piled up from seaweed—and the nest was filled with sparkling treasures: evolution stones, elemental gems, and the like.
Lapras and Dragonite looked at each other—neither of them expected that these two guys were actually quite wealthy.
But this wasn’t really surprising. This primitive sea area had never been developed and contained a wealth of buried resources and treasures. Kingdra and Feraligatr were the overlords of the region, so it was only natural that they had built up a collection.
In fact, many of the treasures here were plundered from other Pokémon by the mother and son. Some were also tributes offered by weaker Pokémon.
Before they entered the water, Yuga had given them a space backpack, concerned that it would be difficult for them to carry everything. Now it turned out to be the perfect decision.
Kingdra and Feraligatr kept loading their treasures into the space backpack. Feraligatr even looked suspiciously at Lapras and Dragonite several times, worried that they might be eyeing her treasures. This made the two Pokémon feel extremely awkward.
Once everything had been packed, Feraligatr directly slung the space backpack around her own waist, not even letting her own son touch it—afraid that he would give away their whole fortune.
After living together for decades, Feraligatr had finally realized today that her son was a complete idiot.
Just as the four Pokémon were about to return to the surface, the seawater suddenly began to surge, and one giant wave after another came crashing toward them.
Fortunately, Kingdra’s innate racial talent was powerful enough that all the incoming waves were neutralized before they could cause harm.
But things weren’t the same for the ghost ship above the surface.
Yuga and the others had been calmly waiting for Lapras and the others to return when Dusknoir suddenly noticed a white streak appearing on the horizon.
As the white streak came closer, Yuga and the others realized it wasn’t a streak at all—but a massive wave as tall as a city wall.
Yuga immediately shouted, "Quick! Get the ship into the sky!"
Shasha, rarely speaking, said, "But Lapras and the others haven’t come up yet!"
Yuga replied, "There’s no time! They’re Water-type Pokémon—they won’t drown!"
The massive wave approached even faster than Yuga had expected. Just as the ghost ship began to rise into the sky, the wave crashed down violently. The ghost ship narrowly avoided the impact, but the powerful air currents it carried still blew the ship far off course. Fortunately, the Ghost-type Pokémon onboard were strong enough to stabilize it in time.
After the wave crashed down, all the stone pillars surrounding the home of Kingdra and Feraligatr were broken and then sank into the sea, disappearing without a trace.
Deep beneath the sea, Kingdra and the others stared in shock as their former home was completely destroyed. Not only were all the stone pillars broken, but the seaweed fields were thrown into utter chaos, and even the naturally formed whirlpools vanished due to changes in the undersea environment.
Among the four Pokémon, the most heartbroken was probably Feraligatr, but the current situation didn’t allow it much time to grieve. Dragonite and Lapras both wanted to know what had just happened, so one of them carried Kingdra on its back while the other held onto Feraligatr, then sped toward the surface.
Dragonite and Lapras were incredibly fast, bursting out of the sea almost in the blink of an eye. At the same time, the ghost ship above had just stabilized itself. Sharp-eyed Yuga spotted them from afar, and while he let out a sigh of relief, he shouted loudly:
"Lapras! Dragonite! Over here!!!"
Ever since obtaining Palkia Gem, Lapras had become even faster at flying, even slightly faster than the Flying-type Dragonite. The four Pokémon landed on the ghost ship in the blink of an eye.
"You’re all safe—that’s what matters!" Yuga said, then glanced at the sky. "It was just sunny and calm... where did that massive wave come from?"
Just as he finished speaking, the sky changed color. Pitch-black clouds gathered rapidly, and the sky grew oppressively dark and heavy, making everyone feel a weight press down on their hearts.
However, the center of the black clouds wasn’t directly above Yuga and the others—it was farther away. Even at a distance, Yuga and the others could see that the clouds had already formed into a funnel shape, and something terrifying seemed to be inside.
Splaaash... drip drip...
A light rain began to fall, and the once-clear and sunny weather had changed completely in just a matter of seconds.
"What on earth is happening over there?" Yuga looked solemnly at the funnel-shaped clouds.
At the same time, Kingdra and Feraligatr, who had never witnessed anything like this before, were trembling uncontrollably. Even Primarina was shaking—whatever was inside those clouds gave off an overwhelming, terrifying presence that made their bodies quiver involuntarily.
Then, another massive wave appeared—identical in size and force to the one before. Yuga immediately shouted to Dusknoir, "Raise the ship even higher!"
Even though they moved quickly, the ghost ship was still affected by the powerful air currents that came with the wave, getting hurled through the sky once more. Fortunately, it managed to stabilize again with the help of the capable Ghost-type Pokémon aboard.
At that moment, Yuga caught a glimpse of a streak of golden light flashing inside the pitch-black clouds.
After the ship regained its balance, Absol stepped forward and walked to the bow. Facing the direction of the dark clouds, it slowly closed its eyes, and the blade-like horn on the side of its head began to emit a faint blue glow.
Yuga’s Absol already possessed a bit of foresight talent, and combined with the natural disaster-predicting ability of the Absol species, it wanted to try peering into what was happening inside those ominous clouds.
Absol’s consciousness seemed to pass through layers of dense mist, instantly arriving within the dark cloud. Inside the black mass, the pressure was suffocating—an overwhelmingly powerful presence was engaged in a standoff, causing Absol to feel immense strain.
It tried its best to focus, to see clearly what was hidden within the clouds. But just then, the presence inside seemed to notice Absol’s attempt to peer in—a pair of blood-red eyes pierced through the layers of fog and looked directly at it.
