If You Could Hear My Heart
Chapter 1409: Will He Save Her?

Chapter 1409: Chapter 1409: Will He Save Her?

As soon as the doctor left, Xia Chuqing was still hanging her head low, silently leaning on the bed, doing nothing.

Xiao Mo poured her a glass of water and said indifferently, "Take a nap, you’ll feel better when you wake up."

"Mind your own business." Xia Chuqing didn’t even look at him.

"Fine, I won’t bother with you. I’m off to work, call me if you need anything."

"I’m going back to school."

"No way." Xiao Mo said sternly, "I’ve asked your French teacher for a leave of absence on your behalf."

"No need, I can ask for leave myself. Also, Xiao Mo, try to meddle less in my affairs from now on." Xia Chuqing glared at him.

"This fever-reducing injection seems to work quite well, you’re full of energy just after getting it." Xiao Mo remarked coolly.

"Go, can you please just go!" Xia Chuqing rolled her eyes, "I don’t want to see you for even a minute."

"But when you had a fever, you were clinging to me the whole time, even saying to me ’can’t live without you, without you it’s like a fish out of water.’" Xiao Mo looked at Xia Chuqing seriously, his face stern.

"..." Xia Chuqing was bewildered, damn, did she really say that?

When she was feverish and confused, she only knew she seemed to be holding onto something, dreaming of hugging a tree; could it be, she was embracing Xiao Mo?

She also remembered feeling around on that tree, could it be that she was actually touching Xiao Mo?!

Oh my god, my eyes are burning.

Xia Chuqing felt like she was going crazy, how could she have done such a thing? And, did she really say those sappy words to him like "can’t live without you, without you it’s like a fish out of water"?

Xia Chuqing’s face changed colors, turning red and then pale, at a loss for words in an instant.

"Don’t worry, if you can’t live without me, then so be it, I’m always at your beck and call." Xiao Mo looked at her dispassionately.

"You’re taking the delirious words of a feverish person seriously." Xia Chuqing retorted, "What... what else did I say?"

"You really want me to say it?" Xiao Mo thought for a moment.

"..."

"You also said I’m your only support, that you like me very much, very much so, and that you can’t live without me for the rest of your life." Xiao Mo said earnestly.

"Pervert, you’re lying to me, aren’t you?" Xia Chuqing suddenly realized.

"Believe it or not, that’s up to you."

"I..." Xia Chuqing was somewhat unable to distinguish reality from illusion; she looked at Xiao Mo’s face - he seemed very serious.

"You should talk less when you have a fever, just sleep it off." Xiao Mo said, "I’m heading to the corporation. I’ll have someone send lunch over for you."

"I..."

Before Xia Chuqing could finish her sentence, Xiao Mo had left her room.

He chose a long-sleeved shirt from the wardrobe to wear. There were two rows of bite marks from Xia Chuqing on his arm - if Shen Chi saw them, he would probably tease him for a long while.

Xia Chuqing was locked in the villa by Xiao Mo; she propped up her head, wondering for a long time, did she really say those things she shouldn’t have said while feverish?

She had already decisively told him they would never deal with each other again, and now she blurred out those words while feverish, what was the meaning of this?!

After a long while, she still couldn’t recall clearly.

The only thing she remembered was that she indeed had hugged Xiao Mo.

How embarrassing...

If she knew she would get a fever and talk nonsense, she wouldn’t have gone crazy and suffered this double loss yesterday.

Perhaps due to the fever reducing medicine taking effect, she gradually snuggled into the lightly fragrant covers and fell into a deep sleep.

...

She slept until the evening, and Xiao Mo found an excuse to leave the corporation early.

Xia Chuqing’s complexion had improved a lot, the abnormal flush was gone, returning to its calm and light rosy shade.

He sat by the bed, tucked her in properly, and his gaze lingered on her.

He had never done these things for a woman before, a bit awkward, but not too uncomfortable; it felt quite natural after a few tries.

Just then, Xia Chuqing’s phone rang; she glanced at it and quickly silenced it.

It was her dad, Xia Yongfang. She actually had a pretty good relationship with her dad.

She didn’t know how long she had been sitting by the bedside, but finally, Xia Chuqing woke up. The first thing she saw upon opening her eyes was Xiao Mo’s handsome and resolute face, tinged with a touch of tenderness.

"Awake?" he asked, his voice hoarse.

"How long have you been sitting by my bed?"

"Guess." Xiao Mo was in a rather good mood and chuckled lightly.

His smile made Xia Chuqing space out.

If she could describe his smile, she felt it was so bright that even the sun, moon, and stars would pale in comparison.

"What time is it?"

"Five in the afternoon."

"I slept that long? I just had a dream about you. In the dream, we were in a forest, and suddenly a tiger pounced at us. Then I dodged, and you... got bitten to death." Xia Chuqing burst into giggles.

Having slept, she felt much more comfortable, and her mood improved inexplicably.

"Why would I be in a forest with you?" Xiao Mo cocked his head, asking curiously.

"You..." Xia Chuqing held her forehead; why did some people focus on such strange things? Shouldn’t he be angry?

"Hmm?" Xiao Mo looked at her with interest.

"I don’t know either!" Xia Chuqing brushed it off, "Anyways, when I was dreaming, you were there with me in the forest. How would I know why?"

"As the saying goes, one’s thoughts by day are reflected in dreams by night. So, you want to go to a forest with me?"

"..." Xia Chuqing’s mouth twitched, "Why don’t you ask how you got bitten to death? Was it terrible? What happened to me afterwards?"

"What else could it be? It must’ve been trying to save you."

"..." Xia Chuqing was at a loss for words, "Why are you so narcissistic? You’re not that great. If there really was a tiger, you’d definitely have run away early on, not caring whether I lived or died."

"Who says so," Xiao Mo said seriously.

"Intuition."

"Then your intuition is quite terrible," Xiao Mo replied indifferently.

Xia Chuqing felt even better for no reason. She stared into Xiao Mo’s eyes for a while and then, propping herself up by the bed, asked seriously, "So, does that mean you would save me?"

Xiao Mo paused, averting his gaze, "Are you hungry?"

Xia Chuqing thought she saw Xiao Mo’s face turn red for a moment, unsure if it was an illusion.

"Answer me," Xia Chuqing persisted.

"How could there possibly be a risk of being injured by a tiger nowadays? The likelihood of such an event happening is extremely small. Besides, I wouldn’t take you to a forest."

"Come on..." Xia Chuqing cursed under her breath, could a little praise really kill him?

"I want to drink water!" Xia Chuqing said, annoyed.

"Okay."

Xiao Mo reached out for the water cup on the table and handed it to her.

As Xia Chuqing was drinking the water, he couldn’t help but replay her question in his mind—would he save her?

The first reaction was, undoubtedly, yes.

The second reaction, and the third, were still, yes.

If she ever truly faced any difficulties, he would help her with all he had.

"I’m done drinking, and I’m hungry now," Xia Chuqing blinked, deliberately probing Xiao Mo.

"I’ll take you out to eat."

"Hmm? You’re that kind-hearted? Did your boss give you a bonus today?"

"Are you going or not? If you are, get out of bed now," Xiao Mo glanced at her.
