If You Could Hear My Heart
Chapter 1408: Won’t Disturb Your Affection Anymore

Chapter 1408: Chapter 1408: Won’t Disturb Your Affection Anymore

The next day when Xiao Mo went to work, he knocked on Xia Chuqing’s door.

"Time to get up," he said softly.

However, there was no response from the room, so he knocked a few more times.

Having taken her home last night, he spent the whole night but still couldn’t figure out why. Was it because Xu Chaomu asked him to take care of Xia Chuqing? Not exactly.

Xu Chaomu had only briefly mentioned before to take a little care of Chuqing.

After her last departure, each time he returned home, he couldn’t help but recall the scenes of dining with her and how she curled up and slept on his sofa.

So much so that later, when he couldn’t help looking at the sofa and saw it empty, he felt a tremendous sense of loss.

Many times, feelings are a peculiar thing.

He couldn’t remember the last time he had felt this way.

Like now, knocking and calling her to get up, something he had never done before.

Still no response from the room, Xiao Mo shook his head, knocked again, and said: "Get up, it’s already seven o’clock."

Still no response, Xiao Mo felt puzzled and said indifferently: "Answer me, or I’m coming in."

Xiao Mo pushed the door open, and as soon as he did, he saw Xia Chuqing lying in bed, her face flushed red.

Xiao Mo hurried over, touched her forehead, and as expected, she had a fever.

He immediately called a friend from the hospital to come to the house.

"You’re feverish and not making a sound," Xiao Mo frowned and tucked her in with the blanket.

Xia Chuqing’s long hair was spread out on the pillow, looking like she had been tossing and turning for a while, her clothes disheveled.

Xiao Mo looked down and saw the patch of fair skin exposed at her collar.

He swallowed hard and adjusted her pajamas for her.

Having never taken care of anyone, but he still knew the basics, he quickly fetched some fever-reducing medicine from his medicine box.

"Get up, take this medicine first," Xiao Mo helped Xia Chuqing up.

Only then did he realize he had brought home a troublesome sprite.

Xia Chuqing was groggy and burning up; she could barely open her eyes and only murmured: "Don’t... go away."

"Let’s see if you’ll act crazy again next time." Xiao Mo forcefully stuffed the medicine into her mouth and poured some water down her throat.

Xiao Mo hurt her, Xia Chuqing whimpered in pain, and in her blurred state, she recognized Xiao Mo’s voice: "Pervert, what are you doing... get away, get away... what are you trying to do to me..."

"What can I do to you?" Xiao Mo’s face was covered in black lines, utterly helpless.

"Pervert, blockhead, beast," Xia Chuqing repeated, "I’m telling you... I don’t like you, just pretend I didn’t say anything last time... I like, like, like Song Heng, Brother Heng."

Xiao Mo’s expression changed, his eyes darkening.

"You saw him yesterday too, right? He’s more handsome than you, right? Younger and more vibrant than you, right? More optimistic and cheerful than you, right? With someone so good available, how could I possibly want you... What I felt before must have been an illusion, I thought I liked you, but don’t take it to heart."

Xia Chuqing, her eyes closed, said a lot in one breath.

Xiao Mo didn’t know if she was truly confused or pretending, but the words she blurted out left him feeling a sense of suffocation.

"What if I’ve already taken it to heart," said Xiao Mo indifferently.

Xia Chuqing collapsed into his embrace, weak and burning up with fever.

Perhaps Xiao Mo’s body felt cool, as she rubbed against him in his arms and couldn’t help but clasp the arm he had exposed to the air.

His hands were cool, and when she leaned against him, it was like finding a spring of clear water in the desert; she was somewhat impatient.

Xiao Mo tried to pull his hand back, but it was no use, Xia Chuqing had a strong grip.

"Do you really like Song Heng?" Xiao Mo frowned and asked again.

"..." Xia Chuqing had fallen asleep, nestled in Xiao Mo’s embrace, nuzzling against him.

Xiao Mo had never experienced such a sensation before. After all, Xia Chuqing was the first woman to sleep in his arms. It was like holding a little cat, but this little cat was different from the ones he had raised.

Bending his head down, he looked at Xia Chuqing in his arms, wanting to push her away a bit, but she clung to him like an octopus, grasping him tightly.

Xiao Mo felt a wave of heat throughout his body; his current state was no better than Xia Chuqing’s.

He tried to push her again, to no avail, so he had no choice but to let her cling to him.

The doctor arrived quickly, and upon entering, he saw Xiao Mo holding a woman he had never seen before.

"Hey, Xiao Mo, when did you get a woman? And you didn’t tell me, do you even consider me a brother?" the male doctor said with a laugh.

"She’s my sister." Xiao Mo replied indifferently, "Stop the nonsense, and check on her."

"Sister? Since when did you have a sister, and how come I didn’t know? She looks pretty young, is she a love sister?"

The doctor put down his medicine box, teasing while taking a thermometer out of it.

"Stop the nonsense." Xiao Mo gave him a cold look.

"Alright, alright, I’ll stop. I feel like I’ve stumbled upon huge news. A perennial bachelor has a woman in his house, and a pure little one at that. Turns out you like this type."

"Are you done? Say one more word, and I’ll kick you out."

"If you kick me out, your little sister will suffer," said the doctor.

"..." Xiao Mo was speechless.

The doctor checked on Xia Chuqing, who had a rather severe fever, and gave her an injection.

"How did you take care of her? She’s burning up with fever."

"..." Xiao Mo remained silent, glancing at Xia Chuqing—who was going crazy on her own.

When the injection was given, Xia Chuqing furrowed her brows in pain, finally opened her eyes, and shook her head: "It hurts."

"If it hurts, bite your brother." The doctor looked meaningfully at Xiao Mo.

Xia Chuqing also glanced at Xiao Mo, said nothing, but really grabbed Xiao Mo’s arm and bit down hard.

These days, she had suffered so much grief and shed so many tears at Xiao Mo’s place, biting him was nothing unreasonable.

Xia Chuqing bit down hard, and instantly, two rows of deep, congested bite marks appeared on Xiao Mo’s arm.

"You actually bit me!" Xiao Mo gritted his teeth and glared fiercely at Xia Chuqing.

"If you’re not happy with it, you can bite me back," said Xia Chuqing indifferently.

"What a character!" The doctor laughed heartily on the side. After giving Xia Chuqing the injection, he left a few packets of medicine behind.

Xiao Mo was irritated and had no outlet for it, so he could only give the doctor a cold stare: "Leave once you’re done with the checkup!"

"Do you treat people like this? Using them and then casting them aside, alright, alright, I won’t come again next time. There, I’m leaving now, won’t disturb your sweet moments. After all, I’m still a single dog, watching too much love-dovey stuff will hurt my heart."

"Where did all this nonsense come from? I warn you, don’t go around blabbering nonsense!" After saying that, Xiao Mo kicked him, his face darkening.

"Damn it!" The doctor almost got into a fight with Xiao Mo, having never seen someone so lacking in brotherhood; he had to leave with his medicine box in tow.
