Chapter 1224: Chapter 1224: The Long-Awaited Reunion Night
Soon, the elevator reached the top floor.
The observation deck on the top floor was opulent, with broad floor-to-ceiling windows, elegant curtains, and polished floors. The lights were always on, casting a warm and soft glow.
There were waiters by the entrance waiting attentively, and when they saw Shen Chi, they bowed respectfully, "President Shen."
"Hmm, you all can leave now."
"Yes." The crowd nodded their heads and all left the area.
It was their first time seeing President Shen bring a woman to the top floor. He only came here occasionally for meetings with guests or to enjoy the view.
The room was temperature-controlled, and once inside, the door automatically closed behind them.
Xu Chaomu felt a bit hot, so she stuck her head out and said, "Let me down."
"After using me, you just throw me away?" Shen Chi’s lips curled into a smile.
"I never asked you to carry me."
"Alright, alright, it was all my own volition."
"..." Xu Chaomu pursed her lips.
Shen Chi set her down from his embrace and, seeing her inconvenience with the high heels, went to get her a pair of slippers.
"Can you eat and sleep here?" Xu Chaomu curiously sat on the sofa and looked around.
"You can do both."
Xu Chaomu hadn’t been to Shen Group much, let alone the top floor. It was indeed her first time ever.
She looked around with curious eyes, having never been to a place so grand before.
The floor-to-ceiling windows were very luxurious yet understated and covered a large area. Looking out the windows, one could see the bustling center of the district at a glance.
The view through the window was indeed spectacular, as bright as day. Not far away was the river, winding and lying across this district like a sleeping dragon.
"It’s really beautiful," Xu Chaomu couldn’t help but exclaim.
She loved the urban night view, and from here, she could take it all in completely.
The fireworks were still going off, indeed, this place had a full view of all the fireworks.
The fireworks bloomed in the sky like flowers, one after another!
Shen Chi bent down and grasped her ankle, sliding off her high heels and putting on the slippers for her.
The moment his hand touched her foot, she trembled slightly, still not quite used to it.
Aside from kissing and hugging, he rarely performed these affectionate, subtle, and warming gestures. Perhaps it was his aloofness that made her forget... actually, he used to bend down and tie her shoelaces for her.
Shen Chi, however, looked quite accustomed to it, and after changing her shoes, he stood up, "Give me your coat."
"Oh," Xu Chaomu took off her coat.
Shen Chi also took off his suit jacket, hung up their clothes neatly, and then pointed to the liquor cabinet and the beverage dispenser, "What would you like to drink?"
"Lemon juice," said Xu Chaomu.
"Hmm." Shen Chi got her a cup, then casually took a bottle of fine Lafite for himself.
He handed her the beverage and poured himself a glass of red wine.
"Are your feet still tired?" Shen Chi asked.
"A little," Xu Chaomu admitted frankly.
"Oh, then stay the night here." Shen Chi gave her a meaningful look.
"Didn’t we agree I would leave after the fireworks? I’m just here to have a meal with you. By the way, if you’re hungry, you can eat something."
"Is my wife always so considerate?" Shen Chi’s words carried a deeper meaning.
"..." Xu Chaomu lowered her head.
If he didn’t bring it up, she would almost forget her identity—she was Mrs. Shen.
"Would you like to sit on the sofa to watch the fireworks or go to the window?" Shen Chi asked again.
"Let’s just sit here." Xu Chaomu said, "The view is pretty clear. It’s my first time here, and I didn’t expect the scenery to be so nice."
"If you like it, come often." Shen Chi sat opposite her, his voice deep and hoarse, "You’ll always be the lady of this place."
Xu Chaomu lowered her head, not saying anything, for she didn’t have enough confidence yet to be the lady of Shen Group.
"Don’t be like that." Shen Chi saw through her thoughts and simply sat down beside her, wrapping his arm around her shoulder, "Smile for me."
He didn’t like seeing her upset; he reached out and gently caressed her chin.
Tickled by his teasing, Xu Chaomu pushed his hand away: "Don’t be silly."
Shen Chi saw her smile and then his lips finally curved into a smile as well.
Xu Chaomu pushed away her own glass of lemon juice, covetously eyeing the alcohol in his hand, "Pour me a drink too."
Maybe, only when she was drunk could she face him more boldly, could she disregard the gap between them, the unsavory parts.
Shen Chi frowned, about to say, "Girls shouldn’t drink alcohol," but it was New Year’s Eve after all, and a little drink wouldn’t hurt.
He poured her a glass of red wine; they had never really had a proper drink together before.
When she was younger, he was strict with her, and later when she was pregnant, she couldn’t drink either.
Afraid that they both would get drunk, he made a call to his subordinates in advance, telling them to pick up Xiaobao and bring him to the Shen Family home.
Xu Chaomu was wearing a white long sweater dress today that flattered her figure, not looking at all like someone who had had a child.
After taking a big gulp of wine, Xu Chaomu then laughingly said to him, "If you don’t start eating, I’m going to leave."
Shen Chi also smiled, "Alright, eat with me."
With that, he called the kitchen.
Since it was the New Year’s Eve dinner and also a reunion long-awaited, he asked the kitchen to prepare several more dishes, most of which were her favorites.
As Xu Chaomu drank two glasses of wine, the dishes were served one after the other.
Propping her head up, she looked at the array of sumptuous dishes and laughed, "Life as a capitalist is really luxurious, something I’ve never experienced before."
Today, she had indeed experienced it, overlooking the entire city center from this top floor while having dinner and drinks, how luxurious it was.
"If you want luxury, I’ll bring you here every day."
"I’m not used to it," Xu Chaomu shook her head.
She always felt like she couldn’t blend into his life; despite knowing him for so many years, how much did she truly understand him.
"Actually, I’m not used to it either," Shen Chi said with a slight smile, "I still prefer eating at home, having you with me is the best."
"Shen Chi, are you confessing to me again..." Xu Chaomu said, propping her head, slightly tipsy.
"Otherwise, whom else could I confess to but you?"
"Why didn’t you confess to me before!" Xu Chaomu raised her voice, her eyes drooping slightly.
In that moment, they both fell silent.
"I thought nothing could separate us." After a long while, Shen Chi spoke, his voice instantly turned somber.
The events of her eighteenth year were all beyond his expectation; he had discovered the truth about her mother a long time ago and had always kept it from her, originally intending to keep it a secret for a lifetime...
Now that she knew, perhaps it was for the best...
Hearing this, Xu Chaomu also fell silent, her eyes suddenly moistening.
"It’s not too late now," Shen Chi wrapped his arm around her shoulder.
Xu Chaomu didn’t say anything, remaining silent for a very long time.
After another sip of wine, she finally smiled and said, "Let’s eat, the dishes will get cold if we wait any longer."
Shen Chi nodded and handed her a pair of chopsticks.
