Chapter 1223: Chapter 1223: Childhood Sweethearts, Together Until Old Age

Shen Chi stopped and waited for her, his domineering gaze swept over her and he said indifferently, "I’ll carry you."

Xu Chaomu shook her head, "No need, I can walk."

"No means no." Shen Chi turned away.

"..."

Xu Chaomu could only grit her teeth and keep walking. After standing by the river for too long, her legs really became sore and painful.

After just a couple of steps, Shen Chi glanced at her disdainfully and this time, without asking her, he simply picked her up in a princess carry.

"Hey!" Xu Chaomu wasn’t ready, and she quickly clung to Shen Chi’s neck, afraid she’d fall.

"Hold on tight." Shen Chi glanced at her.

Beneath the fireworks, her face looked exceptionally pure and beautiful, her eyes were clear and bright. She was the most beautiful scenery in the world, far more beautiful than the fireworks by countless times.

Shen Chi gazed at her and involuntarily forgot to move his feet.

She was so wonderful, if he were to let her go, wouldn’t he regret it for life?

How many loves can go from childhood friends to life and death dependents, from life and death dependents to inseparable until white hair...

Xu Chaomu felt his burning gaze and moved her lips, wanting to say something, but ultimately she said nothing.

Under the fireworks, she also looked at him.

This man, he was always so handsome.

Thinking back to when she first saw him and how deeply she was smitten, how could there be someone this handsome in the world? Years later, he still held an irreplaceable place in her heart.

"Are you cold?" After a while, Xu Chaomu finally spoke.

She was just making small talk for the sake of it; their situation felt a bit odd.

"If you hold me tight, I won’t be cold," Shen Chi replied.

"Oh." Xu Chaomu responded, and truly snuggled into his embrace.

Unexpectedly for Shen Chi, he hesitated for a moment, then his eyes and brows filled with a smile.

Xu Chaomu felt cold even though she wore quite a lot, but Shen Chi’s embrace was indeed warm. She intentionally unbuttoned his suit and buried herself deeper into him.

As she nestled against his chest, he felt as if a little kitten had burrowed in there, her fuzzy head rubbing against him.

Without that rub, it didn’t matter much, but with that rub, Shen Chi felt nearly overwhelmed.

He wasn’t any paragon of virtue; how could he withstand such teasing from the woman he loved?

One second he felt a bit cold, the next, his blood was boiling.

Xu Chaomu grasped his sweater, her little paws clutching tight. Pressed against his chest, she could hear the thumping of his heart.

Wasn’t this man always calm and collected?

Xu Chaomu admitted that she had burrowed into his embrace partly because she was cold, and partly, it was intentional.

Buried in his chest, surrounded by darkness, she could smell the crisp, woody scent coming from him.

"Xu Chaomu, are you doing this on purpose?" Shen Chi asked with a dark expression.

"What?" Xu Chaomu pretended not to know.

"Never mind, don’t move!" Shen Chi said through clenched teeth.

"Okay." Xu Chaomu lay in his arms.

Shen Chi carried her towards Shen Group’s direction which wasn’t far from the river; it took just over ten minutes to walk there.

But Shen Chi intentionally slowed down his pace; he wanted to hold her a bit longer.

After all this time, she was still so slender; holding her didn’t feel heavy at all.

A few minutes passed, and Shen Chi’s cell phone suddenly rang.

Xu Chaomu said, "Your phone is ringing."

"Help me answer it."

"That’s... not very convenient," she said.

"What’s so inconvenient about it? Otherwise, shall I put you down?"

"Fine, fine, I’ll answer it."

Xu Chaomu reached out from his embrace and bit off her right-hand glove. Because she couldn’t see the exact position, she felt around over his trousers.

While feeling around, she accidentally brushed against the most sensitive part of the man.

She quickly withdrew her hand, her little face flushing crimson.

"You felt it, didn’t you?" Shen Chi gritted his teeth.

He had just calmed down, and now he was about to explode.

"No, I didn’t touch it, I didn’t mean to." Xu Chaomu thought he was talking about touching his body.

"I’m asking if you touched the phone!"

"Uh... touched it." Xu Chaomu finally pulled the phone out of his trouser pocket.

"Catch!"

"Oh." Xu Chaomu activated the speakerphone.

The call was from Shen Chi’s subordinate, who thought Shen Chi was on the line, so he went straight to the point, "Mr. Shen, the 9,990 fast-ignition fireworks are all set off."

"Add another 9,990," Shen Chi said.

"Huh?" The subordinate didn’t react, "Mr. Shen, that’s a bit of a waste."

Xu Chaomu’s eyes widened; so, the fireworks were set off by Shen Group.

She quickly said, "No need, I’m done watching, it’s time to go home."

As if he hadn’t heard Xu Chaomu’s words, Shen Chi said coldly, "Is Shen’s short on this bit of money?"

The subordinate was still curious. Whose female voice was that? Could it be... Mr. Shen was trying to win a smile from a beauty?

"Where are you getting ’a bit of money’ from..." Xu Chaomu pouted and muttered, "It’s such a waste..."

"I’m pleased to do so." Shen Chi glanced at her.

"Alright, alright, I’ll arrange it right now," the subordinate said.

"Make it quick," Shen Chi ordered. He didn’t want to wait for the fireworks to continue when he was carrying Xu Chaomu upstairs.

"Yes."

After hanging up, Xu Chaomu was still dumbfounded, "It really is quite a waste."

"As long as you like it," Shen Chi said indifferently.

"It would be better to save some money to buy Xiaobao clothes," Xu Chaomu said.

Shen Chi curled the corner of his lips, "His clothes, your clothes, neither will be lacking."

"I was just making a comparison; I didn’t ask you for clothes," Xu Chaomu looked down.

"Whether you ask me or not, my money is also yours."

"..."

Carrying her, Shen Chi continued walking forward. Crossing one street would take them to Shen Group.

On New Year’s Eve, everywhere was filled with laughter and the smell of the holiday.

At this moment, Shen Chi felt an exceptional satisfaction. He hadn’t expected to spend the New Year with her.

"Have you had your New Year’s Eve dinner?" Shen Chi asked lightly while carrying her.

"I had dinner before coming. I was going to go back to Jin City with Chuqing after watching the fireworks."

"Then you can call her; you don’t have to wait."

"I need to take Xiaobao back."

"Am I going to eat you up?"

Xu Chaomu pursed her lips, not speaking. Maybe.

"Stay tonight; I haven’t eaten yet," Shen Chi said in a deep voice.

"Then I’ll keep you company for dinner," Xu Chaomu conceded.

"..." Shen Chi’s face was lined with frustration. Was it so hard to stay?

He said nothing more but carried her forward.

Xu Chaomu peeked out from his embrace, sneaking a glance at him. His lips were drawn tight, as if... he was angry.

Why was he so fond of getting angry...

Soon, Shen Chi carried her into the group’s building and all the way into the CEO’s private elevator, directly pressing the number for the top floor.

He sensed that tonight’s Xu Chaomu was a little different towards him; at least, she wasn’t pushing him away. Was it because he had said it would be the last time he bothered her?

However, he had never been a gentleman in front of her, and he could always go back on his word.
