Idle Money System -
Chapter 123 - 123: Resignation
Alexander then drove off, and as he did, people on the road who saw the expensive sports car took out their phones and started recording, knowing this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
He did not notice them, as he was focused on the road.
When he arrived just outside the restaurant, he noticed that as he lowered the windows, many people were looking at him.
"This is not good," he muttered as he decided to find a parking spot somewhere nearby.
As he drove off again in search of a place to park, he noticed that beside the road, there were many cars already parked there.
Knowing that parking in that area was not allowed, he still decided to leave his car there, since about four other vehicles were also lined up in the same spot.
Making him the fifth to park there, he went ahead since he estimated that it would not take much time to speak with his boss. With no people in the vicinity, leaving quickly would be easy.
As he walked back to the restaurant, it took him a while.
When he arrived, Alexander looked at his watch and saw that it was six o'clock in the morning. Upon entering, he noticed that the chairs and tables were perfectly neat.
There was no one else there yet, and after taking about five or six steps, he saw a graceful woman with red hair. It was none other than Valentine.
"Boss, good morning," Alexander called out.
Valentine, who seemed slightly lost in thought, heard someone call her name. Upon seeing that it was Alexander, a smile bloomed on her face.
"Alexander, it's you. You're here so early," she said as she closed the distance between them.
Alexander, seeing how lovely she looked, stood there frozen for a moment. He then shook his head, thinking it was just his imagination.
"Boss, I just woke up early, hehe. Also, are you doing fine? Since a lot happened yesterday," Alexander asked, his tone filled with concern.
After all, being kidnapped and experiencing something that felt straight out of fiction could easily leave anyone isolated at home for days.
"Such strong resolve, but I guess this makes a bit of sense," Alexander thought, considering that one of his boss's bodyguards was clearly not an ordinary person.
So it wasn't entirely incomprehensible that Valentine her boss had experienced some unusual things.
"Yes, a lot happened yesterday. But who should I give thanks for that?" Valentine asked, giving him a knowing look.
Seeing her expression, Alexander immediately understood that she was referring to him.
Feeling slightly flustered, he coughed and changed the subject, sensing something strange in the atmosphere.
"Oh yeah, where's Claire? Didn't the both of you go together?" he asked, noticing that his boss was alone.
"She didn't come with me. She went to visit Sophie at her home to give her a ride so they could come together. They'll probably arrive in about thirty minutes," she responded.
"Is there anything you'd like to ask?" Valentine inquired, noticing from his expression that he seemed to be holding something back.
Her ability to read a person's expression was top-notch, so she decided to ask, seeing that he was struggling to say what was on his mind.
"This… this…" he uttered, then sighed before continuing.
"I want to resign, boss. Is that okay?" he asked, feeling a wave of embarrassment.
After all, Valentine had helped him when he was at his lowest. If he had never received the system, he would have continued to struggle badly.
This kindness could never be forgotten. Saying these words to his savior made him feel understandably shy.
Upon hearing this, Valentine was momentarily shocked, her body trembling slightly.
But gradually, her expression returned to normal as she took a deep breath.
"You don't need to be so troubled, Alexander, since I already saw this coming. With your abilities, I started to have some doubts about it, that if you were this good, why would you be working in a restaurant? That thought stayed with me last night, especially after seeing how extraordinary you truly are," she responded with a casual smile.
"I also know that it wasn't actually my father who saved you when you were arrested, but someone else. So you don't need to feel burdened if you want to leave."
"You also saved my life, not just mine, but my family's as well. A debt like that is not something easily to be repaid," she said as she looked up, her expression thoughtful.
Hearing her words, the heavy burden on his heart seemed to lighten, though it still lingered.
After all, if there had been even the slightest chance he had not received the system, life would have been much harder.
Without any savior, he would have suffered greatly. Because of this, he silently resolved to help her whenever she found herself in trouble.
Since kindness should be repaid.
"You don't need to repay it. It's just what I should do. If something bad happened to you, then where would I get my salary after resigning?" he teased, making Valentine laugh.
"What a glib tongue you have. But still, this life debt must be repaid, let me think about how," she said with a soft smile.
"From now on, call me big sister instead of boss, got it?" she added, wanting to close the distance that the title had created between them.
"Got it, big sister. Big sister, I should head back home now. If you ever want to visit my place for a cup of tea or something, just give me a call and I'll take you around," Alexander offered casually.
This made Valentine freeze for a moment. She placed a hand over her lips and chuckled.
"Oho, don't tell me you're courting this big sister of yours?" she said playfully, tilting her head with a teasing smile.
Alexander was shocked upon hearing her words. He panicked and was just about to explain, but seeing his shy and flustered expression only made Valentine want to laugh even more.
However, she stopped herself and spoke before he could say anything.
"You don't need to explain. Don't worry, I was just joking. You can go on since you seem to be busy," she said gently.
Hearing what she said and still feeling embarrassed under her teasing gaze, he simply nodded. He really needs to head back, since he had to buy breakfast for Aerolia and Anya.
Even though Aerolia could cook, Alexander still felt that buying breakfast was a good idea.
With that, he bade farewell, and as he left, Valentine glanced at his fading figure, feeling a sudden emptiness in her heart.
To distract herself, she was about to busy herself in the office, but just then, Claire and Sophia arrived.
"Elder sister, good morning," Claire called out.
"Good morning as well, big sister," Sophie added.
"Good morning to you too," Valentine responded with a gentle smile.
Glancing around, Claire paused and asked, "Sister, is Alexander not here yet?"
"Yeah, the restaurant's about to open. Is he going to be late?" Sophie added.
"You two are late. He actually came a few minutes ago," Valentine said calmly.
"But the bad news is that... he won't be working here anymore. To be direct, he resigned," she said as she dropped the biggest news.
"What!!!" the three of them exclaimed in unison, their voices echoing through the place.
The two girls quickly turned around, and even Valentine glanced behind them.
It was none other than Weasley, who had also shouted in shock after overhearing the news.
…
Alexander, who had already left and was some distance away from the restaurant, walked back to his car, only to be shocked by what he found.
