I Would Rather Be a Rogue [BL] -
Chapter 81: Bribed Staff
Chapter 81: Bribed Staff
The two Alphas took him for a meal (that Fen had paid for, of course. Or at least pretended he did, Felix didn’t get a chance to see who the card truly belonged to), before finally dropping him off at the hospital. All the baby things stayed in Kade’s car, as Felix didn’t need them yet, and Kade insisted on driving him back to Silverfall once he was finally discharged...
And Felix promised to seriously consider it, actually. Although Brielle had already offered to come pick him up, and he would have preferred to take her up on the offer... Perhaps it wasn’t the best idea, not with Kade lingering around. She might have had the witch’s spell on her that concealed her identity as a mermaid, but it wouldn’t do her any good to catch Kade’s attention. Whether he would find her suspicious, or just see her as Felix’s friend, it could cause a lot of disturbance in her peaceful life.
Which was something Felix didn’t wish on anyone (well, except for his enemies, perhaps!), especially not someone who had been nothing but kind and helpful to him.
So, it would probably be best to accept Kade’s offer this time, and return to Silverfall with him.
For now, though, Felix had other concerns.
"Hello," he smiled, approaching the reception desk at the hospital. "My name is Felix Winterfell, and I’m a patient in the maternity ward. Could you tell me how much my hospital bill is going to be?"
"Are you getting discharged now?"
"No, not yet... I would just like to know the estimate, so I have time to decide on what payment plan would suit me the best."
"I understand... One moment, please." The receptionist typed something on her computer, her eyes focused on the screen. "Felix Winterfell... You were admitted on June 13th, and your daughter is currently in the NICU, right?"
"That’s correct."
"I see here that all your bills have already been paid... Ah." She paused suddenly, her eyes widening as she noticed something.
"...Is there something wrong?" Felix’s eyes narrowed in suspicion.
"It’s... It’s nothing. I had just read something wrong... You don’t have any hospital bills at all."
"Excuse me, what?" Felix couldn’t help but scoff. "What you are trying to say is that someone has paid my bills for me, right?"
"Ah, no, no, you don’t have any bills in your name at all," the receptionist shook her head, but her uneasy voice betrayed her.
"You have just said that my bills had been paid a moment ago."
"I... just read it all wrong. There were never any bills in your name at all."
Felix clicked his tongue.
Ah, for Goddess’ sake, just what on Earth was going on? Did Kade bribe the hospital staff to lie to him? This was getting more and more ridiculous!
"Well, thank you for the information," he nodded his head, leaving the receptionist alone despite his displeasure. All things considered, it wasn’t her fault, so it would be unfair for him to take his annoyance out on her. She didn’t even know what was going on at first, until she had read something on his file... So she probably wasn’t even the one Kade had bribed. And even if she did, Felix still wouldn’t blame her - he knew all too well how persistent the Alpha could be in his pestering...
He let out a heavy sigh, walking down the long hospital corridors. He should be happy - those bills had undoubtedly been sky-high, and would continue to drag Felix down for a long, long time... He should be glad that they were gone. And with both Kade and the hospital’s insistence that the bills didn’t exist at all, Kade wouldn’t be able to hold this debt over his head...
In theory, at least. If Kade decided to be unreasonable, he could even insist that Felix owed him for every minute Kade had spent with him, and there wouldn’t be anything Felix could do about that...
It was bothering him so much, that even his wolf finally quieted down a bit, no longer whining and sulking that Felix wouldn’t submit to the Alpha. Not that it understood Felix’s plight - as far as it was concerned, there was nothing wrong with being indebted to Kade, since they both should just belong to him - but it could at least sense the Omega’s exhaustion.
Because Felix was exhausted, he truly was.
’Perhaps it’s time to finally deal with it, once and for all,’ he thought to himself, as he entered the neonatal ward, taking a seat by his daughter’s side. Vivi was asleep, her arms spread on both sides of her head, her little hands clenched into tiny fists. Felix took one of them in his hand, and rubbed gently, as he thought about the future.
Vivi had been born now, so no matter how painful breaking the mate bond was, it would no longer affect her. There was no reason for Felix to hold back. He just had to find a way to convince Kade to break their bond... The sooner, the better. The longer it dragged on, the angrier Kade might get when he would undoubtedly fail... Even though Felix had been rejecting him from the start.
He just needed to talk to Remi first, to make sure the fox would back him up in case things went too far and Kade tried to hurt him. Although the Alpha had never been violent with him before... You never know. Felix would most certainly feel safer if Remi hid nearby as they talked, while Vivi was somewhere else, far away, for example with Brielle...
A sudden pang passed through Felix’s chest as he thought about breaking the bond, but he shook his head, chasing the thought away. It was only because of the mate bond that was still between them, that stirred his emotions in favor of Kade...
"Uaaah!" All of a sudden, Vivi woke up, and immediately started crying, as if reacting to Felix’s complicated feelings.
"Shhh, shhh, it’s alright..." Felix stood up from his seat, and picked her up, gently rocking her in his arms. "Everything’s gonna be alright..."
It had to be. He would make sure of it...
No matter what.
