I Would Rather Be a Rogue [BL] -
Chapter 80: No Such Thing as Hospital Bills
Chapter 80: No Such Thing as Hospital Bills
"...I still don’t think it’s a good idea," Felix said, as they picked that expensive car seat the shop assistant had presented to them first.
"There’s no need to spend this much," he complained, as they chose a fancy pram.
"I won’t even need that for the next few months," he sighed, as they looked at the strollers.
"I could pay for this myself," he insisted, when the time came to check out the cribs.
"Now that’s all unnecessary!" he exclaimed, as they grabbed baby clothes, nappies, toiletries, bottles, toys, and so on. "I’ve already bought enough!"
Yet, despite his complaints, the shopping went on.
Well, it was hard to truly resist it, when he needed most of those things, urgently, for his daughter who was waiting in the hospital. Although Felix didn’t like the idea of being indebted to Fen - Fen was Kade’s friend, after all. Even if he didn’t want anything from Felix PERSONALLY, it was easy to tell whose side he was on - said debt was a problem for the FUTURE, while Felix needed baby things NOW. And in the end, today’s problems always seemed more pressing than any horrors that the future might bring...
But even as Felix let himself be roped into picking things for Vivi, he remained only a reluctant participant, the threat of potential future consequences from Kade, Fen and the Bloodmoon Pack still weighted heavily on his mind...
"...I really don’t think you should buy them for me," he sighed heavily, gathering whatever remained of his willpower in his final attempt to resist.
Fen, however, only chuckled in response. "Too late, I’ve paid for it already!"
Felix eyed the pram, the stroller, and all the boxes the Alphas dragged along with them as they left the shop, as well as the car seat in his hands. They had bought and left with it, yes, but... "You could still just take it to your pack with you," he pointed out. "There wouldn’t be any loss for you."
Everything was still perfectly new, after all. As long as Felix refused to accept it and use it...
"We already have more than enough baby things for all our pups!" Fen protested.
Well of course they did. They were from the damned Bloodmoon Pack. They could afford to wear fancy suits every day, throw away money on rogue Omegas that refused their advances, and who knows what else! Even if they were the heir and someone with influential parents, no pack would allow for young Alphas to waste their money if all the pups weren’t well taken care of. The werewolf packs thrived on community, taking care of each other.
But it didn’t matter. "You can just keep it as spares, surely you will need it sooner or later!" Felix pointed out. Those were baby things, they weren’t like smartphones, which would be outdated in just a few years. And the Bloodmoon Pack was a supreme, they had a lot of members, and plenty of pups being born every year. It wouldn’t be long before new cribs and prams were needed!
Fen only smiled in response. "But you need it now, don’t you?"
"Well... That’s..."
That was true. Felix did need it. And if he were to pay for it himself, right now, he didn’t know if his wallet could endure it... He had savings, yes, sure, but with his leave, his future work schedule, which was likely to be less busy, as he wouldn’t be able to take too many hours, since he needed to take care of his pup, and then the hospital bills and potential future problems he had to keep in mind...
Honestly, he was getting tired of arguing. He was already exhausted enough with all of his worries, and with the two Alphas overwhelming him with the gifts and favors they tried to push onto him, how could he not get worn out?
"Look. I appreciate your help, but... Why are you doing it, if there’s truly nothing you want from me?" he asked, rubbing his aching temples. "You help me because of Young Master Kade, right? Because you think I will be his mate in the future."
"Well..." Fen exchanged glances with Kade. Felix was not wrong... But they agreed not to mention the mate bond. Because of the promise Kade had made to the Omega... as well as everything they had heard back at the Moonhill Pack. When it came to Felix, it simply wouldn’t be a good approach. But they didn’t have any other argument prepared either...
Not that it would change anything if they did, because Felix already knew their intentions.
"I understand where you’re coming from, but I won’t be. We might be fated mates, but once we break our-"
"I get it, I get it, you don’t need to explain," Fen quickly interrupted, seeing as Kade’s face turned darker at the Omega’s words. "But, if I get nothing out of helping you, that’s my problem. If you feel bad about it, you can just pay me back for it once you’re better off financially... It’s not a big deal for me, and I’m just an outsider in all of it, so I won’t give you any trouble."
"...But I have no idea when I will be able to pay you back. I don’t earn that much to begin with, and now with the pup to take care of, and the hospital bills..."
Fen and Kade exchanged glances once again.
"What hospital bills?" Fen lifted his brows.
"Hmm?" Felix furrowed his brows, confused. Wasn’t that obvious? "For my stay in the hospital this time..."
"There’s no such thing as hospital bills," Fen shook his head. But the corner of his mouth twitched suspiciously.
"...What do you mean there’s no such thing as hospital bills? I don’t even have any insurance, so I have to cover all the costs myself..."
Unless...
Fen continued to shake his head. "I don’t know where you have heard such a thing, but there’s nothing you have to pay for. Just ask the hospital staff, if you don’t believe me!"
Felix just stared at the two Alphas blankly. Did they take him for an idiot or something? He might have spent most of his life in the pack, but he wasn’t THAT detached from reality of the outside world!
