I Would Rather Be a Rogue [BL]
Chapter 67 - 35th Week

Chapter 67: 35th Week

After spending more than he expected on baby things, Felix decided to at least try to be more frugal first before purchasing a new crib or a pram. He asked around everyone he knew...

And a few days later, in the evening, his phone rang.

"Hey, I have good news for you!" Eden spoke cheerfully on the other end of the line. "One of my friends said they still have all of their baby stuff, and can sell it to you if you want! There’s a crib, a pram, a stroller, and also some other stuff you might need!"

"Really? That’s great, thanks a lot! How much would that be?"

"Ah, I didn’t ask. But we can go tomorrow after work to check it out if you want?"

"Mn, alright," Felix agreed. He had to see what state it all was in before he decided anyway, so he could just ask then, who knows, maybe he would even be able to negotiate? "Thanks a lot."

"Yeah, no problem! See you tomorrow!"

"Mn, see you!" Felix ended the call, and let out a soft, relieved sigh. He was already starting to wonder whether it would be possible to borrow it from the Bloodmoon Pack. Which didn’t sound like the best idea.. So he was glad there was no longer any need to even consider that. Unless the things from Eden’s friend weren’t in a good enough state...

But Felix felt optimistic about it. He got up the next day in a good mood, prepared a breakfast for himself and Remi - which the fox sniffed suspiciously for a good few minutes before he dared to touch it, scared of any ’surprises’ he might find inside - and went to work.

It was becoming increasingly hard to walk the distance, but Felix didn’t want to quit just yet. After all, although his Boss agreed to give him maternity leave, it would be unpaid. Thus, it was better to keep on working as long as he could, to save up money for the upcoming weeks. With the chair in the kitchen, he could endure the discomfort...

However.

That day was different. As the morning went on, his stomach slowly started aching. At first, it was just some light tightening that went away after a moment, but over the hours, the cramps became increasingly more frequent and intense... It didn’t hurt too much, it was just uncomfortable, but Felix couldn’t help but feel anxious. Especially when his pup became more agitated, pressing on his pelvic region.

Was he going into labor? He couldn’t, could he? He was still only in his 35th week...

"Is everything alright?"

Felix lifted his head to see the cook, who was looking at him with a concerned expression. "Ah, well..."

"You look very pale, and you’ve been holding your stomach for a while. Are you unwell? Should we take you to the hospital?"

Felix glanced at the clock. There was only an hour left till the end of his shift... And it didn’t hurt that much... But it was his pregnancy, after all, it concerned the life and health of his pup. It was better to go on a false alarm than potentially ignore something serious, no?

So, he nodded his head. "Yes, if you could..."

"Hey, guys!" the cook poked his head out into the restaurant area. "Can anyone take Lex to the hospital? He’s in pain."

After all, although he was the one who offered, he couldn’t actually drive Felix to the hospital himself. He was the only cook on shift at the moment, so if he were gone, how could the restaurant serve the customers?

"I didn’t drive today."

"Yeah, me neither."

"What about Eden?"

"He went with a delivery just now... He should be back in ten minutes."

"Well, that should be fine then? Let’s just call him so that he’d hurry up."

"...Ugh." Back in the kitchen, Felix dragged himself onto his feet with a loud groan. He stumbled onto the staff room to get changed, since he would be leaving work soon. Just as he passed through the door though, he felt something trickle down his leg...

Did his waters break?

At that moment, he heard one of the waitresses back in the restaurant area say, "Eden is saying that there was an accident on the way, so he will be delayed..."

All the blood drained from Felix’s face.

Delayed? But Felix couldn’t afford to wait any longer! The pressure from his baby was only increasing. And since it was pre-term, then there could be complications, and medical attention was very much needed...

He scooped out his phone from his pocket, and tried calling Brielle, but the mermaid didn’t answer. She was at work as well, most likely. But aside from her and Eden, Felix didn’t have any friends. Well, there was also the witch, but what was he going to do, carry Felix on a broom? Not to mention, Felix didn’t have his number. If the witch even had a phone in the first place...

And calling an ambulance? That was too expensive! Felix was already worried enough about how he would ever pay for his hospital bills. Which would be astronomical, since he had no insurance, he had already looked it up before. Because of that, he was originally planning to just give birth at home... But now it no longer seemed like a safe option. In the 35th week, his pup might not be fully developed yet, and might require medical assistance...

Felix’s finger hovered for a moment over one of the entries in his contact list. He didn’t want to use it, since he didn’t want to owe anything or grow dependent, but...

His pup’s safety came first. So, he took a deep breath, and pressed the call button.

"Hello? Young Master told me I could call you if I needed any help. Could you please come to Crossroads and take me to the hospital? I think I might be going into labor..."
