I Would Rather Be a Rogue [BL] -
Chapter 55: Favor? What Favor?
Chapter 55: Favor? What Favor?
Felix couldn’t even talk to anyone about it, to get it off his chest. He didn’t have to whom. There wasn’t just anyone he was close enough with to discuss such... problems.
Eden? No, no matter how kind and helpful the Omega was, Felix still wouldn’t feel comfortable entrusting him with his secrets. Or the witch’s, in this case. And besides, even if he wanted to, Eden got kind of fretful whenever the witch was mentioned, too uneasy to get into any deeper conversation.
Remi? Complaining to Remi about Remi would be fine, under any normal circumstances... But not on this topic! He was a fox, he clearly knew what he was doing! Felix wouldn’t give him the satisfaction of seeing how affected he was by it all.
Kade? Even worse! The Alpha was already wary of Felix’s ’pet’, who knew what he would have done - or at least tried to do - if he knew the whole truth?
As for anyone else? Felix got to know a few people since arriving in Silverfall, at work, and his neighbors, and while they got along just fine, they were not close. Definitely not ’’I want to rant to you about the hot witch that sneaks into my bed every night’ type of close.
So there was no one.
Or so he thought.
Until a few days later, when he was out in town, he bumped into Brielle.
"Hi, long time no see!" the mermaid smiled at him. "How was the new moon? Did you get to... meet the witch?" she asked, lowering her voice.
Felix held back a sigh. "...Yes."
He had met, and he regretted it. The longer he thought about it, the more he thought he would have been better off not knowing how attractive his cuddly ’pet’ was in his human form! At least he still would have been able to sleep peacefully.
"Hoh?" Brielle covered her mouth with the tip of her hand, hiding her smile. Well, maybe not exactly ’hiding’, as the lifted corners of her lips were still in plain view. She was clearly amused by Felix’s expression, as if she had just discovered some new, juicy gossip. "Did his sense of humor wear you down?"
Sense of humor. Yeah. That TOTALLY was the reason behind Felix’s distress.
But something else caught his attention. "His? You know that he is a man, then?"
"Well, yes, of course. But..." Brielle paused, looking around. "It’s perhaps not the best place to talk. Would you like to come over for some tea?"
"Yh, I’d love to... Unfortunately, I don’t have time today." It was already rather late, and he still had to make himself a quick lunch before heading to work.
"No worries. Some other day, then? Maybe tomorrow?"
"Tomorrow... Sounds fine."
"Great! Let’s exchange numbers, to stay in touch in case anything comes up!"
And so they did. To Felix’s surprise. He really didn’t think he’d become friends (or close acquaintances) with the mermaid, especially not after knowing her identity... He rather assumed she would prefer to keep him at a safe distance.
He asked her about it when he came over the next day.
"Hmm... I wasn’t exactly comfortable with it at first," she admitted, sipping on her tea. "But you already know what I am, and it’s not like you will know it more from hanging out with me, now will you? The secret is already out, so befriending you won’t change anything."
"But aren’t you afraid it might attract attention to you? From the Bloodmoon Pack, I mean."
"The Bloodmoon...? Ah, you mean that Alpha that was snooping around before?" Brielle smiled, waving her head dismissively. "No worries, even if they see me, they won’t be able to notice anything. I have a spell on me, you see?"
"...Ah." Now that he thought about it, when he saw Brielle before, in the fish shop, she seemed like just a normal woman, very pretty, but one hundred percent human. Perhaps it was as with the witch’s house - you can only see through the disguise once you know what you’re looking for.
Too bad he only knew about it now. Otherwise, he would have asked for such a disguise himself... Although he doubted it would work on the mate bond.
Well, he could still ask for it to hide himself from perverts such as that rogue Alpha that chased him before, especially once his pup was born and he would look like an ’eligible’ Omega again. Perhaps he should mention it when he visits the witch the next time.
"Um, may I ask you something?" he glanced at Brielle, rubbing the cup in his hands with his fingers. "It was the witch who asked you to help me, right? If you don’t mind, I am curious about this favor... If that’s not too personal, of course."
"Favor? Hah!" the mermaid scoffed, throwing one of her long legs over the other. "I know I’ve called it that way myself... But that was no favor! He just showed up out of nowhere, basically telling me that he was going to bring you to my place, no objections accepted!"
"A-ah?" Startled by the shift in Brielle’s voice, Felix involuntarily flinched, almost spilling the hot tea.
So that’s how it was? He knew from the start that the mermaid wasn’t happy about this... agreement, whatever it was, but now he was surprised she had been so polite with him! Then again, Remi was with him during his first two visits, so if she couldn’t refuse the request, she probably couldn’t afford to take her anger out on Felix, not even remotely.
And, while it wasn’t quite his fault - he was completely unaware of the situation, after all - Felix still couldn’t help but feel bad. "I’m so sorry about that... Is there any way I can compensate you?"
"Ah, no need, no need!" Brielle’s expression eased, and she lifted the corners of his lips in a smile. "You’re good. As for the witch... I have my own ways to get back at him."
Something in her smile, and in the glint in her eyes, made Felix a bit uneasy. Of course, Remi deserved some payback, but...
"You’re not going to do anything to do to hurt him, are you?"
"What, the witch? Why would I?" Brielle quirked her brow. "Even if I were to hate him for that, I’m still dependent on the spells and medicines he makes to stay on land. I would also suffer if something happened to him."
"But we’ve known each other... for quite a while now," she added. "And thanks to that, I know more about him than he would like... Would you like to hear a few facts?"
