I Would Rather Be a Rogue [BL] -
Chapter 215: Overthinking
Chapter 215: Overthinking
To be honest, Felix found talking to Kade pointless at this point.
Not because he was particularly angry at Kade, or anything, not at all. He wasn’t even angry at Kade’s father. At the situation, maybe, but even that wasn’t too intense. He hadn’t had any high expectations from the start, so what was there to be disappointed about?
It was just yet another bump on the road, that’s all. Felix would go through it, assess the damage, and move on.
Either way, the decision had been made. Felix understood that changing Einar’s mind was near impossible - he was doing what was best from the pack’s point of view, and unless Felix had any other additional information that could flip the situation upside down, his assessment would remain the same. And Felix didn’t want to go against that - so discussing it with Kade would make no difference. The only reason would be to talk about his feelings...
But that was not something Felix was used to. He didn’t even know where to start. He’d much rather just mull over it on his own, as wet clay spun and formed underneath his fingers. It helped him relax and organize his thoughts.
He stayed in his workshop for a while, then he went to the dining room to have lunch. Alone. Over the past few days, he always had breakfast with Kade, and dinner... also often with Kade, or sometimes with Cael, but when it came to lunch, he tended to end up in the dining room alone. Well, perhaps not alone, since there were always a lot of pack members there, but with no one to talk to, as most of the Omegas still kept their distance, while it might be inappropriate for random Alphas he was unfamiliar with to approach him...
Which was fine with Felix, anyway, as he was used to it. Although he didn’t appreciate the stares - wherever he went, people were watching him like hawks, carefully observing his every move. Looking for any weaknesses, perhaps? Or simply trying to figure him out - it wasn’t anything he couldn’t endure. Otherwise, he would have just texted Kade or Cael to figure out when they were having their lunches, so that he could eat together with them... But that seemed unnecessary. Not to mention, clinging to two of the pack’s Young Masters all the time would probably make him look weak.
So, he pretended as if he couldn’t see the countless eyeballs pointed at him, ate his meal - his pick of the day being a bowl of potato soup with bacon and cheese, with crispy garlic bread on the side - then brought the empty tray back to the kitchen counter, and left the dining room with Vivi to go for a walk in the garden. This whole time, his expression didn’t falter at all, even when the hushed pieces of gossip reached his ears.
It was quite easy to do with a little practice. However, Felix had to admit that this time it was much harder than usual...
Among the chatter filling the dining room, he had clearly heard things like ’the Moonhill Pack’, ’missing’, or ’the son of the former leader’.
He breathed out a sigh of relief when the cold winter air hit his face, as he escaped the main mansion, hiding in the labyrinth of the garden’s hedges. He thought that he was fine with whatever people gossiped about (as long as they didn’t insult his mother. Or now also Vivi), but hearing his past being discussed here, in the Bloodmoon Pack... To say that it was hard to listen to would be an exaggeration, but it showed Felix that the situation was much more complicated than he had expected.
Perhaps Einar Blackstone was right that they had to contact the Moonhill Pack. The rumors were spreading fast...
But how did they figure it out so fast? The Moonhill Pack wasn’t all that significant, not on the grand scale of things, and not in this area. It was one thing when Kade had figured it out, since as the heir to the pack, he must have paid more attention to everything that was going on in the werewolf world, and Felix’s case was still relatively fresh back then...
Then again, they DID introduce Felix with his full legal name at the party, which must have sped up the process. All it took was one person to recognize the surname ’Embermane’, connect it with his father, who had gained some renown in his prime, and it wouldn’t be hard to connect the dots from there.
Felix stopped in his steps all of a sudden, as a thought struck him.
His full name was revealed because Kade and his parents suggested that it was the best course of action they could take. Had they not known what would happen if they did that? Or was that a trap from the start? Had they tricked Felix into revealing his real surname in order to...
’...No,’ Felix shook his head, chasing the thought away. ’I should stop overthinking everything.’
The Blackstones probably had been aware of what would happen, but it wasn’t a ’trap’ set for Felix or anything. Now that he thought about it, Kade HAD told him that his identity would be discovered sooner or later anyway... And if it could have been avoided, then it would be in their benefits to keep it a secret. Why would Einar want to add negotiations with the Moonhill Pack to his surely already busy schedule? It was clear that he was doing it for Felix’s (or, well, Kade’s) sake.
Felix let out a sigh, and pushed the pram, heading out of the garden. All this thinking and overthinking was giving him a serious headache... Why couldn’t his life be easy and simple for once?
He returned to the mansion, and went straight to his room. Although it was still afternoon, because it was winter, and a cloudy day at that, his room was already turning dark. Not too dark for a werewolf to see, but Felix still flipped on the switch...
And he couldn’t help but pause.
Was he imagining it... Or did his room look a bit different?
