Chapter 187: The Importance of Appearance
Chapter 187: The Importance of Appearance
Felix felt as if he were in a movie, or some TV series. That’s how the shopping trip with Lorelei looked, him constantly going in and out of the changing room, showing off his new fits to the woman who sat on the armchair with a catalogue in her hands and a cup of coffee on the side (or in another shop, a glass of champagne!), while all the shop assistants jumped all around him, pushing more and more clothes and accessories his way, adjusting his outfits and so on...
And at the end of it all, Lorelei only gave a short nod. "We’ll take it all!"
...And, to the next store!
Honestly, Felix found it quite tiring. Perhaps it was because he wasn’t used to it, or maybe because he was the center of the attention, and his head was spinning from all the clothes and chattering, but he couldn’t keep up with all the women (and a few men) clamoring around him. And when he accidentally caught a glimpse of the price tag...
Let’s just say that the numbers on it were enough to make his knees go weak.
The guards followed them all the time. However, as it turned out, they weren’t there just for the security - they needed someone to carry the bags! After all, it’s not like Lorelei and Felix would carry all those countless bags on their own. In fact, after a few stops at different stores, there were so many of them, that even the guards struggled to carry them. Not because of the weight... But, while they were tall and strong werewolves, they still only had two hands! Big hands, yes, but there was still a limit to how many things they could fit in them. Thus, one of the guards had to make a quick trip to the car to drop off some of the shopping bags...
It was already evening by the time Lorelei was finally satisfied with the results, and they could return to the pack house. The amount of clothes they had brought with them was so big, Felix felt as if it would last him for a lifetime... Well, perhaps that was an exaggeration. But the amount of money spent on those clothes was probably large enough for that.
It all left Felix feeling completely drained. While he didn’t want to complain about receiving clothes for free (if they were actually free, and not gifted to him with any ulterior motives) - no, he was grateful for that - that didn’t change the fact that it was just... too much. Too much to take in one day, too overwhelming, too different from anything he was used to. The clothes were all very nice and pretty, but that didn’t help at all with his headache.
Even Vivi was restless, even though she had been well taken care of the whole day. She wasn’t used to being around so many people, though, especially when Lorelei made them stop at baby stores, and everyone’s attention had been focused on picking the clothes for the pup then... After just ten minutes of it, she started throwing a fit. Seems she took after Felix in that aspect.
And they were supposed to go through something similar the next day as well...
Felix let out a quiet sigh, as he leaned back in the car seat, closing his eyes for a minute. That’s not quite how he had imagined his first day in the Bloodmoon Pack would go... Although, to be honest, as tiring as the shopping trip was, it was better than what he had expected. Even if it was just a temporary stay for him, he was glad that he wasn’t being given a cold shoulder, at least by Kade’s parents.
Even if it could cause him trouble later.
"How do you like your new clothes?" Lorelei asked, as the car drove through the busy streets, heading out of the city.
Felix opened his eyes again, plastering a polite smile all over his face. "They’re all great, thank you very much! But... There was truly no need for this..."
"You’re the mother of Kade’s pup. Of course that was necessary," Lorelei cut him off. "I hope that from now on, you will no longer wear those old clothes of yours."
"Oh..."
That’s right, Felix hadn’t thought about it, but given his current position within the Bloodmoon Pack, his humble appearance might reflect poorly on Kade. What if people thought that he was neglecting his pup’s mother?
Well... Back at the Moonhill Pack, Wilder Embermane had been neglecting Sienna Winterfell, the mother of his pack, as well, in every possible way, but no one had ever said a word in her defense, they had just joined in, treating her with absolute disregard, and that was putting it lightly...
But perhaps the Bloodmoon Pack was different in that regard.
"I understand," Felix nodded his head. Since that was the case, it was better to follow up on Lorelei’s advice and adjust. He didn’t want to cause any unnecessary trouble for Kade.
Lorelei smiled with approval. "That’s good then. Now... I know I have said that we will continue shopping tomorrow, but would you mind if we postpone it? I thought about it, and with the upcoming party, you might need more time to familiarize yourself with the pack and prepare. After all, you are new to the pack, and the party is just in a few days..."
"Oh, if you don’t mind, then I would prefer that..." Felix exhaled softly with relief. He didn’t know whether Lorelei was doing it out of consideration for him, because she noticed how uncomfortable he had been the whole day, or because there was truly so much he needed to do to prepare... Or perhaps, she had already achieved whatever purpose she had behind this shopping trip. Either way, Felix was glad that he could stay at ’home’ the next day...
Even though it was probably going to be just as chaotic, if not more.
