I Would Rather Be a Rogue [BL] -
Chapter 186: Not a Good Match
Chapter 186: Not a Good Match
"Oh? And why is that?"
Lorelei didn’t sound angry. More like curious, and perhaps even slightly amused? Still, Felix didn’t dare exhale with relief just yet.
"Ah, what I mean... We’re really not a good match, are we?" he explained hesitantly.
"Is that so?"
"Ye-yes..."
Lorelei still stared at him. Clearly, she expected him to elaborate.
But Felix didn’t. He stared at his lap, pretending to be dumb and dense.
It was fine if Lorelei came to the conclusion that he was useless. At least she might consider him harmless then, and at the same time, not want him to step into the position of Kade’s mate. How could a pack function well with such a meek and useless Luna, especially a massive pack such as the Bloodmoon Pack? A smaller pack might be okay with it, but not a supreme!
Lorelei waited for Felix to explain himself.
She waited...
And waited...
And...
"Why do you think so?" she finally asked. She had no intention of letting Felix get away.
"W-well... I mean... Isn’t it obvious? I’m..." he paused, glancing at the guards sitting at the front, unsure whether he could speak freely in their presence. In the end, though, he decided she could - Lorelei was the one who arranged for them, and she wouldn’t have started this topic if they couldn’t be trusted. Especially mentioning that the heir to their pack had been rejected, that information alone was probably more of a secret than anything Felix might say about his identity - so, he continued, "I’m a rogue Omega who had run away from his pack. Not to mention, I already have a child with someone else... And... I still am connected with a fated mate bond to another Alpha. To be honest, I don’t understand why you’re treating me so well... Rather than accept me, I expected you to try to separate me from Kade."
Of course, there was still a possibility that Lorelei did indeed want to get rid of him. All the kindness that she had shown to him might have been a ruse, meant to lower his guard, and then eliminate him somehow. No matter how insistent Kade was on chasing after him, if Felix passed away tragically, he would have no choice but to give up...
A shudder passed down Felix’s spine, as this possibility suddenly came into his mind. Considering the bloody reputation of the Bloodmoon Pack, it wasn’t all that unbelievable! And if, just if, that was really the case... It wasn’t something he would be able to avoid. At best, he might try to beg Lorelei for mercy, so that instead of eliminating him, she would help him fake his death and then send him far away... Both him and Vivi, since Felix had no intention of leaving his pup behind!
He finally managed to force himself to turn his head and glance at Lorelei. The woman was still staring at him intently with a hint of amusement, completely unaware of the horrid things going on in Felix’s head.
"Do you want to know?" she asked.
"H-huh?" Felix blinked. He had gotten so absorbed in his own thoughts, that for a moment, he didn’t even know what Lorelei was talking about. Know about what, her plans regarding Felix? Or why she was so nice?
Well, regardless of what it was, Felix wanted to know. No, he NEEDED to know, to protect himself and his daughter in this bloodthirsty pack! So, he nodded his head. "Umm, yes..."
Lorelei smiled at him in response. However, although her smile was warm, her words stung a bit. "You’re right, you’re not a good match, all things considered. Your looks are great, and your strength is good as well, from what I’ve heard... But your background leaves a lot to be desired. An Omega son of a leader of a medium-sized pack would still be acceptable... But you’re an illegitimate son. Fated mate of the current leader of your former pack. A runaway, with an illegitimate child. And..." she paused, glancing at Vivi. "Kade didn’t say it, but the father of the pup is Jared Thorne, isn’t it?"
Felix didn’t say anything, just lowered his head.
But that was enough of an answer for Lorelei. She nodded her head thoughtfully. "Well, that’s a good thing, in a way. At least you know who the father was."
It wouldn’t make Felix look good if he didn’t. Werewolves were generally rather prudent - being intimate with a lot of people was frowned upon. The Alphas could still get a pass, depending on the pack, especially if they weren’t mated (although they wouldn’t be praised for it either. Werewolf culture differed from human one), but the Omegas... would face a lot of scorn.
Felix understood what Lorelei meant. But, at the same time, he felt that, all things considered, it would be better if someone else, anyone, even some random man he met on the road, were the father. This way, he wouldn’t have to worry about the paternity test...
But he didn’t say that out loud. Reminding Lorelei that in case Jared comes to claim the child, Kade and the Bloodmoon Pack might face humiliation due to their taking Vivi in as their own, wouldn’t do him any good. He still needed their help, and didn’t want Lorelei to think too much, lest she might come to the conclusion that it was better to throw Felix away after all!
Instead, he just asked in a quiet voice, "Then why?"
Lorelei smiled. "Kade likes you," she said.
Just this.
Nothing more.
Felix looked up at her, puzzled.
"What I have told you a moment ago, this was my analysis of you according to the criteria we would use if we were looking for someone suitable for the position of the heir to the pack’s mate. However, Kade is not just an heir, he is also a person of his own," she explained. "Since he has found someone he likes, there is no need for us to oppose, even if you’re not the best fit for the position."
"Besides, even if the bond is broken now, you two were fated mates initially," she added. "Since the Moon Goddess arranged you two as a match, she must have had a reason."
Felix barely managed to stop himself from groaning in disgust.
The fated mate bond again...
But he didn’t argue with it this time. It was better not to let Lorelei know about his heretical thoughts. Not to mention, the bond worked in his favor this time, for a change... If Lorelei was willing to tolerate him because of it, then in his current circumstances, it was better for Felix to shut his mouth and accept it!
