Chapter 169: Care To Explain?
Chapter 169: Care To Explain?
The front door had been left unlocked, so Felix only had to press on the door handle with his paw, and he could easily get inside. He tossed the softly whimpering fox on the ground, and shifted back to his human form to close the door and lock them. He was, of course, naked the moment he transformed, but he was still too angry and sad at the same time to feel shy about it... Remi didn’t dare to look at him anyway. Or, well, he actually tried to steal a glance, but after receiving a death glare from Felix, he averted his eyes.
Felix, on the other hand, kept his eyes on the fox all the time. Not just because he wanted to make sure that Remi wasn’t watching him while he walked around naked, but primarily to make sure that this deceitful fox wouldn’t try to flee again! He had already gone through the trouble of chasing after him, going so far as to ruin his clothes to shift, so he didn’t want Remi to get away. The only time he took his eyes off the fox was when he went to get some clothes, and even then, he listened intently for any suspicious sound. He just quickly grabbed the clothes, and returned to Remi’s side to get dressed.
"How long are you going to stay in this form?" he asked coldly, taking a seat once he was done changing. "We need to talk."
Remi remained motionless for a moment longer. Eventually though, he shifted back to his human form in a cloud of purple smoke. It’s not how shifting usually worked - no other shifters had such special effects accompanying their transformation - but it must have been a result of some spell. Perhaps it was related to his clothes - as always when Remi transformed, he was already fully dressed, in clothes that would disappear again once he shifted back to his fox form...
He let out a hiss, lightly patting his neck. It was all wet, with blood trickling down from the wounds on his nape, dripping down on the floor. Naturally, Felix had already noticed that Remi was injured earlier, but it looked worse in his human form...
Did he bite too hard? In their animal forms, Felix could easily overpower Remi, so there was no need to go that far... Looking at the warm blood staining Remi’s long hair and sinking into his shirt, Felix couldn’t help but feel a little guilty.
A moment later, though, he shook his head.
Why should he feel bad? Remi had been stealing his blood all this time! Compared to all the blood that this sneaky fox of the witch had taken from him, this little bleeding wasn’t so bad! Although it looked bad, it was in no way a serious wound. With a simple spell or a potion, Remi would have been able to easily patch himself up!
There wasn’t any reason for Felix to care.
"So? Care to explain yourself?" he asked coldly.
To be honest, he didn’t know where he found the courage to confront Remi so openly. He might have overpowered the fox in his wolf form... But Remi was still a witch. If everything that happened between them so far turned out to be fake... And he decided that he was bored of playing nice since his little blood bank was now misbehaving, he could cast a spell on Felix, and there would be nothing the Omega would be able to do about it.
But then again, would staying quiet be any safer? Remi might have only been secretly stealing his blood for now, not taking enough to hurt him... But who knew how long these peaceful days would last? Rather than spend each day anxiously awaiting whatever might happen next, Felix would much rather face the issue straight on. He was tired of always walking on eggshells.
"Still not saying anything?" he clicked his tongue, growing impatient with Remi’s silence. "I already know most of it, so what are you staying quiet for?"
Remi licked his lips nervously, but still didn’t say anything.
Perhaps it was because he didn’t know where to start. Or maybe he was hoping that even if Felix had learned a few things, he could still keep the worst part of it a secret? Felix didn’t know which one it was, but if it was the latter, then he’d be even more annoyed! It already came to this, but Remi still refused to talk?
Annoyed or not, he needed the answers, even if he had to squeeze them out of the fox. So, he started explaining in Remi’s stead, combining all the clues that he had to make a guess, "You’re under a curse."
Remi flinched, but he still didn’t say anything, so Felix continued,
"This curse makes it difficult for you to stay in human form. It... Perhaps it gets painful after a while? Painful enough that sometimes it’s impossible for you to transform."
Remi lowered his head. Without a word, but his silence was enough of a confirmation. Even if Felix’s guess wasn’t entirely accurate, it was close enough to the truth not to require any corrections.
"The strength of the curse depends on the phase of the moon," Felix carried on, the tone of his voice seemingly casual, but his golden eyes sharp, observing Remi carefully, trying to pick up on every minuscule reaction. "It gets stronger the brighter the moon is. During the new moon, it’s the weakest, which makes it comfortable for you to stay in your human form... While during the full moon, it’s so strong you can’t even transform."
"I..." Remi opened his mouth to say something, but then he stopped himself, going silent again.
Felix’s eyes narrowed. "Am I wrong?"
Remi didn’t answer.
Technically speaking, Felix was wrong... Not because his deduction was incorrect, but rather because...
"Ah, right. You did previously shift back to your human form during the full moon, didn’t you?" Felix’s lips twisted into a bitter smile. "You can stay in your human form whenever and however long you want... You just need my blood for that, right?"
Remi bit his lip, avoiding Felix’s gaze. He wanted to deny it... But what was the point? He would have to wipe Felix’s memory clear if he didn’t want the Omega to know...
